PSA now that Dragronflight makes this fight soloable by most classes. You can out DPS the phases causing the dark phase to bug and not get Illidan. Best to DPS "slowly".

Only with high level gear, Blizz keeps nerfing classes in relation to legacy raids so the top geared players having something remotely resembling a challenge. Good luck doing this on an alt with level 350 gear.

If you're like me and doing this in Dragonflight and wondering why the Darkness phase keeps bugging: Don't kill any of the shadows until you lose your sight. For some reason, it bugs out and thinks the phase has been complete, even if you've only killed one of the five.. I waited until I lost my vision, then killed the shades, and finished the fight without any hiccups.

After he lands, just unload everything you have on the guy. You can kill him before he begins the next phase

you can also use the Craven Stratagem legendary power to feign off the dot damage during the fight, very helpful

after i failed quite a few times at the orbs. here is my way i did it....and its quite easy. look where the first orb falls and place yourself as close as possible to it but in the direction the next orb comes down. it should push you there so you only have a few meters to walk to the next postion. and repeat.

This fight is bugged to hell for me. First no Illidan. Then right before I find Illidan the boss just resets! After that I manage to find Illidan but nothing happens. Dumb.

managed to do it in the end after 10+ tries or so. The orbs bug out. Randomly. Sometimes they kockback, sometimes they dont. I just got lucky one time. I play dk.

Came here to see if this was happening to anyone else, couldn't find illidan despite sprinting across the entire platform and just died to the bombs I couldn't see

Try setting him as your focus so you can quickly target him and see him on the mini-map

It has since been nerfed, you don't really need to find Illidan. Whenever he begins to cast the darkness, you can just go and kill 1 of the shadows and it immediately ends the phase, which is a relief as you can also avoid any singularities during the dark. I just killed it on my Pally and didn't even need to find Illidan, good luck to all Tmog farmers out there!

As of 11/25/22 there is a bug at this point. Killing one doesn't end the phase, and Illidan no longer spawns properly.

Also had this bugg for like third time in a row. Darkness Phase comes. Illidan does not spawn. I kill all the adds. Phase doesnt end like it should. And unable to hit the Boss im doomed to wipe

As of DF S4, all you need is Grieftorch. I expected it to be tricky, like in olden times. Nah, just clicked Grieftorch and up came cutscene. :D

in dragonflight with decent gear you will kill him before the darkness fall with most classes but with Feral for example I cant do enough damage in time so this actually helped me. Thank you

EASY hack for the dark phase, scroll up on your mouse into first person and it becomes light again. Blizzard never fixed that

tbh wasnt even a problem. cleared the ghosts immediately and i could see again. way before the bomb went off. also only spawned 1 for me, assuming its due to the short lenght of that phase.

what's the trick to feign death not resetting the fight? I'm using pet taunt at the same time but it still ends

I know this is a year late, but to add onto what Momentine said: this works with any ability that resets aggro as long as it's not on the GCD. If you attack immediately after using it, your aggro won't reset. I use this to proc my crit legendary as a Rogue by using Vanish and then immediately using a damaging ability.

one of the worst balanced mythic boss fights in the wow s history... bring few classes plus very good players...back in time... dark orbs werent that hard, but tunning itself was absolutly crazy, ton of unavoidable dmg +crazy mobility requirements .... i am still haunted by this fight :D.

So in other words, it's near impossible if you don't have a ton of mobility and self heals. Every way you deal with a mechanic is SPECIFIC to hunters. Not everyone has - forcing aggro onto a pet with MD, disengage, turtle, exhilaration, feign death, soulshape, etc. This fight is so fucking ridiculous, I can't believe Blizzard is too stupid to scale this properly.
