We will never see the likes of Don Rickles again. The greatest comedian of all time. Tom Snyder was always such a gentleman to his guests. Such a class act.

Agree on both points. I've seen hundreds of interviews with Rickles, and Snyder's are among the very best. Truly miss them both.

I played trumpet for him at a show in the Poconos about 15 years ago at Cove Haven resort. He is truly a humble and sincere man. A truly kind and warmhearted human being.

One aspect of this show is that you can hear the crew cracking up in the background I love that.

If only we had some class guys like Tom Snyder, Television would be great again. He would dominate the ratings and eliminate the late night trash we have today.
@edub99302 жыл бұрын
He would Absolutely decimate& cut down to pieces whoever was in front of him or on his periphery. I love it. I've watched other comedians attempt his style of humor & absolutely fail & just come off as crude & meanspirited. Mr. Rickles knew exactly how far to take it & when to back off & move on to his next victim. Absolutely brilliant & a legend😀 Bravo Mr. Rickles Bravo 👏

As I sit here binge-watching Don, I cant help thinking: IF ONLY Scorsese had cast him in *Goodfellas* and given him the part where Pesci is telling the _joke_ around the table in the club, and Ray Liotta says " _Ahhh ... I love the way you tell a story, youre a funny guy_ ... " and Pesci gets serious + feels insulted, firing back with " _Funny HOW ? Like a CLOWN ? HOW am I funny to you ?_ " and goes off on a verbal tirade against Liotta, would have been an epic part for Don to play. Scorsese could have easily written up a character role for him to play in that film, instead of the small role that he was cast in for *Casino* ( _in which he really didnt have much to say in terms of lines_ ) ; Scorsese should have given Don at least a 15 minute _speaking_ part within the film. I kept imagining the same while watching *The Irishman* a few days ago --- IF Rickles were still alive, he should have been cast in it as well, as an old mobster. He would have been great in it I believe. GAD I miss this man so much. He and George Carlin have always been my two favorite comics. They could make me keel over in laughter even at a FUNERAL!!! #LEGENDS 🙋 P.S: I got to see Don *live* at Carnegie Hall ( _after this interview of the same year_ ); my dad took me to see him, it was my "birthday gift" from him. We laughed till we cried! One of the most endearing memories of my dad who passed away just a few months later on Fathers Day. Rest In eternal Love to all 3 of my favorite men. 💝

Yea IF ONLY the most memorable scene of any gangster film would have been different. Joe Pesci did that scene 100% perfectly.
@LeenaStark4 жыл бұрын
@@aaronturner4597 Of course, and we cannot imagine it being any other way, nor being played by anyone else other than *Joe Pesci* ( _I love him in anything he plays!_ ); I was simply "thinking out loud" and _imagining_ *Don* ( _the GOD of comedy_ ) being cast in that particular scene as a "character" somehow. ( ? ) I'm also kinda sad that he wasnt given enough "speaking parts" in *Casino* ---cause I think he would have made certain scenes much funnier. Regardless though, I still miss this LEGEND, and he was definitely the LAST of the greats, and there will never be another one like him. 😔

This is normal and fun conversation folks. If only Rickles and George Carlin were around today to comment on what is taking place. I could only imagine their words… RIP. 🙏

I remember watching Tom Snyder and his show at night. What a great guy and a great show. Great entertainment and TV back in the '60s,'70s, '80s. And a few gems like this in the 90s. It's mostly crap now.

compare Tom to Letterman or Johnny Carson with whom DR has great rapport. Tom is too much a stick in the mud to get the humor bar up but his and all crews are up to par always cracking up.

21:10- "...you just can't sit here in a chair and 'hahahahahaha,' y'know, like a robot." That is probably my biggest criticism of Fallon, who seems like a good guy but desperately needs to work on his interview skills. He laughs far too often for it to be genuine.
@zoso19805 жыл бұрын
Fallon's main thoughts while he hosts, 'Am I doing what Lorne wants?' or 'Are the suits happy?' Fallon is not about interviewing or about conversation. He's about being product pusher and being as mass appealing as possible. You can turn your brain off to Fallon. Tom engages you and makes WANT to stay. The downside? The business types have determined that Fallon is the future because being as palatable and mainstream equals the most advertising and revenue. Tom and others in his tradition require engagement and intelligence. Fallon just like Leno and James Corden, just want casuals and eyeballs and play to superficial pop culture for mass appeal. Fallon, Leno and Corden aren't great, they are guys hocking for the mainstream and casual audience and run off focus groups and demographic data almost completely. Types like Tom and Johnny Carson engage you and THEY drive the whole. There is talent, art and host vision drives it. Conan did it too with his stint on The Tonight Show and was fired for it. NBC wanted a corporate host (mainstream appealing = more audience = suit puppet host). Conan balked and wanted to do it his way and that was one of the reasons he was fired. Cheers.

Don Rickles’ energy is the source of his charm-his endless creative improvisational verbal energy and wit. Robin Williams is the closest approximation. You never know what they’ll say next. And they don’t either. Acrobats at the end of a tether, and on a knife-edge.

Groucho just loved attention on himself. At times a real jerk. Watch him on Dick Cavett with Truman Capote. Truman they say gives him the finger. And yeah, I did not think he was always that funny. Full of himself.
