This is an amazing piece of engineering and props to the people who designed it. Single robot looks great, truck and trailer look great, and fully combined looks amazingly like it looks in the cartoon. But will it replace my MP-22, no. I think the best line of this review is that they engineered the fun out of it. I like that I can take MP-22 off the self and give it a quick transformation back and forth and then put it back on the shelf. This thing looks like you need to dedicate a weekend to transform it, until you get the hang of it, but I do not see too many people actually transforming this thing for fun.

Yea, this is me. This looks cool but looks like a nightmare to transform. If you want a white Prime in your MP Magnus, this nailed that. Yes, MP-22 has the butt flap but it will remain my Magnus. I'm not sure I'd get this one even if both were out at the same time, but Fanstoys did a good job.

It looks good, but I don't care about a white Prime in armor. Fanstoys are going for toon accuracy but the white Prime in armour is not toon accurate, it is toy accurate. Going by how over engineered the white Prime is, it completely turns me off from getting this. Then there is the dual colour bleed in alt mode on the arms. X-Transbots might be the way for me.

It is rather off-putting, but it's also in a similar vein to what NewAge did with theirs on the Legends side of the field. Their Ultra Magnus set (H27W Conquest+H28 Octavian) had what would be the precursor to their eventual Optimus (regular H27 David). Though NewAge also strangely did both a Black Convoy aka Nemesis Prime (H27B Famine) AND a Wicked Purple Convoy/Shattered Glass Optimus (H27P Slaughter) using the Ultra Magnus version of the mold. Overengineered and overpriced like nearly everything NewAge has (one of their older ones, H9 Agamenmnon aka Megatron, is pretty cool and NOT an overly complimacated mess...but still woefully overpriced). Which is right on par with FansToys...overengineered and overpriced seems to describe their entire catalog (though their Soundwave would've avoided that if they'd chosen NOT to have all those option parts you can swap out for a toy accurate look).

I believe liketoys is working on a 3d printed bot insert for combined mode, allowing you to display the white prime separate. They also doing aerial-bot inserts for the Fanstoys superion.

Soooo many steps! Truck looks great and both robo modes are awesome, but there are so many tabs, panels, and armatures to swing, flip, and twist, this is VERY stressful. I know it’s harder to do on camera, but I felt for you when you said “I’m gettin’ tired”. I had to take a break and rest just watching. For me, I agree “they engineered the fun out of it.” My Takara KO’s of Prime and Magnus aren’t the best or MOST accurate, but they are fairly accurate and fun, and I don’t have to take 3 day’s vacation to transform them.

FT Ultra Magnus is a very unique figure. You can see the influence of MP-01, you can see it in Truck mode. I think the core bot is a combination of MP01 and MP44 with some Dreamwave touches(make sense since it was the main insporation). Magnus now I think is accurate on how he appeared on the G1 Movie.

I sorta wish they'd gone with the all in one conversion like MP and XTB, but I get it - everyone else did that already, etc. Doesn't really bug me either way aside from steps to get from A to B. But damn, the presentation on this is top notch. Seriously considering doing the swap from MP to this. The thinner shoulders and shins do a ton to make this guy look more proportionate.

Update: I got the figure a couple of days now, took me an hour to transform it from robot to truck. I don't like I have to bend and force the plastic to transform it. Oddly enough I did not find the transformation as hard as I was afraid of but the core robot could have been a bit more simple in the transformation. Impressive figure but it could have been a bit better. Somehow I feel it is more sturdier than XTB one, least I did not feel it will break at some point but with that said this thing relys on tabs and folding panels and I will suggest anyone who will get it to pay attention to the screws on those panels, I had to loose up some to avoid breakage.

“Mature” face-sculpt. Thank you! I’ve been looking for the word and couldn’t place it. I’ve loved my XTB Magnus but there is something about FT face-sculpts that I always like more (See Apache vs. Virtus or Quietus vs Eligos). I’m not crazy about the core robot’s (Prime) face-sculpt either so I’m with you on that as well. I don’t display in vehicle mode but this does seem a bit underwhelming to me. Still, the combined robot mode is money IMO. Very svelte for such a big bot. Thanks for the review and congrats on the 116.

And I like them but except for the Magnus, they feel a little wonky. I'm definitely getting the Fans Toys Magnus, but I'm thinking about replacint my movie crew with the Fans Toys and keeping my X-Transbots for their alt modes. Any suggestions?

I think what bothers me the most about this figure (other than the obvious problems), and why I'm still contemplating cancelling my pre-order, is that it's about 3x the price and size of NewAge's Ultra Magnus but feels inferior in many ways. NewAge Ultra Magnus isn't perfect by any means but it still feels more thoughtful and effective to me.

That white Prime is sad. It makes me so sad and disappointed that the mold will represent the biggest 3rd party companies rendition of the franchises biggest character. No. No amount of retooling can fix the problems here. The proportions can’t be fixed by different line work or a reworked pelvis. It looks like MP-1 in many aspects and in 2024 that’s not a good thing. That Magic Square piece is several years old and has exceptional heroic proportions and is superior in every single way. This thing is gonna be closer to MP 1 and 10 than any respectable Prime representation.

The bot in armor gimmick only really works for the stiff G1 engineering. The stuff they had to do in order for it to work makes the white truck look bad. Everything else looks great. But unfortunately that means i don't really need this version at all. I've got magic square white prime, and TH-04 magnus. Everything's covered.

I'm tempted to cancel my preorder as this didn't impress me. Robot mode looks good, not great, but has a pretty big backpack because of the core robot design. Alt mode is easily the worst of the 3. Transformation looks painful but, can be learned with time so I'm ok with that as XTB Stack wasn't easy and TT is too easy. If freaking Fans Toys doesn't require a non refundable $10 - $40 deposit, I'd cancel.

@@davidez4640 Yes, he looks fantastic if you're just going to display him and never transform. You'll also never see the huge backpack. Plus the core robot design, which ruin the alt mode, is a nice feature and Fans Toys never fails when it comes to paint. These are reasons why I haven't cancelled as he does look great and I'm thinking the same as you in that I'll keep him in robot mode and transform XTB into alt.

It’s simply to try and avoid getting into trouble with Takara and Hasbro. They make certain higher profile characters under a different brand name like Robot Paradise when they did Soundwave, thinking it will somehow protect them, even though everyone knows it’s Fanstoys. Also, having this in hand myself, I can assure you it is an excellent figure. So, yes you are reading too much into it.
