Since I have all these demos with me I figured why not compare the VCORE 98 and the new Extreme Tour when it comes to generating topspin. @@Karue-Sell I have a question that is bothering me since some days ago. I use the 2017 Pure Strike 18x20. I love that stick, but wanted to increase the weight and swigweight a bit. Would you lead at 3 and 9 o clock? How much? I've never customized a racket before but wanted to give it a try. My idea is to increase SW to 335 or somewhat close (to emulate specs from a racket i loved from the past). If you could review the new Pure Strike comparing it with other rackets with similar specs would be awesome. PS; Definitely suscribed :D

Spin or no spin, you just nailed it with the Yonex. Wish we had access to ball speed. Betcha those balls were 5-8mph faster and you still had plenty of topspin but access to the baseline. No doubt the head gave you more spin. That launch angle was at least 2-3ft higher.

Enjoying your reviews! The Yonex sounds a lot better - deeper and the head sounds very tinny. I would have to add a dampener to the head just to stop that sound. Would be interesting to see you do this on a PlaySight court to get the numbers to compare with your thoughts on the spin, pace etc. Just watching the head had more loop but were dropping short. The Yonex bit flatter but deeper. I would take consistent depth over safer net clearance that lands shorter. Curious to know what you play with when you are trying to play your best i.e. what racquet and customizations do you have? Perhaps you can do a vid on that. Thanks

It is so good to see the opinions of a high level player on youtube! I am subscribed! What are your opinions on using a smaller grip size to add spin as an amateur player? Would it encourage bad habits of getting too wristy through the shot, I have heard it can result in RSI injuries occurring more often, such as tennis elbow or wrist tendinitis.

I'm not sure about it causing injuries, would have to look it up. But my advice is just using the grip size that feels comfortable to you and not go by "would it add more topspin". Just use a grip size that everytime you palm the grip you feel like your grip (fh, bh, serve) is in the position you like and feel comfortable.

I hope it is ok if I chime in ... some peope choose smaller grip sizes for enhanced feel and switching grips more swiftly. That's totally fine because those guys don't have the tendency to choke the grip. Some less advanced players tend to grab the grip forcefully in the heat of the battle and THAT'S WAY EASIER with a smaller grip size. In this case small grips become a problem. In between shots, grab the racket like I held the mouse I saved from my cat this week and firmly at point of contact. After the rally take the racket in your non-dominant hand and shake out your arm occasionally for staying loose. Then smaller grips won't cause you any harm.

Great content! Much of what you say really strikes a positive and familiar chord as it relates to my tennis. Now will use your link to buy thru TW. I have played with Vcore 98 for 3 years and really enjoying the newest version the most. However, I tend to tinker and tried out the new Ezone 98 & Head Extreme Tour recently. BOTH those rackets have same static weight, similar balance points and similar flex. However, they also both seem more maneuverable and as a result really helped me get more balls in play. I do feel like I have to swing out a bit more to get similar power. I am now experiencing some shoulder pain. On spec the rackets seem just as arm friendly? Is it b/c the demo grips were a tad small and I was holding too tightly? It it b/c I am swinging too hard and straining arm as a result? Best analogy is if I throw a heavy baseball/football/soccer ball I have no discomfort, but sometimes have thrown a lighter weight ball such as Nerf, waffle-ball, foam ball and arm is sore afterwards? This is odd because the swing weights, static weight, flex and balance are not that different, but perhaps the polarity of the rackets makes then swing faster? I want to keep playing with the Extreme Tour but certainly don't want to be sidelined IF that is the root of arm strain. I know you like the NEW VCORE, but wonder and appreciate your thoughts! Yonex sounds better, has a nice compact pop sound. It also generates good spin. Seems more versatile because sometimes you wanna plow through some shots to end the rally sooner and with the Yonex it looks like it does that better. VCore isn’t as “toppy” as the Extreme, but it generates good spin and good plow through for flat shots. I say VCore wins. Checks more marks. Not one dimensional

Dude you had way more depth with vcore and despite the more ball rotation from extreme your ball from vcore felt heavier to me.......I would definitely choose vcore for tournament match plays. Lots of people comment that extreme tour also after adding lead it’s still low powered and more control oriented. Also i read comments that it lacks power on serves too. Vcore 98 has an excellent mix of power and control. It combines vcore pro with ezone. The only problem of vcore is lack of feel/ball connection........ but it’s pretty rock steady on stock form!! What string do you use in order to improve its lack of feel??

Well that is why I said in the video that for MY game the VCORE would be the better option. But when it comes purely generating topspin, the extreme was easier. I agree that the VCORE lacks some ball connection. I used the string I always use, head lynx tour

I also think you can play around with the string tension. I have the prev gen 360extreme Mp and I went down to tension to 48 as an experiment and it became a rocket launcher. Currently playing at 54lbs and it plays well. I guess dropping tension by 2lbs odd might help with more depth. I do play with extreme spin though so the head works well for my game :). Very similar to pure aero which is my racket of choice but more arm friendly.

All of Head's new "Tour" models, actually starting with the previous Graphene Touch line, are made to customize. If you hit with these frames without doing so, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. I have three of the Graphene Touch Tour Prestige. All of them were the same weight and balance. I put silicone in the handle and just 2 grams of lead at 12o'clock on each of them. The strung weight without the mods was 325 grams. Afterward, the racquets were 343 grams with a SW of 330. They are like butter and have plenty of plow through. Do yourself a favor and customize if you get the Head Extreme Tour 360+.

Friends, I have tried different strings, tensions and everything on the head 360+ extreme tour. But something happens, it is difficult for me to accelerate the ball on the right side, since they are supposedly similar, I feel that when I played with Yonex vcore 98 I had a greater ability to accelerate the ball. I assume this is due to the low swingweight of the extreme. On the other hand, my acceleration on the right is based on a lot of wrist with a heavier grip, I changed the factory grip for a lighter one, from 305 grams it started to weigh 301. To lower the HL points and make it a racket with greater head acceleration, would it be an option to add 5.6 grams to the head of the racket? I listen to your advice. I want this racket to be like the yonex vcore of 2018. I would appreciate your help.

Head seemed to give you a higher launch angle with the balls still falling in while having a fuller swing. Seem like a better racket for killing short balls etc. That being said , you seems to also be hitting a heavier/faster ball with the Yonex.

Yep the had is killer for that. If you have time to set up your feet and go after the ball it is amazing. But yes the Yonex was a bit better for my game. Although I think a custom version of the Head Extreme Tour would be amazing

Yes it game me more lift but less plow through, bit of a trade off. They both have the same stiffness rating at 65 but the Extreme provided a bit more feedback at contact. VCORE was a bit more muted

I play with the 2020 prestige mp with a natural gut poly set up. I added 10 grams of tungsten to the handle. I hit with the extreme tour and didn't care for it at first (for me) I took it and added 14 grams to the handle and it made a huge difference.

Unfortunately, if you can't keep the launch angle and the velocity comparable between the two rackets, it can be difficult to see which one generates more spin. A ball with a higher velocity but with more spin can actually have a lower trajectory than a ball with higher spin but slower trajectory. Because you reported the VCore 98 to have more plow through, it likely generated more velocity than the Head Extreme Tour. Also, a racket with a higher launch angle will seem to have more topspin than a racket with a lower launch angle even though both rackets generate the same amount of spin. Sometime you can make a rough guess on relative topspin rotations by seeing how the ball bounces when it reaches the other side of the court. But, again, the bounce height is affected by velocity and launch angle.
