Go play D2 or NAIA college in the states and learn consistency and building points. You have the tools needed to play, just need to work the points and your game plan. The first set is a good representation of why you need to play college tennis. You can’t afford to wait till later in the matches to start clicking. It’s got to be from ball one. College tennis will teach you how to be competitive from ball one.

My thoughts exactly, Kerue. Felix didn't have a gameplan and it showed. A lot of UE due to trying to cut the points short, that structurely didn't make sense. Perhaps nerves played into it. It will be interesting to see what adjustments he'll make next time and if they'll be effective, or if your overall experience will just be too much. Like button; SMASHED!

Based on the almost 2 pt difference on the UTR, you would expect the 13 to easily dispatch the 11. What really stood out was Karue's precision on serve and his ball placement and depth, which always had Felix on the run. Those quality balls made it very tough for Felix to get any traction. Tight as a nun in the first.

The mental aspect is so important in every sport, but in Tennis even more. You are alone on the court. In team sport's, your teammates can help you. Keep calm and not showing emotions. It's even harder when you get tired. So much respect for every pro.

Amazing advice!!! Makes total sense to me since I’ve been watching Felix for couple years I can totally see how he can get reactive instead of proactive in most of his matches. Perhaps, he can develop a clear weapon or tactic that gives him identity. Making your opponent uncomfortable is the most important aspect of winning in tennis and applies to every level. So hopefully Felix and find that additional tool for himself that could be a good low BH slice or drop shot or anything that will break the basic pattern against most opponents

If you watch in slomo, its absolutely sick how compact Karue's strokes are, you can really see him hitting out and front, getting the raquet back early and driving with rotation so nicely. I wish my strokes looked like that lmao.

Karue won the first 9 points without hitting a winner I think, or maybe just a couple. He is right, Felix looked to anxious to hit bailout winners and therefore made way too many mistakes. Great advice from Karue at the end. Good luck Felix!

Karue, your strokes are cleaner than 90% of the top level pros. So smooth. Some of the top ranked guys are obviously effective, by definition, but their strokes look like hell. Felix also has great strokes.

Thanks for sharing this and your advice to Felix is very thoughtful. From a technique perspective it also looked to me that too many of his groundstrokes were landing mid court, and you were getting more consistent depth which pressurised him.

This was a real privilege to watch Karue. Thanks so much for recording/editing and posting. I noticed early on that your style was very smooth like a scalpel where I see Felix's style as a sledgehammer. I haven't quite figured out which style to follow in my own game yet because both are very appealing to me, but if I had to choose I would take your advice about the calm and smooth route. Excellent play from both you guys! I will be studying this match in slowmo!!!

You have more pace, but you hit the point! Felix must choose how to play and develop his game in that direction. In his video I often see him running around trying catching balls and I thougt he is almost a pusher, but instead of it he has a messy game...many wasted points and lack of consistency. I think he has not enough pace to try an agressive style at atp level, perhaps he can develop a real solid gameplay based on his physicality.

This practice match is a good example of how important the 1st serve percentage and 1st serve points won. I wasnt counting but im pretty sure Karue’s 1st serve in and 1st serve won are > 85%

Completely agree! I don't really see the mental toughness yet from Felix. The first set was terrible, but that's probably due to nerves and expectations to make a good show. Some of those shots trying to hit a winner from the serve were questionable. The other thing that stood out was the juxtaposition of you being so relaxed and precise vs running around like a madman to just get the ball back in neutral, not a lot of point construction. I'm always rooting for Felix to get better, but maybe now it's the time to invest on a mental coach as well.

Unrelated comment: Tried out the 2021 Vcore 95 and got to say wow. I played with a PS 95 Classic for decades and the Vcore 95 feels like a great modern replacement. I have it strung with SG right now, and even like that it has loads of control and is super comfortable. Has way more spin that I would have thought.

There are some people who feel you need to be a prodigy at a young age like Alcaraz or Coco Gauff. Then there are other players like Chris Eubanks who just had a major break through at 27. I think your advice is great. I mean you don't have to be a crazy ball striker like Isner to be on the tour. There are guys like Adrian Mannarino who just have crazy angles and an unorthodox play style that get them wins. I like the idea that you need to find your identity on court and how you play your best. I hope Felix makes some strides and enjoys the process. It's cool that he's doing youtube as well as just being a player so that he can keep the opportunities open.

Just from watching this Match I can see the difference. Th guy in white or baige has better placement and its less forced whilst the guy in black is good also, but he seems to force his shots and has less precision in his game. Overall guy in baige clothing is the better player. His message at the end is spot on.

Hi Karue, what are your thoughts on Chris Eubanks big breakthrough? He is such a great guy and deserves it so much imo. And I remember you beating him. How is that for you... Knowing your ceiling might have been up there. Is that hard to accept? I mean I know there are so many factors that weigh in if you make it in top 100 but your tennis level is definitely up there. Must feel good on the one hand, but might be hard on the other. I do think you found your purpose in coaching. As well on the pro level with Marcos, as for recreational players all over the world with this platform. Keep up the great work! 🙏🏼

Eubanks ceiling was probably higher, not only he was only 19 in that match but Karue was 22 (3 years older) and we all know Eubanks is a tall guy with lots of weapons (serve, strokes), although Sell was more consistent and won that time. But what happened is that Eubanks kept believing in him, so like 5;6 years later it payed off. Sell probably didnt have that much time.

100% agree with the analysis. Felix at his best has almost beaten strong 13 UTRs and pushed Popryin, but then will lose to lower ranked players often. He's got the serve and forehand of a really top player, but the point construction isn't there.

Hello, I was very exited to see that match ! the recap at the end is very instructive. KARUE plays has an intelligent et constructive game. But I am surprised that a player like FELIX has no plan or strategy when the rally goes more that 3 or 4 shots. I understand that in tennis there are two kind of players : patient players and agressives players. The patient player try to force the opponent to make a mistake because they have in mind the aggressive play of the opponent. But what the aggressive player can do in this case ? to return few more balls to disturb the strategy of the patient player ? Did Felix play with more consistency in the second set ?

I've seen him play some intense matches on his channel hitting the cover off the ball. There were long rallies against good players. But against Karue he seemed to be having a lot of trouble and it almost seemed like Karue was taking it easy on him. So what about Karue's play makes it so difficult for him? Just a different/higher quality ball he's receiving that he has trouble handling it? Because to the casual observer it seems like the balls were similar to what he experienced in previous matches on his channel.

In the first game, Karue hit some really good deep and well-placed returns. Felix tried to go for the one-two punch, but the returns were too good to attack. For someone like Felix who relies on his serves to win points, he hasn't played many guys who can challenge his service games right off the bat. Also from watching Felix's commentary on his game, he always that he has to be more aggressive if he's not playing well, but I think against Karue he has to be more patient.

I think a couple of things: nerves and being tight at first; deep and well placed and paced balls from Karue, and so many unforced errors from Felix in not even returning serve, or blocking it back. Going for backhand slice for some reason and just Karue is a better player. His serve and volley and court placement being effortless. He just got outplayed basically in the first set.

Now, what everyone wants to know (besides where we can get the hat): How does one avoid the trap of playing reactive tennis? How can we insure that we have a plan to make our opponent "feel us" throughout the match, and adjust that pressure (tactical change) as needed? I'll hang up and listen.

Your comments are similar to how I felt when I watched this match. Especially in the first set where he never made you feel uncomfortable. You were dictating play in all of the points. In the second set, he served better and it allowed him to be more assertive and get to a tie break and beat you. I think you would have beaten him in a theoretical third set as I think you would put more pressure on his serve with you return game. I agree, from this match, it's difficult to say what his style and game is. There are a lot of ATP players with his abilities. So I don't how he's gonna move up the rankings.
