Bob Costas is a great interviewer, and did his homework. This was probably the best straight Q&A Don ever did, without going full-time shtick, this is the only time I’ve heard him really open up and provide serious answers.

Don even complimented him on doing his homework. From an amazing talent like Rickles, that is quite a compliment indeed.

Bob handled himself really well here with Don and it's obvious that Don liked him a lot. A rare case to see Don's more serious and "real" side.

Bob Costas( Later was the name of the show I think) show was great, he is a well read person, was doing his homework for whatever guest he had. I think that’s one of the reason why his guests would open up to him, he would ask questions that showed that he studied and researched . A great source for these older videos is Gilbert Godfrey’ s podcast, it’s about old Hollywood. Bob Costas was one of his guests and that’s how I found out about this video.

Bob Costas...A great interviewer, whether it's Tom Lasorda at The World Series, Paul McCartney, or Don Rickles in this video? The man does his homework and makes the person that's being interviewed so comfortably, therefore providing them to set the stage to open up about a story or two of the past like he was here. Young journalists? Pay attention to what Bob does with his craft. He is one of a kind no matter what the genre.
