@ForkInTheButt people tend to forget considering the purpose of their rig. While short base might be beneficial in some situations it might become a disadvantage in others. For example, I'm sick of hearing that only true 4x4 is Tj. I have 3 dogs, 2 kayaks and load of camping gear. If I want to do a 2 week overland trip there is no way a TJ is suitable vehicle. Sure if you're weekend rockcrawler you might be able to do just fine with tj but that's about it.

Thanks for a very nice video! Well done! ❤️ As a Gen4 Jimny owner with 225/70R15 AT’s (it’s my daily driver) I’ll change the standard shocks to ARB’s OM EMU or the BP51’s, but I don’t want to change springs because I’m happy with them as the are. - But before changing the shocks I’ll add automatic diff-lockers from Kaiser. (Kaiser’s main business is making diff-lockers for tractors & trucks. Kaiser is from Brazil, and the design/engineering is more advanced than the ones from Powertrax/LockRight.) I will order a Kaiser’s rear locker at the end of July 2022, and a front one in December. - Why diff-lockers you may ask. Because Suzukis AllGripPro is way to slow to react/engage. When other brands only needs a few minutes of a full turn to engage, Suzuki needs 4-5 full turns (hours) if you see the wheel as a clock. Suzy’s slow engagement is so slow you’ll lose any/all the momentum you had before it engages. Yes, the AllGrip is better than an open diff, but one or two diff-locker/-s is way better. That’s why. As I have chosen the Kaiser as my best option, I dare to say the Kaiser lockers will transform the Jimny from a very capable 4x4 to a mountain goat. And for a way cheaper price than the best lockers from ARB.
@4WDTV2 жыл бұрын
yes great feedback and you are not wrong about the lockers, they make an already good 4x4 into a mountain goat! But from the side of experience, we would never touch auto lockers and the extra price for the Air Locker is worth it for that 100% confidence that it is actually either 100% in or out. Auto lockers are fighting themselves whether you are on or off road and we have seen the springs, clutch plates and other parts fail many times. Not that the air locker is perfect either 😂 but it is just our choice from decades of hardcore off roading and touring in some of the world's toughest regions.
@BorisEkner2 жыл бұрын
@@4WDTV Well, it’s obvious we have different experiences. Meaning, I haven’t done your hardcore off-roading, ie I’ve done more of the soft core kind. And I still do, I guess. Yes, the air-locker from ARB is still the best one - but the price is way out of my league. (My government/wife would demand a divorce if I’d buy the ARB’s!) So the Kaiser ones are still my best option. Talking about price paid, one ARB air locker is ~US$2200 + the cost of the air compressor, while the Kaiser one is less than US$1000 installation included. This is why I favor the Kaiser one. I disagree with your opinion of 100% in/out. My experience from the Powertrax/LockRight is that they worked very well, as expected during the 5 yearI had it in the rear of my Gen3 Jimny. I never had any negative issues with them at all. On the contrary it was nothing but awesome. As the Kaiser ones are better engineered/designed compared to the LockRight I expect them to be even better. Time will tell if I’m right - or wrong.

@4WDTV4 жыл бұрын
oh of course. We love to hear everyone's opinions. When driving in very technical situations with manual 4x4s, sometimes you have no choice but to change gears. It's always best to avoid it as you say, but sometimes it is not possible. It's best to drive to the conditions and no one rule is right for every driver in every vehicle in every situation.

Hey guys! This is exactly what I did when I bought my jimny. Started stock, took it offroad to find its limits (without breaking stuff) and then decided what I want and need slowly. Now its like that: 2" EFS lift, M/T tires (original size - bigger is not allowed sadly), front and rear axle, radius arms and transfer case guards, rock sliders, cut the front bumper to a half size and installed towing points, disconnected the front sway bar completely and of course - a rear electric locker. This car is so much capable stock but now I go almost anywhere. I couldnt help but notice that you were in Low range, but somtimes it seems like the traction control kicked in, did you engage it even though it gets cancelled in Low range? or is it just momentum and grip playing a part? Because I can see some tough terrain there that would leave your wheels spinning if you are not locked, but you kept going up... Im still wondering how :)
@4WDTV3 жыл бұрын
It was just the traction of the rocks and tyres combining, no traction control. That is a very tough section of track. It was a lot of fun and a bit tough with the standard gearing.

How is its gearbox performance does it gear up while you want to climb at gear 1 or 2? And does it need differential lock?
@xiaoyu882 жыл бұрын
@@cthaeh3936 Hey sorry my comments were in my spam mail somehow. It has in the auto gearbox D, 3, 2, and L (which is 1st gear). If you stick the shift lever in one of those, it won't go up in gear unless you move it yourself. I do have rear locker because for the stuff I do it is sometimes very helpful to come slower to the obstacle and not break your car with momentum just to climb up. I have managed to go places with right technique and a good spotter without the locker but for some stuff you just need one, at least rear.

Good day. Awesome video. What size lift did you go for to fit the 30s. I’m currently fitting tough dog 80mm lift and looking at 30s or 31s with stock bumpers. Any advice

The Jimny is all great but still, the Iveco is special, also in price.
@4WDTV3 жыл бұрын
The Iveco works out about the same as a Landcruiser but with some advantages.

5 minutes in, I'm astonished that he got as far with such a defeatist attitude - not someone that I'd like to represent a brand. Also, it doesn't bode well when a dealer mispronounces the name of a product: It's not Jiminy, it's Jimny. All that being said, the modifications to the Jimny were spot-on and clearly effective. Ironically, as a Suzuki Jimny owner, I now want to swop it for a Iveco...

There are no dealers in this video and no opine representing the Suzuki brand. It is just a Suzuki fan and there is probably no one else in Australia that knows as much about Suzuki 4x4s...he is just excited 😉

what are the tyres specs?

Wish they sold that little Toy in the US. It has so much potential and is cheap! Yeah my Jeep Rubicon with 38 inch tires and $50,000.00 in upgrades would roll up that joke of obstacle road without much strain. But that Toy I think could outdo my expensive rig with the right mods on certain trails and be more fun for a lot less cash.

That's one of the toughest tracks in our area and it eats cruisers and patrols on 35s but yes, a Jeep with lockers on 37s or bigger would do well. We have strict laws limiting tyre size here. The Jimny is great little beast.

The only 3 add on for your jimny is off road tires, led light, diff lock and you will have the perfect little off road car
@4WDTV2 жыл бұрын
that's not bad but changing the gearing in the transfer case is a good one also. It all depends on the sort of driving you will be doing.

Doctored to some extent making the stock Jimny intentionally fail much earlier when he could have backed up a little bit and tried again, but still this car is fantastic

no not at all. We pulled out when we had reached the safe limits of what the vehicle was capable of. No point pushing beyond the point of breaking things.
@4WDTV3 жыл бұрын
pushing harder would have been irresponsible and unethical based on possible damage to the vehicle and track.

Did Alan own piranha off-road in Boronia? I’m pretty sure he bought my Suzuki Sierra comp car back in 2009
@4WDTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes Alan was the owner of Piranha. He recently sold it, just over a year ago and now he has a Suzuki shop out the back.
