🤨 excuse me, sir/madam... you fail to realize that no less than 100% of all people that promote the Confederate flag are, in fact, die-hard Dukes of Hazard fans. Exactly zero individuals view the confederate flag as a symbol of white supremacy or black suppression, it’s all in honor and recognition of a TV show main character; the car known as the General Lee that those rascally Duke boys drove around causing shenanigans and mischief all over Hazard county To silence the symbol of their beloved orange car with the oh-so slide overable hood and welded shut doors would be the same as Culture Canceling the Flintstones because it “reenforced the outdated head of household male stereotype”. Sure Wilma and Betty had a voice, but Fred and Barney typically got their way while the women in the show were usually depicted doing housework, raising children and held Secretary-level jobs... but that doesn’t mean that it promoted misogyny... Think of all the Duke’s of Hazard fans that you’d be ostracizing and ~discriminating against~... which again, is 100% of all people that fly the Confederate flag ever... by denouncing the Confederate flag... - said everyone that is completely blind to the big picture

@@rlwetz4317 You completely misunderstood his point. He used a perfect metaphor to explain the situation in America right now. Like a movie that needs a remake, there are good scenes and bad scenes in our history. As you pointed out, Americans do have the right to freedom of speech and we enjoy many liberties that other nations do not possess. So that would be a good scene, if you use the metaphor. However, the brutalities that Black people (as well as other POC) have faced and continue to face are disgusting and horrifying. People are being shot in the streets! Imagine saying goodbye to a family member and never seeing them again. There are many great things about our country, true, but our nation needs radical change. America is supposed to stand for freedom and equality, after all, and the oppression that Black people have faced for centuries doesn't live up to these ideals. Please, think before you comment next time.

Considering that 2019's was pretty much an antithesis to everything KZbin *actually is* I can't even begin to imagine how they're going to do worse...and they've done worse nearly every year. 2018's rewind was **the most negatively received video on the entire site** and 2019's is #3 (Justin Beiber's music video 'Baby' holds #2...published in 2010 and needing six months to attain the #1 spot, 2018's video got there in a week). 2020's rewind will not feature the pandemic nor the protests. They'll find something trite and good-news-y to focus on, like the fact that there were no school shootings in March. Except that's neither true (there were) or good (because removing "school" from "school shootings" isn't a solution). Only it won't be that, because that'd be pandemic-adjacent. But they'll find something. It'll be something that was poorly researched, objectively false, and spun in a way to sound uplifting.

I went to Robert E. Lee High School in Fairfax, Virginia, named in 1958 out of spite against the state’s decision to force integration of schools after Brown v. Board, as was nearby JEB Stuart High in 1959 (now Justice HS). It’s no secret that the areas that these high schools served were mostly non-white when they were founded, and they remain primarily non-white today. I wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else for high school, but the name remains a stain on the community, the state, and the nation, and ought to be changed. My commencement speaker (the school board member at-large) even referenced this in his speech. References to school board minutes and local papers can be found on the school’s Wikipedia page.
