Hey CGB, mono green player here. I'll be totally honest, that day was like my first day in mythic, and I was so in the zone, I didn't even notice it was you! Watching it back I remember how mad I was about those inkeeps, they really did work in that game, particularly the turn with the sentinel and chariot coming down and those thereafter, 6 life to take you from 9 to 15, and allowed you to block pretty well for my next turn, and then another 8 life on your next turn, crazy stuff. To be fair, playing mono green I have noticed that it can just struggle against decks with life gain which can also create a strong board presence, and I guess in a way this list essentially mimicked that build in this particular game. Two goldspan's also go a long way, always have to just hope they only have the one, and you find a way to kill it. I was fortunate to have the answer to the first, extremely fortunate to have the answer to the second. Game was a lot closer than it seemed. Fun to be a cameo though! Catch you next time on the ladder! Edit: Fun facts: Went back and did the math, you gained 21 total life that game from the inkeeps, and I did a total of 30 damage to face.
@Calfa2x3 жыл бұрын
I also play monogreen and started to include a couple of innkeepers, it doesn't seem like much but the mana fix is awesome early game and the life gain is the cherry on top. Most of the time it survives because people don't want to spend resources to kill it, the tokens from chariot and ranger class token trigger it a lot so I think it deserves a spot in the deck.
@tachyonalpha3 жыл бұрын
@@Calfa2x I can understand the appeal, but I like playing eight 3 drops (the trolls and the oozes) to go over the top of other aggro lists, as well as some instant speed interaction, which both mean I don't have room for another set of 2 drops for my curve. Plus i am also now trying playing intrepid outlander's as a part of my 2 drop slots, to help against mono white flyers and others, and I don't think the inkeeps would get in ahead of them. They make sense in this gruul ramp/aggro list though, and would equivalently be a must have in more of a ramp/aggro mono green. But my list functions more as a midrange/aggro/go-wide n big, and no ramp (not even sentinels), except if a troll dies of course.
@Calfa2x3 жыл бұрын
@@tachyonalpha I agree with sentinels but I'm not sure if Varis would cover the outlander's spot better. You venture by just casting a creature and the ward 1 really helps. The problem with pack tactics is that is somewhat difficult to achieve against a competent player. The innkeeper is mainly for the mana fix and casting esika on turn 3, there are a lot of hands where faceless haven can screw you over, specially with cards like the troll and werewolf.
@tachyonalpha3 жыл бұрын
@@Calfa2x I did consider Varis but like I say, I already have my 3 drops covered. Plus varis only triggers once a turn, he’s only a 3/3, and he’s legendary. Intrepid outlander blocks flyers just as well as varis does, and they come down a turn earlier. Ward is neat but it’s only ward 1 and certainly not game changing. Although if there were a decent green body in the meta with outright hexproof then I could see that potentially being a shoe in. To be honest I don’t really care about the pack tactics on the outlanders, if it triggers then cool, a little extra value, but I just have them for a another 2 drop with 3 toughness like the pack leaders. And although it’s not as threatening as a pack leader, the fact that it has 2 power is more important than you’d think. It also gets around a lot of early removal, to name a few, frost bite (on the play), prismari command, crush the weak/cinderclasm, and the -1/1 on a shambling ghast (can trade preferably with them). I understand the issue with faceless haven, but I think it’s better to just grin and bear it. Even though I’m aggro I run 26 land, which has the added though ever so slight benefit of being more likely to draw forests instead of havens. Of course I would like to see havens as the game progresses, but realistically if you’re needing them too early then the game might already be over. So while I understand what you mean about mama fixing, I just don’t see it as enough of an issue to warrant it personally. I’d like every creature I play to be a threat, or be hard to kill early. Sure with an inkeep I could ramp into a chariot, but I just don’t think it’s worth what you lose for the off chance of getting a chariot down earlier, especially considering I only run 3 now. Though I will admit that the consistent life gain you can achieve with in keeps and chariots can be crazy like it was here. All in all, it’s whatever works for you and your deck, however you want it to play. For me and my list, the inkeeps don’t make the cut, but as I’ve said I can understand their inclusion in other lists. Varis is more of a debatable one, I think outlanders fill the same role at a better rate, but then again some people might even run both, I could see that. I’m faithful to my oozes though, they often eat removal, but when they live damn can they do work.

Too many quick threats for mono blue right now, gets overwhelmed pretty easily. Also, there are a lot of creature lands which mono blue can't interact with so your counters are just dead cards in hand. It doesn't help that the blue creature land is too expensive and mono blue can rarely afford it.

Yes, the problem is that you lose the flexibility of shatterskull, if the enemy doesn't play creatures meteor is just a dead card in your hand. In BO1 you want to cover all matches without sideboard and shatterskull does that while meteor doesn't.
