In US news and current events today, the East Baton Rouge Parish school board held a hearing to rename ‘Lee High School,’ named for Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Days earlier, board member Connie Bernard defended Lee falsely claiming that he was responsible for freeing enslaved people. Bernard was caught shopping on her laptop during the hearing. Robert E. Lee owned 189 enslaved people and fought in court to indefinitely postpone their emancipation, which the courts denied. As a general for the Confederacy, Lee was a traitor who took up arms against the U.S. All of the school board members, including Connie Bernard, voted to approve renaming Lee High School.

Luis Rosales it’s about what the statues represent. Not only were confederate soldiers traitors to the American constitution, they unapologetically committed crimes against humanity (aka terrorist). The 1,500+ monuments and statues were propaganda pushed by the Daughters of the Confederacy to try to paint slave owners as heroes / brave soldiers. They are trying to rewrite or “correct” history, this isn’t even a crazy conspiracy theory, it’s a legit cult with a specific agenda. Look up Daughters/ Sons of Confederacy.

I guess 1.5 thousand people understand nuance ,what history is and how to put it into its proper context. Oh and maybe because this guy's understanding of Robert e. Lee is misinformed. There's plenty of literature from Lee himself about how he felt about slavery ,the Yankees and fighting for the south. Also literature about Lincoln asking Lee to fight for and lead the union army . Lee turned this down because he didn't want to fight against his family . Whats worse is that almost no soldiers of the confederacy owned slaves. They simply fought because the north was trying to take over the south. Nor would the north let the south suscede from the union , which was perfectly within their right. And as you and all these uneducated people continue to be ignorant about history ....just remember one of the largest slave plantation and owner of slaves was a black man in Georgia or Tennessee, can't remember off the top of my head .I won't even touch on how the black Africans sold their own people. People who were slaves in Africa and if not for coming here ,to this day would still be slaves . Just ask the slaves that are still being sold out of Africa and ask those who have lived in generational slavery . Black people are only free in the western world thanks to those evil white people. If it weren't for white people putting an end to the practice, blacks around the world still would be slaves. I'm sure ,like this man in the video , that you don't want to have the real discussion about slavery because a real discussion involves being grateful to white people for making it possible for blacks to be anything other than slaves.

I, an 81 year old white man, who found this video to be one of the best I've ever seen here at KZbin because the gentleman tearing down the school board one Confederate at a time was most entertaining and I applaud his efforts to make sense. He was well spoken and his talking volume was exactly right for what he wanted and needed to say to them. He knew his history. He is a hero to me. Perhaps the city will name a school after him. He certainly deserves that honor.

There are some people going around in this comment section saying "he should focus his energy on something else other than inanimate objects" He would love to as he expressed in the video, but if it takes yelling and meetings for years to just remove a statue and name of a racist dude then he is spending his energy at the right place.

That’s what they fundamentally don’t get. He is at a school board meeting; the “right place” or the “correct place” to have this discussion (per non-violent criticism) and yet, the people in power - as being pointed out - are not listening or even CARING about what the community wants. And people are focus on HIM and him being passionate as WRONG. Not that the school board isn’t doing it’s job.
