Modern cement was created in the UK using limestone from Portland, in Dorset - hence the name 'Portland Cement'.

A few weeks back Zanegler had mentioned convoys of cement mixers delivering concrete to the first constructed section. While it is not obvious looking at the small section we can see in, there is probably a LOT of concrete inside there busy curing as we talk about it!

This is common. They will pour the floor last once they no longer need construction vehicles inside. It may already be done in some sections that we can not see. Critical footings are likely already poured inside in advance. While the concrete dries to full hardness, all the electrical, lighting and cooling gets done along with any internal walls where offices are etc. Heavy machines are the very last thing to be installed. Basically construction doesn't stop because the floor isn't fully hardened.

Portland, Maine was named after Portland in England. Portland, Oregon was named after Portland Maine. It is documented that Portland, Oregon was named in a coin toss. It was to be named after either Boston, Massachusetts or Portland, Maine. Portland, Oregon it became. The "Portland Penney" used in the coin toss is on display at the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, Oregon.

Z has mentioned that a lot of concrete has been poured, it appears that first section does have a slab. This occurred after the roof was mostly done. Speculation is that the floor will be poured east to west as the adjoining sections get roof steel panels at least. So section A the one with the walls installed and we cannot see inside looks to have the slab in for about a week. What hasn't been seen yet are the footings for the 7th section. That is the section that will have a two story portion, presumably for offices. This is very much mimicking Starbase construction, where sections were fitted out and even put into production as construction moved along. I will be most interested in the west side section that contain some truly massive footings and steel columns.

I’ve been a lot of these buildings in the reason they haven’t poured concrete yet is because of all the underground utilities. They have to go in prior and there’s gonna be a lot of plug-ins and electrical lines running through the ground first. Also, the cold temperature, You have to seal off all the openings and warm-up big sections for your concrete pour.
@machoopichoo2Күн бұрын
Correct, it's too cold at the daily low in Reno to pour without the building enclosed. In some cases tarps are enough but obviously it wouldn't make sense here. It's hard to say about the M&E elements. They may have been roughed-in prior to the grade beams being poured.
@markorcutt2115Күн бұрын
I was wondering if the roof was going to be finished along with the outside wall panels before the weather closed in. Then the concrete pour could be staged during weather permitting times in the following months.

Years back, we often used temporary kerosene heaters to keep freshly poured slabs from freezing.

Modern concrete technologies and additives overcome many curing and strength (HES) concerns of the past. Sidewalks are often poured with standard mixes because it's less expensive.
@machoopichoo2Күн бұрын
@@ethioUSA I did quite a few construction projects that dealt with cold weather. At an existing building site (tenant fit-up) that was not heated and the drywall/sheetrock mud needed to dry, they used, I believe what is called a catalytic heater, which doesn't create much CO2 but needs oxygen supply (don't ask me how that works), so maybe a half open window sufficed. In Alberta, Canada, where it was -20*C or lower, they build year round. They just tarp the thing and blast it with propane heaters. Not at all efficient but shows it can be done.

Need a lot of bananas to scale it! ... With chemicals you can shorten or lengthen concrete curing time. But concrete keeps curing over its lifetime, no just 30 days. Some old dams have had core samples taken and they are much harder than it was ever designed to be.

If you had truly paid attention to Zengler’s videos, you would have noticed that he believed after seeing 10,000 (🤪) concrete trucks drive into the building, that the northwest section of the building with the completed roof had had a concrete floor installed.
@billyrocket62Күн бұрын
I believe that they are already pouring concrete inside the NW corner of the building, and following along as the roof gets finished above. If they can finish the outer shell of the building and get it al insulated, then they can continue to pour concrete inside even during the winter.

If we're talking about figuring out a deer brain, we're talking chaos theory. And pure vision is going to miss seeing deer, just like humans. They will catch more movement sooner that we will, but a still deer in the dawn/dusk time is an invisible deer. Living in deer country I was so happy when Cadillac came out with infrared vision, but it never really caught on.

My expertise is in understanding project management. I had endless hammer-swingers tell me I couldn't possibly understand the Giga Texas project while it was underway, because how could I possibly know what's going on if I've never spent a minute in the trades? When the factory had just a few dozen vertical columns, I mathematically predicted the completion date to within a couple weeks of actual completion. Turns out I have a skillset they didn't understand. Oh, and I have more familiarity with the hands-on aspect than you might expect.
