It's unfortunate that BDSP decided to stay so close to Diamond/Pearl as Platinum's the best version. BDSP should've been better with: earlier access to many Pokemon, going based off Platinum, actual realized 3D game, reusable TMs, more content, and having post Gen 4 Pokemon. The UnderGround is a great addition though

Even if you find a grass type, you could just choose not to send out Gastrodon. That's what your other pokemon are for. Plus, chances are, it can live through a stab grass knot due to its massive bulk. Water is one of the best types in the game, Ground is also one of the best types in the game. My Team in BDSP (Though I'm not done yet, I'm taking a break from progression to shiny hunt Dialga, I figure I might try Shiny hunting Legendaries in this game) is as follows: Starter: Torterra aka the bulldozer that stomps Sinnoh flatter than a pancake Requisite Water type: Manaphy (I love it), first Mythical I've ever been able to use on a playthrough and I'm not going to deny a Mythical what I've been saying they need for years. Flyer: Crobat, I always used Staraptor in previous Sinnoh playthroughs (I wonder why) but I've recently grown very fond of Crobat and It's become the second strongest member of my team (also it evolved into a Crobat right after the Second Gym!) Heavy Hitter: Rampardos. I know I said Torterra and Crobat were the Strongest, but this stony girl (mine happens to be female) is the second fastest member of my team (after Crobat) and is the one who hits the absolute hardest with that oh so beefy attack stat. Requisite Fire Type: Houndoom. Screw the fact that Infernape is statistically the best fire type, I burned my way through team Galactic with the help of this Loyal Hellhound. Final Member: The Lucario from Iron Island... funny thing is I told myself I wouldn't be using the Riolu this time, I'd hatch it and put it in the box. But I ended up using him because of how quickly he caught up to the rest of my team... It literally just took going through Byron's gym and the Riolu had evolved and was only a few levels below the team average.

Togekiss, while it’s a great Pokémon and all, is just such a pain to get in these games that you’re honestly better off using Staraptor as your Flying type instead. It’s such a pain to have to deal with the stupid Friendship evolution and finding a Shiny Stone to evolve Togetic is also very time consuming. There are also better Fairy type options in this game, such as Gardevoir and Azumarill that are much easier to obtain than Togekiss and in my opinion, more worth it in the end. Heck, I even planned to have Togekiss on my playthrough team for my first playthrough of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but ended up using Staraptor and Gardevoir instead because of how painful it is to obtain a Togekiss in these games. You’re better off using that Shiny Stone on a Roselia and getting Roserade instead and having a powerful Grass type on your team. Plus, even though Budew and Roselia evolve through the same methods as Togepi and Togetic respectively, you can at least find wild Roselia in the Underground so you won’t have to deal with trying to raise friendship with Budew.

I'd argue that Clefable isn't that good compared to Gardevoir and Togekiss. STAB and raw stats are more important than coverage in a playthrough situation every time, and Clefable just falls short on both fronts by having lower stats and only a single typing. If I need to use a move that isn't my current Pokémon's stab, I'll usually just switch to a Pokemon who does have that stab, with coverage really just being there as a last resort in most cases.

Also Drapion could also have been a shout for best Poison type, Togekiss for best Fairy type and Gallade for both psychic and fighting (since you can theoretically have one for the 2nd gym if you grind for a pick up dawn stone)
@DarkShadow4452 жыл бұрын
Okay, here’s my opinion on what the best Pokémon to use for each typing is in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: Normal- Staraptor Flying- Staraptor Fairy- Gardevoir Honorable Mention: Azumarill Psychic- Gardevoir Dark- If the player picks Chimchar, Drapion is the best Dark type option in these games. However, if the player picked one of the other two starters in the Sinnoh region, then Houndoom is the best Dark type. Fighting- Infernape(only for those who picked Chimchar)/ Machamp(if the player is able to trade and didn’t pick Chimchar) Steel- If the player picks either Turtwig or Chimchar, Magnezone is the best Steel type available in these games. If the player picked Piplup however, then Empoleon is the best Steel type. Electric- Magnezone(only if the player didn’t pick Piplup. Otherwise, don’t use an Electric type in these games) Ground- Torterra(only for those who picked Turtwig / Gastrodon(for players who started with Chimchar) / Hippowdon(for those who picked Piplup) / Garchomp(for those who picked either Chimchar or Piplup and want a more powerful and faster Ground type and are willing to wait until after the seventh gym to obtain it) Water- Empoleon(for those who started with Piplup only) / Gyarados(for those who didn’t pick Piplup) Grass- Torterra(only for players who picked Turtwig) / Roserade(only for players who didn’t start with Turtwig) Fire- Infernape(only for those who picked Chimchar) / Houndoom(only for players who started out with Piplup or Turtwig) Poison- Roserade(only for the players who didn’t pick Turtwig) / Drapion Ghost- Gengar Bug- Scizor(only for players who didn’t pick Piplup and have access to trading) / Heracross Rock- Golem(only for those who didn’t pick Turtwig and have access to trading) / Sudowoodo Dragon- Garchomp(only for those who didn’t pick Turtwig and are willing to wait until they have seven gym badges before obtaining it) / Altaria(because it’s the only other option, lol) Ice- Mamoswine(only for those who didn’t pick Turtwig and are willing to grind for Heart Scales to evolve their Piloswine into Mamoswine) / Weavile EDIT: And in case you couldn’t tell, I would not recommend using Torterra in these games, unless it’s like your favorite Starter or something because it’s super slow and get outclassed by other Ground types such as Gastrodon, Hippowdon, and Garchomp(even though you can’t get it until late game) and when it comes to the Grass typing, Roserade is just the best Grass type to use period. I’m not trying to discourage anyone who wants to pick Turtwig. I’m just saying that there are better Grass(for example, Roserade) and Ground options.

other grounds that also outclass torterra would be steelix, quagsire and mamoswine, and as for your stand on electric....yeah....your not wrong....electric is pretty underwhelming in Sinnoh cause i think a lot of trainers use pokemon that either resist electric or are a ground type (in my experience....ground types are used quite often with how much you see stuff like the geodude line, onix, steelix, the hippos, quagsire, whiscash and gastrodon)

Drapion is actually the better Dark Type Pokemon when comparing it and Houndoom for a playthrough simply because of Knock Off. STAB Knock Off is one of the best moves to have in BDSP for the late game. Drapion is also available on its own as a daily binocular Pokemon in the Great Marsh. It's such a good Pokemon from mid to late game. The fact that Drapion trivializes Lucian with Knock Off cannot be overstated. As a Dark Type, making the most of its Dark Type, it's the best for a BDSP playthrough. I think considering the big battles would change the rankings as now the big opponents have Good IVs and EVs, particularly the league. When it comes to Cynthia, odds are you wont out-speed unless its Gastrodon, or Unless youre over-levelled. So Picks like Alakazam which depend on hitting first before theyre killed... suffer, so for the psychic type i would have considered if gardevoir's chance to live over alakazam is significant enough. Or if alakazam has enough of an ability to hit those difficult opponents before being hit itself. This is a rather counter intuitive aspect of BDSP, as glass cannons just dont work, so gameplay styles need to shift to accommodate

Just a heads up for anyone new to pokemon. Half of these pokemon on his list have special ways to evolve them making them a hassle to get to evolve or require an item you won't get till late in your gym runs. Trading and stone evolutions suck. Most stone evolution people stop learning moves once they evolve and you have to use tm or find the move tutor to teach them new moves. Side basic rule for this list have higher attack and speed and you win.

Empoleon and Gyarados are probably better, but Gastrodon is so good! I just finished my first playthrough of BDSP, and out of all my team members, which includes Drapion, Bronzong, Infernape, Luxray, and Staraptor in case you were wondering, the one member that did the most for me during the league was Gastrodon, and it did a lot during other important fights as well. Also I bet it's a better ground type than Torterra. Gastrodon just wall things (especially with Storm Drain), and deals back quite a lot of damage, and teaching it ice beam gives it perfect coverage. And you get it as early as the very popular Buizel! What else do you want?

There’s something I need to get off of my chest. I think Infernape is pretty overrated. The thing is, there’s not much competition for Infernape, sure, but if we look at each Pokémon individually, Infernape does have a few issues. Aside from being a Torchic clone, it also can’t utilize its equally high attacking stats at the same time without making some compromises. It’s Fighting-Type also gives it some extra weaknesses that don’t bother other Fire-Types, and it’s extremely frail, especially after a Close Combat defense drop.

Infernape is the best starter hands down. Both stabs cover against the other starters. It's perfectly capable of one hitting each. Torterra is second because earthquake by evolving is crazy. I've never been a fan of empoleon, it's the best water type but it's not the best steel type.

@@obits3 Bruh, it's not even a competition. Infernape is literally just better, the only mon that gains an advantage is torterra, empoleon GAINS a weakness. And FYI empoleon just straight up loses to torterra 100%. Empoleon isn't bulky enough to survive an infernape STAB close combat without a sash and it doesn't hit hard enough to OHKO it back. No, this was probably the most unbalanced generation starter wise. Torterra needs to survive a STAB flare blitz, which it could if you go for bulk and max out of defenses. But then you need to hope a STAB earthquake will kill.

I think Crobat is the best poison type to me. He's very fast and his stats are not bad. He's very well rounded in his special and physical attack. And he does have good coverage in my opinion. You can teach giga drain which is both a recover and damaging move. It's also good because of it's typing countering fairy and it also bring able to learn steel, bug, flying, and dark moves. It's flying type nulls one of it's weaknesses being ground. So it's a good Pokemon to fight against Bertha. Gardevoir is the best psychic type to me. It gets stab from both psychic and fairy types attacks. I have battled Alakazam before and just OHKO them. They're defense is just bad and it is too risky to gamble on speed and not getting hit. Gardevoir is a tank and hits even harder. If you set up calm mind it's even more scary. I set mine up with calm mind, psychic, moonlight, and shadow ball. Making it a force to be reckoned with to many poison, dark, ghost, and even physic type Pokemon.
@davidingleby73412 жыл бұрын
Think I'll run Gardevoir for Psychic, anyway, just 'cause "outspeed + OHKO" gets boring and Gardevoir can run a nice tank set with draining kiss
@yohannfabros24842 жыл бұрын
Same for me as well, because Gardevoir maybe kinda bit slow but the flexibility on move pool and the Fairy typing makes her best for me. And she didn't require a trade evolution.

About the Houndoom Vs Drapion situation, I am with Houndoom. Both are great Pokemon and adding to your arguments in favor of it, I have my own: it's easier to get the doggo, not only you can find it in the Great Underground relatively early, but even if you get a Houndour, it evolves at level 24 which is much better compared to Skorupi that is not a Dark type yet and evolves at level 40
@DarkShadow4452 жыл бұрын
Well, Houndoom is really only a viable Dark type option if the player didn’t pick Chimchar, since there’s pretty much no reason why you would use both. Drapion, while it does evolve from its pre-evolution kind of late, is worth the wait in my opinion. I mean, you’re getting a Pokémon that has access to the Sniper ability, which boosts the chances of a critical hit, which can be pretty helpful sometimes. Plus, it just has a much better typing in my opinion. Only having to deal with one weakness just increases its viability for me. In my opinion, I would only recommend using Houndoom as your main Dark type only if you didn’t pick Chimchar. Otherwise it’d be redundant and Drapion is the only other viable alternative that can do just as good(if not better) on your team as a Poison/Dark type.

Best Water Type is Azumarill with Huge Power but Empoleon are good but need better moves for Defiant attack moves. And a rather use Azumarill post game then Empoleon. The other ones you pick I agree with almost but Hounddoom is not very good dark pokemon or fire pokemon if you compare him to other ones in the game. But if you don't pick infernape? it can be good one I rather pick Weavile as dark he is faster 125 and have more power 120 then Hounddoom 110 and spe 95 but sure you get Hounddoom pretty early and Weavile later. And Weavile can even give the mighty Garchomp a match. But this game is not hard anyways to clear so you can almost pick anyone exept Unown haha.
