I think your video is lovely. I'm a nature girl and I love spending time in the woods. I, also, spent a time as a Substitute teacher. Left because the classrooms today are completely out of control. I spent more time with discipline issues and very little learning time for the children who did behave well. Well enough on that. I did not know that about the Beech tree bark. Very interesting. At 61 my best advice would be: Be you. Don't waste time trying to appease other people. There are so many confused unhappy people in the world today. They thrive on being miserable. Hi there ! From what I could see of that big tree, I think it is a Sugar Maple ? I really like PA.'s rolling terrain, forrest's, rock's, and streams. Thank's to my Dad I am just drawn to rivers, streams, and creeks. He took me Trout fishing when I was old enough to walk behind him. I really enjoy Trout fishing so, I would like it where you are. I can speak to you about Art. I liked creating Art ever since I can remember and while in school K-12. Never dreamed I would ever become a Teacher because I did not care for school much.. I ended up earning a BS in Art and a K-12 Art Education Teaching certificate at UW Madison with a Minor in Environmental Studies. I taught Elementary Art for 33 years in two large urban public school system's and retired. My career was both rewarding, challenging, and intense. I did my best to inspire. At time's there were political road blocks and weak people leadership that made teaching tougher than it should have been. If it is your true passion to Teach Art do it. The student's need you. I am glad I did it, but if I had to do it over in today's Educational scene. I may think twice with a hard pass ? Many of my friends that are still in the trenches Teaching have high levels of stress and some have anxiety from all that worry surrounding their work with student's, families, parents, administration, Art curriculum expectation's, other teachers, work loads, planning time, schedules, ordering, purchasing supplies, evaluation's, behavior management, holding kids accountable, grades, Field Trips, Art shows, displays, contests, newsletters, portfolios, addressing behavior issue's, and the Art programs for the year you will cover. The expectation's seem endless and there is only so much time in your day address it all. Not sure many people would volunteer for that kind of responsibility in todays schools ? Teacher's are very special people and they have to be really tough mentally. That is why you need June, July, and August to recharge your mind battery. I wish you the very best whatever you decide to do with Teaching Art. Your children have a amazing Mother ! Thank you for your content I really can relate with all your outdoor interests. Best wishes to you ! Tc

I don’t normally post comments-this is only the second or third time. You mentioned teaching, and I can relate. I taught for a short time, and it was a lot of fun. Every day, my mission was clear: How do I make this fun? I even started an after-school engineering class where we explored technology. One of my favorite projects was called “The Human Computer.” Every child in the class had a part, a component in the human computer-like the CPU, the hard drive, or the monitor. I’d ask, “What are you, and what is your purpose?” We built a lot of things together, and the experience was filled with fun, exploration, and laughter. The Human Computer even ran software written in BASIC! Also, a piece of advice: don’t let the haters get to you. You never know what’s going on in their lives that might cause them to act out. Don’t let it get in your head-everyone has their struggles at some point. It just seems that people are less mindful of their words when they speak out of emotion rather than constructive thought. Be well, Merry Christmas.

That big tree looks like a silver maple. There is one "key" that could help you narrow down tree ID. Look at the twigs. If they are paired, like a mirror image, opposite each branch, that is called opposite twigs. If your specimen has opposite twigs, it could only be an ash, maple or dogwood. Then you narrow it down from there. I couldnt tell from your video if the big tree has opposite twigs.

Those shagbark hickory are nice it must be a little dry there. Here I only find those on the sunny side of the mountains and on dryer ridges. They are so neat when the bark is really "shaggy" Teaching has to be hard and super stressful. It is the most important job in the world and you/they should have more support. Please don't give up the kids need you! I built a sugar shed once for the guy that owned Greenlife grocery and they tapped the sugar trees several years. Turns out the season is too short here to be profitable but they made a lot of syrup. I watched a neat video on Elm trees that talked about how they used to be very popular for street planting until they were mostly killed out by disease. I almost think Learn Your Land did one also but I'm not sure. Thanks for the mention and for posting!

Oh that sounds like a Great Horned Owl. I have not heard of of those for some years. Mostly I hear the Barred Owl. I recently read a book by someone that works/runs at a bird rescue center in West Virginia (well half of it before I got distracted with a fiction book) It's called - Vulture: The Private Life of an Unloved Bird by Katie Fallon. It's really good (but not as compulsively readable as some novels apparently). Anyway she talks about experiences rehabilitating Turkey Vultures. I guess if you are not a veterinarian and you wanted to work at a rehab center and get paid then you would have to be good at non-profit fund raising. But if you just want to volunteer then I know that is work you can do at rehab centers.

As far as teaching, public school is a compromise! It doesn't serve the smart or help the needy. Maybe you need to keep doing what you're doing until you work a path out for yourself. Maybe it's not just one thing that you need to do. It might be that you need to keep teaching and doing these videos (I enjoy them) and maybe teach a private art class where you could have 5 or 10 students wanting to learn whatever (painting, carving, sculpture ... Whatever you know).

It is amazing how hard it can be to see a still white tail this time of year. Tree in question is almost certainly a maple. The bases of maples have a certain look. Their leaves fall earlier than the beeches and white oaks so I think you’ll find the maple leaves underneath the beech leaves unless they came down in a very strong wind. I appreciate your honesty. Unfortunately, comment sections can be a most unhealthy place. Hopefully you are taking vitamin D drops. There’s Lyme brain which I assume you’re aware of. Some people can actually be having seizures when most people would just think they are “spacey” but that’s quite a rabbit hole that would involve losing your driving rights until managed. There are absence seizures and focal impaired awareness seizures. Not saying you have this at all! but it is a very real condition that can be easily overlooked and isn’t good for the brain long term left untreated. If I didn’t know someone first hand with it I would never have learned about it. Anyhow, hopefully the platform and algorithm won’t be too deleterious and you’ll have some restful days ahead. We all could use some warm water reef snorkeling. ✌️✊

@@PACreekWalkerStephen Buhner’s book “Healing Lyme” is one of the Lyme treatment bibles. I’m sure it’s at your library. Japanese Knotweed root tincture is one many people have found very helpful. For treatment resistant long Lyme the most effective treatment I have heard of is with Antabuse (disulfiram) which is used for treating alcoholism. It just so happens to be very affective at destroying spirochetes. Friend’s daughter had incredible results after 17 years of very debilitating Lyme. Biggest draw back is you can’t be exposed to any alcohol! Even hand sanitizer will make you sick. It’s is a cheap and benign medication with a long track record.

Hi Emily, I was a little younger than you when I decided I needed a change in direction, and decided to further my education. I graduated with a degree in archaeology at age 31. It is never too late! I was, what we call in the UK, a mature student, and many others were twice my age. It may not be the best time for you now, with young children, but they will be pretty much independent before you know it. If not a degree, there must be part time or online courses you could take to improve your prospects in your future career? I think you would make a great archaeologist, you have the eye and the enthusiasm, so are half way there already. See if there’s anything available in your area that might fit in with your other commitments. If you did try archaeology I would gladly be your mentor and proof read your assignments 😇. There are many reasons I watch your videos, one of which is your very dry sense of humour 🤣. Sorry very long comment, they should have a word limit!!!
