After this interview, I'm left with this impression: Don Rickles is phenomenally funny; that's self evident. But, beyond that, he seems to be a fine and genuine person.

My Father passed away, I was in tears. That night, Don Rickles actually spoke about death of a friend. He stated I will miss my best friend forever. Don with fake crying saying he owed me so much money too! I met Don told him about my Dad passing and his jokes made me feel better. He asked, I am very sad to hear this. By the way! Did he owe you money too? I laughed! He will truly be missed in the world.

This was cool... A very rare chance to hear Rickles actually speak and not cracking jokes the entire time. Usually you couldn't get two serious sentences out of the man because he was always on. He did everything he wanted to do, always did things his own way no matter what anyone else said, and had one hell of a life by the time he died at 90. Many of us will only have a small fraction of the type of experiences this man had. Lucky guy. And funny as hell.

Im 57 and an only child with no family now and I can remember watching Don far back as I can remember, even on the old Andy Griffith show in the early 60's. When one of the old guard like this goes I swear I feel emotional like ive lost a dear friend or family member. So many memories of him on the Dean Martin Roasts, numerous appearances on so many shows, and on Johnny Carson including the famous time he subbed for Johnny one night and broke his cherished cigarette box-lol Carson came back the next nite, asked if Rickles had done it and acting mad took the whole Camera crew, completely left his own studio and walked in on filming of Dons show 'CPO Sharkey" and started in on him - Don dropped to his knees at Johhnys feet calling Carson Mr. NBC begging him for mercy-LOL I swear I teared up when I heard about Dons passing, so many laughs for so many decades and such a genuinely nice guy in real life. He was part of my lifetime TV family so to speak and I deeply mourn his passing, one less icon among us - God Bless you Don Rickles, RIP.

I totally agree . I'm probably very liberal but when it comes to humor I say anything goes, if it's funny , it's funny. Different groups have different characteristics what's wrong with pointing that out ? Assuming you're not doing it in a mean way. The world will be very boring if we pretend we are all the same , we're not.

I thought he did a tremendous job. Do you realize how much ground he covered in this interview? They talked about many, many facets of Don's life. More than any other interview I've found with the exception of maybe Tom Snyder. I'm a HUGE Rickles fan, but let's be honest, when a host let Don go they were lucky to cover two or three questions. Charlie let him answer each question, but kept it moving and didn't let him keep ad-libbing off the same question. From an entertainment perspective his appearances in Carson and Letterman were much better, but as far as candid interviews go this one is near the top.

Charlie Rose, sorry to say destroyed this interview. He's like he is coked up or something. Non stop interruptions and talking over Rickles. Every single answer was interrupted. Every single one. He seemed to just want to hear his own voice and not the person he was interviewing. Rickles obviously noticed and I believe gave him a little dig with the line "Like you, you're a great interviewer Charlie, you know when to jump in" :)
