I would recommend Keith Ray, he was the county Archaeologist for many years (he's appeared on Time Team numerous occasions), author of 'The Archaeology of Herefordshire: An Exploration' (which uses a photo of Arthurs Stone for the cover, highly recommended), he's done talks at the local Dorstone village hall about the recent discoveries found in the area, and also made a video at this site back in 2009! kzbin.info/www/bejne/foTQYmungL9qf8U

We agree Juli. Julian Thomas was the lead archaeologist and we'd love to get him on for all sorts of reasons. He's one of the most prominent prehistoric archaeologists right now and a 'must have' for one of our interviews! We'll see what we can do. Best from Michael 😊

Always love your videos. So many sites have so much reuse and rework over the millenia. And I love the bit about Arthur's Stone and the inspiration for Aswan's sacrifice. I've always felt like Carrowmore in Ireland was possibly inspiration for Tolkien's barrow downs (at least as it was in the early 20th century). So many millennia taking their toll on these monuments...

Many thanks from Michael! So glad you enjoyed it 😊 It's not all doom and gloom though. It's easy to take for granted that many of our monuments are under care these days. It wasn't always the case and we do care for our stuff considerably better than some other countries. Then again, we still need to be watchful!

there is another 8-9ft standing stone nearby called 'Wern Derys' (the tallest in Herefordshire) and one of the country's oldest Yew Trees in Peterchurch is over 3000 years old! lots of history in the Golden Valley!

The scenery brought a tear to my eye! It must have be truly AWE inspiring to be there! Now i feel like i was. Thank You ? Do we know who or when it was uncovered/removed the mound it was buried in?
@ThePrehistoryGuys4 жыл бұрын
Many thanks from Michael! So glad you enjoyed it 😊 No we don't know when exactly the mound was destroyed. It could have happened over a very long time - or then again, a concerted effort by a farmer looking for an easy source of stone ...

Love this "behind the scenes" look at Arthur's Stone. I'd never heard of it before I saw your previous short video. Regarding "trespassing"...I thought hikers had to be allowed free access across fields, or is that only in Scotland?
@ThePrehistoryGuys4 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlotte - Michael here. Glad you enjoyed the film. As for trespassing, I think hat's only in Scotland. Stray off a 'public footpath' in England and you are technically trespassing, though that's between you and the landowner; not necessarily a criminal offence. All best 😊

Fascinating! Were the burial chambers underground? the field seems kind of flat
@ThePrehistoryGuys4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I give an example in the film (Belas Knap) of how the monument might have looked. The chambers were not below ground level, however the stones you see would have been covered with a substantial man-made mound of stones and earth. Best from Michael 😊

Not wishing to get particularly political but Brexit is a total disaster for us. The cheap wine might be one of the few good things about being 'stuck' here when freedom of movement is curtailed. Mind you, the virus is doing a perfectly good job of that all on its own...

The Prehistory Guys yup Politics mmmmm maybe not such a good idea my apologies Still given the spread on dna and migration across time I imagine politics was alive and well back then as it is now with all the same drivers see maslows hierarchy of needs I’ve always had a sneaky suspicion the British isles wasn’t the backwater of the Eurasian continent it’s always portrayed as back then indeed I i think it may have been part of a much bigger connected picture and certainly political ideas of say Europe and Asia which are actually the same landmass won’t have existed Trumpian border walls of the mind and all that.... and politics again haha 😂
