some thoughts: I have 235s (firestone destination AT2) on stock suspension in a 3 door 2023 manual Jimny. No heavy offroading but i live in costa rica and we have some bad roads, I usually just go slow on those. No rubbing after 5 months, no visibile deformation, no rubbing sounds, all the tyre surroundings are pristine. I guess is only on really extreme situations or for a car that is heavily used on offroading that your warning applies. In my country, i will never need snow chains. Im still planning to have the 2 inch lift at some point, but not completely sure its neccesary if you use it for just light offroad (the one that doesnt climb or requires deep articulations). Also, for gas consumption on the city I dropped from 11,9km per liter to 11,8 km per liter with the tyre change. For me, the looks of 235s on stock are the coolest.
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hello Thanx for tuning in sir.235s do look cool .They increase the aesthetic appeal of the jimny,along with that the high amounts of grip you get is also an added functionality. Your thoughts are not wrong as these tyres would easily handle soft offroading or even the moderate offroad is nicley done without rubbing the tyres. The big concern here are the snow chains,if one would need snow chains then the lift is very much required. As my surroundings get moderate snow fall i would need the chains and the lift. Thanx for tuning in and sharing your experience.Have a great day.

Well explained. I only recently picked up my Jimny and was considering driving straight to a tyre dealer to trade in the stock Duelers for a set of Geolandar A/T tyres in size 215/75R15. However, I decided to use my stock tyres until I wear them out. I don't want to mess with the warranty, least of all while the car is still new. I hear that the Jimny is still quite capable with the stock tyres so I might as well use them. By the way, I noticed the HP plates. I recently rode to Narkanda and saw more Jimnys in Himachal on that one trip than I have seen in Noida since this car was launched! The Gypsy was really popular in HP so perhaps it is natural that the Jimny would be too.

Hi,thanx for the appreciation.Congrats for the jimny you own.The stock tyres are the most comfortable ones,only in mud and snow one can realize it's shortcomings.Mind it the stock tyres are also M+S rated,they are decently capable.215s are the most hassle free upgrades. In my personal opinion 225 70 R15 will be a good fit, instead of 235 or 215 75 R15. While articulating the 5mm less sidewall of 225 70 r15 tyre will not get rubbed. Also, there are a lot of people who want to upgrade the tyres but do not want to install a lift kit as it results in more body roll in routine drive, for them specially, 225 70 r15 is a good option.
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hello Ashwin, The 225 size is available only with select brands which are very few, So a no problems size is the 215 only. As per my observations even the 225 can rub and wont accomodate snow chains. The 215 is the only size which will suffice for all needs and for most of the owners.but 235 requires a lift kit. As i mentioned in the video also ,215 is a very tension free tyre size.

When would you put the elevation on it?
@sailorsanjoy Жыл бұрын
Sir you missed a major point with upgrading from 195 to 235 . The tyre diameter percentage is increased by 5.9 % which is just too much . Your odometer , speedometer will be off by a mile and the car will struggle with gearing , specially the automatic . You can put 235's or 30 or 31 inch tyres with a lift kit n a little bumper trimming but you will have to change the transfer case gearing or the final drive ratios to compensate for the increase in diameter of the tyre .
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hi,you have made a very precise and detailed calculation.I am aware of the facts you mentioned here.The speedometre does get miscaliberated by a slight margin and the engine also feels slugish a bit.The AT is a one cog less and power loss would be felt with greater intensity,no doubt.Changing the gear ratios is a big and very technical task,most needed when sitching to bigger 33s.A lot of points and facts still get left out while shooting. Thanx for your suggestion,have a great day.Do subscribe
@hhhs001 Жыл бұрын
That 5.9% diameter change is hardly a mile, and actually nicely compensates for the speedometer that's factory set to under-report. Whilst noticeably slower, the auto can handle it. Have travelled at 110km/h on the highway for extended periods of time. Not as dramatic as you make it out to be.
@sailorsanjoy Жыл бұрын
@@hhhs001you can do 110 km/ hr on 31 x 10.5 R15 tyres as well but selecting an upsize over 2 % is not recommended for a reason . If you need ground clearance , you could fit bigger tyres but understand the downsides . I am also running 31x10.5 in my suzuki gypsy , but back then I never understood the math of tyre size v engine power v gearing .
@hhhs001 Жыл бұрын
@@sailorsanjoy understood. I'm just calling out going to 235/75R15 is not as dramatic as claimed on here and on forums / online groups. It's noticeable and not a good idea if you never off-road. But it certainly does not require gearing changes in high range at all.

I am using Yokohama 215/75R 15 AT with airpressure of 28 in all tyres of Jimny automatic Yesterday, I took the vehicle in the hills for the first time & to my surprise...I found the car was jerky on Road whereas it was settling properly while passing through path holes or rough terrain on slow speeds . As a driver I felt a lot of body roll on corners in hills & was afraid as if the vehicle may get unstable on corners. I was driving solo & without any luggage. There are no other alterations done in the vehicle..I mean no weight additions apart from tyres upgradation. Can you pl suggest solution to this ... should I reduce the tyre pressure further from 28 while driving in hills.
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Greetings Amit,Jimny has got a suspension set up which is on a softer side,which helps it in absorbing all the rough offroad patches.But jimny behaves differently on metalled road potholes.Due to both front and back solid axles and ladder on frame construction it behaves differently under such paved potholes.The solution is to tune down your psi to 26 or even 25. I often drive mine on 24 psi and the ride is then very cushioned and the effect of potholes is reduced.i suggest trying 26 psi. And ya one needs to be careful while cornering but jimny is decently stable on curves.

Hello shariq,with the lift kit also go for R 15 only,the 16s or the 17s can still touch because of the huge suspension travel the jimmy has.jimny's body arches are not meant for bigger sizes.Also consider when turning to the max,to avoid rubbing the wheel well will require a lot of cutting, also depending on the inset of alloys too.i would suggest to go with R 15 only,rest all would be experimentation. @@RoadsOfTheMountains I’m hearing you brother! You’ve got to start your mods somewhere. I’ve spent close to $20k AUD on my Jimny since purchasing and could not be happier. Definitely get a rear diff locker with air compressor mounted in the engine bay, lift kit, rock sliders, long range fuel tank, extended diff breathers also to the engine bay and your Jimny will become a mountain goat that’s unstoppable. And a last word definitely keep the 235s, you cannot do better than the 235s.

@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hi,You will have to ask your dealer if he has one,try with the dealers in the chandigarh Area.215 size is a smaller section tyre not sure if They import it in this size.But still you can try

I think this issue can be easily handled by making some adjustments in the wheek well . Good video tho
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hi,well it would have more than 1 solutions to handle it,but cutting down on bumpers and making other spaces inside the wheel well is a last resort for me.Even after that the snow chains would not accomodate.Getting rid of the wheel arch extensions is the simplest one but very unprofessional Thanx for tuning in and do subscribe.

A UAE jimny owner completely replaced the front and rear bumper with Japnese narrow K Car virsion. It looks likes tyres are bulging out from the fender.
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
@@infinitebeing1119 Removing those would make the jimny look bad.wheel arch extensions are very important.Getting rid of those is not good at all.Therefore only a lift kit would help in the case of 235s.
@infinitebeing1119 Жыл бұрын
@@RoadsOfTheMountains I am not talking about wheel arch. He replace the front and rear bumper only with japnese k car virsion. It looks unique like old jeep with raised fenders.

Just do a 50mm lift. I am on a 235 75 r 15, will be charging to 265 70 r 15 with 30mm spacer
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hi,thanx for tuning in.As of now i am looking into all the sophisticated equipment that is available for the jimny.50 mm sounds like a perfect upgrade,i also have my eyes on adjustable suspensions.Lets see what suits best . Spacers are a very efficient and cost friendly upgrades.Be careful when the rubber spacers wear out they can cause parametre changes in all four tyres.Better plan for a lift kit only. Stay tuned and do subscribe. Have a great day

Please do not use 4x4 at full steering lock when you're at standstill. It puts a lot of strain on the drivetrain and other parts. I know you showed for demonstration purpose but don't damage your vehicle for us.
@RoadsOfTheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hi,thanx for highlighting this lesser known fact.I am aware of the 4x4 implications,specially on paved roads and full steering locks.cv joints are stressed out. Yup that was just for the demo,appreciate your concern for my jimny.2 H is my all time buddy on tarmac and regular usage. Thanx stay tuned.

Everybody knows you at least have to lift the car 2 inches before even thinking about bigger tyres, and then with 2 inches the 215 is the better option.....

Hi,Upgrading the 5 door jimny is kind of a journey in itself.So whilst my lift kit is still being finalised,i wanted to first see the fitment of these 235s without lifting.Evrything will eventually fall into it's place once the lift kit is installed. Thanx for tuning in.
