+dajara521 Try A New Era, just for fun. +icverano: I agree wholeheartedly about them as classics, but they couldn't do much and aren't supported any more, basically being glorified model train sets. Trainz 12 and up are better. Hell, the only thing missing from A New Era is the feeling of heat from the firebox in a steamer, the wind in your hair when you look out of the cab, the feedback on the throttle as the big iron horses move, and the deaths and massive investigations from the NTSB when your train crashes. Everything else within A New Era is as realistic as it can get! So forgive my bluntness when I say the brutal-but-honest-truth: while TRS2004/2006 are indeed classics, they're also relics and consigned to the past. New generations will be introduced to the new stuff, and O4/06 will be forgotten as time marches on. As time progresses, relics such as these will be tossed aside. People live in the here and now, but gain knowledge, and knowledge alone, from the past.

+Kerry Freeman I purchased TS2010 to use its compatibility mode with my older content and it ran beyond poorly on my computer, which is designed for gaming. Anything newer than that would cause 80% of my content to quit working, included would be the Project, 836, Victor, Ernest, Eddy, Lenny, Eric, Ron, Steve, and I'm sure others as well. I don't understand why people tell me I'm wrong for using a version that I like. In my opinion, Trainz was better in the TRS2004/2006 era, anything newer is unstable.

@TheNWClassA12188 жыл бұрын
Also, you did a pretty good job with the editing when the Project was remembering Victor and the Trainmasters used to build him. How exactly did you take all those shots of the Project without the rails and with the night background, sort of making it seem that he was off in his own world, reflecting on things that happened before his life?
@dajara5218 жыл бұрын
The set was pretty simple, just a one baseboard route with a black ground texture and invisible track, set to perpetual nighttime to keep it dark. The Project was filmed stationary and I used some of Vegas' effects to move the camera by zooming in on the shot and then panning.

dajara521 That's amazing!
@TheNWClassA12188 жыл бұрын
Oh, what do you think about this theory? Another possible reason the 836 is causing trouble for other trains is because he wants the bridge he wrecked at to be a sacred spot. Like that's basically his hiding spot now since he wrecked there. So he doesn't like it when other trains cross the bridge because he wants that to be his own spot. I can think this up because at least 2 trains: That one train in Residual Haunting led by that Dash 9, SD70ACe, and C40-8, as well as the train in Mythos led by 2 SD40-2s and a GP35, were heading in the direction of the bridge before UP 836 brought their journeys to a halt.

You may be right, though it always seems to happen when least expected. They all had destinations to make it to, and if they considered the 836 (I highly doubt they would have since most of the engines think the whole ghost story is bogus), they could have found an alternate path of travel. But you know like GintaPPE1000 said, a ghost doesn't think the same way we do...

Gotta say, it takes a lot of creativity and brains to come up with an original ideas for Trainz videos nowadays and this has it written all over. Along with the hard work that was put into it as that's one thing that most Trainz videos are kinda lacking. Most of them honestly are just short films of trains passing a crossing with or remakes of Thomas the Tank Engine episodes. This video shows that you can do a lot more with Trainz than just that, all it takes is a little bit of creativity and skill. What I think is sad is that I find you highly underrated because these are honestly a lot better than about half of the Trainz videos on the internet. (No offense to other Trainz users)

Very well done, can't recall seeing a simulator-filmed short this good since The Full Bucketniers, let alone one with no voice for it's main character. As a writer myself, I found that it's really hard to develop a comprehensive character based solely on their actions alone, but you've pulled it off marvelously, not just once with The Project, but twice 836 as well. On the matter of 836, her ghost effects are so much more befitting of who she is in this movie than in Residual Haunting. I really like them. I presume after The Project's death, 836 just wasn't able to appear or didn't feel like appearing again until the events of Residual Haunting (otherwise maybe SP would've called in a ghostbusting squad or something)? I suppose there's a clue for what she wanted of The Project. Also, why did The Project's front numberboards change from green/black to red at around 24:03? Is it meant to signal emotional distress? One last thing, if you're doing any more videos with hunter-killer engines (especially like the ones at 31:25), might I suggest having the death squads push a rotary snowplow or some sort of ram in front of them? That would certainly would be something to run away from...
@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
+GintaPPE1000 The 836 can usually only appear around the yearly anniversaries of the accident (June 1953), and only if there is something present in the area to give it the energy to return. This was Steve (UP 844) in Residual Haunting due to his historical significance with the 836 and the Project in Mythos because the Project possessed its own supernatural energy. You are right about the Project's numberboards. It learned a lot in the moments where it was having that flashback while the 836 was teleporting it away from the ambush location. As for the snowplow idea, that's a really interesting concept. I think all the snowplows in Trainz are only capable of 15 or so mph, but it could probably be modified easily to go faster. Otherwise, I may be able to find some other intimidating device. Glad you enjoy the videos, I like getting really long comments like this one that show that my viewers are really analyzing what I've done.

One thing that I don't really like/fathom about this film was the fact that the locomotives that provided that railgun they used to destroy the Project... were from SECX. SECX stood for Southeast Coal Company. They weren't actually their own railroad, they just provided locomotives (they had a handful of GP38-s and GP20s as well) and some hoppers, for the L&N. L&N crews actually called the SECX units "The sex train". So if Mythos takes place on the West Coast, then why feature those Eastern SECX locomotives? It makes no sense to me. The U.S. Army has their own railroad (the Navy did too), so it would make LOTS more sense to have THEM supply the railgun.

Nice job! Glad it finally came out! So I see how the engines did everything they could to stop the project, but it was no use. But that was before they decided to give it sugar fuel. Wow, the 836 seems to be following the project while it's already thinking about its creator and other Trainmasters. Some of those chase scenes toward the end remind me of The Mohawk That Wouldn't Quit. Also, I have a few questions if you don't mind. It's one thing for 836 to be able to wreck the other trains, but how in the world can he create more than one of himself? I recall Eddy in Residual Haunting saying that it may have been Steve who caused him to gain power, but he didn't seem as powerful then. And how did UP 257 come back? I thought he was attacked by the Trainmaster in Master of Train after Earnest made the mistake of delivering the train and when those UP Geeps met up with Jimmy again. Lastly, where did you find the route that was used in most of Gentle Giant? Like it was shown at 25:38 and other scenes.
@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
CottonBeltSD40T The 836 seems to gain power with a few circumstances. Having the Project cross the bridge gave it enough power to be seen again, and the cloning effects could have been evidence of even more power. As for 257, Mythos takes place one month before Master Of Train, so 257 would still be around. The route is called UMR, which stands for Ultra Mega Route, and it is for TRS2004 on the DLS. Glad you enjoyed!
@TheNWClassA12189 жыл бұрын
I guess it makes sense on how 836 got more powerful. But the time part confuses me. It says at the beginning that it takes place in June of 1976, but I thought Master of Train took place in 1975 at the beginning and 1976 in the end.
@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
CottonBeltSD40T You are correct. Master Of Train's final scene is in 1976, and it is introduced as "one year later". At the end of the video, when Victor notes the progress log on the Project's completion, it is dated July 1975. So, one year later would be July 1976.

@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
+C Krebill The Project didn't receive a warm welcome from other engines on the SP when it was first built, and this devolved into a hatred of other motive power. The 836 seems to have a different motive each time it appears, and it only appears when something has given it enough energy to do so.

Dajara how long do you make your trains. They seem short in all your videos
@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
+Timorhy DeVillers It's interesting you caught that detail. I usually just make them long enough to look good on camera if they are not important to the plot. If it's a train that has a position in the plot, such as the chemical train from Master Of Train or the inspection train from Gentle Giant, I make it full length.

What was the reason for the train master being the creature why did you choose it. I'm not trying to be rude if it come of that way
@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
+Sycamore RidgeRR No problem, glad to answer questions. I've always been fascinated with the Trainmaster because of its unconventional design (the opposed piston engine) that it shares with all other Fairbanks Morse engines. Also, since Master Of Train takes place on the SP in 1975, using the Trainmaster makes sense because that was the year that SP retired the last of its Trainmasters. Not to mention, the Trainmaster has a wonderfully growly engine sound that made it perfect to portray a monster-like character.

I don't understand how this is possible (I'm referring to an aspect of reality, not so much what you included): In the intro, I swear I saw a Trainmaster coupled to a CSX hopper. The thing is that CSX wasn't around until 1986, which we all know is after Mythos takes place and after most Trainmasters (except CP 8905) were scrapped.
@dajara5217 жыл бұрын
You saw right, but it's not an H-24-66 Trainmaster, it's an H-16-66 Baby Trainmaster owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The video was taken in the 1990s. They still own it but it's been out of service for some time.
@TheNWClassA12187 жыл бұрын
Oh, alright. It just looked a lot like a regular Trainmaster to me.

Also when the 836 was about to derail that UP train (the night scene), how did you make it so that the 836 sped up while the other train didn't change speed?
@dajara5217 жыл бұрын
I recorded the 836 passing at a slow speed, then reversed it and then recorded it passing at a high speed. Then I moved it out of the way for the freight train to come by, because I had started it up before I began filming the 836. This was done so I wouldn't have to move the camera.
@TheNWClassA12187 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Wouldn't the freight train be slowly reversing when the 836 was being filmed? Sounds like it would have took forever for it to get where it needed to be.

How did you do the ghost effect at 21:31? I mean, I know how you made the 836 look like a ghost, but I mean that you were controlling 2 engines instead of 1 on that scene. Looks like you'd have to move the Project forward, film the 836 on that spot, and move the 836 off the scene. Without moving the camera. Looks like that would have been even trickier than the cloned ghost effects. Also can the 836 appear anytime in June or only starting on June 18th, like in Residual Haunting? Because if you know what I mean, the 40th anniversary of Mythos is this month. Not when it was released obviously (a little over a year ago), but when it took place.
@dajara5218 жыл бұрын
I filmed the Project driving over the bridge after setting the Project in motion ahead of time. I took control of the 836 and after the Project was off screen I moved it into position, took the shot, then moved it off screen for the last shot. The Project was mindlessly driving away during the whole sequence. As for 836's appearance dates, June 18th is the only day it can begin to appear if there is some sort of catalyst to give it energy. After that, it can continue to appear for what seems to be about a month provided there is still some form of energy keeping it going.

Anyone else watching this video in 2017? Personally, I think the final chase scene is the best part of it, though, was the Project going anywhere in particular?
@TheNWClassA12187 жыл бұрын
I'm still watching it now! And yeah the chase scenes are some of my favorite parts.
@natetrain98657 жыл бұрын
CottonBeltSD40T Well, glad to see im not alone. Although, I don't suppose it can be interpreted as to if the Project was going anywhere?
@TheNWClassA12187 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, as for that, it's hard to say. It looked like the Project had no destination, and was just wandering wherever, though it always could be possible that the Project didn't know that Victor had died and was still trying to find him. Otherwise I could only continue wondering why it never left that particular region of the railroad.
@natetrain98657 жыл бұрын

There is a series of locomotives here in Slovenia made by EMD in 1960 that look similar to trainmaster units. Also a locomotive is not exactly an immovable object.
@GintaPPE10009 жыл бұрын
+Aljaz Skarlovnik Immovable = not able to be moved. You can't make a ghost move, it's not even solid.
@engineerskalinera9 жыл бұрын
GintaPPE1000 Exactly, locos are quite movable, right?
@GintaPPE10009 жыл бұрын
Aljaz Skarlovnik How thick are you? "Immovable" refers to the ghost.
@dajara5219 жыл бұрын
+GintaPPE1000 When referring to the ghost, I was using the unstoppable force, since (when under the right conditions) it can achieve nearly anything it wants through teleportation, duplication and the ability to interact with other trains. The Project is the immovable object because of its brute strength and force.
