This show when it 1st came on saved me. My mother and father had been divorced for about 4 years and I was now 13 when I was watching this every Thursday night. My mom worked all the time and I longed for a family like this. The Waltons was my family every Thursday night. I still enjoy the reruns after all these years. I am 63 now. My parents grew up during the depression. I never really understood that time until I watched The Waltons. It is a show that is badly needed in today's world where children are growing up with no morals and values and all they think of is themselves. They expect everything that we worked so hard for to just be handed to them. They need to be taught the lessons that were in every single episode of this show. God bless the Hamner family and Schulyer, Virginia! God bless everyone involved in the show.

Over the past year, I watched all of 'The Walton's' seasons in it's entirety- The show first aired in the early 1970's when I was a teenager and continued throughout my young adulthood years, but I never watched it then. I was too busy being a teen and young adult back when it first aired- Today, I am now in my 70's, and decided to go on the journey and watched finally, 'The Walton's'. - The series was able to bring me to come to terms of what I personally have missing and yearning for during our current tumultuous times; a sense of values, traditions, and community in steadfastness. It's a yearning for what I feel is missing today.

The best sudden side trip I ever made was to Schuyler, VA on my way home to NC from NY a few years ago when I saw the sign that said The Walton's Mountain Museum. I had a lovely few hours at the schoolhouse revisiting the years I spent with the Walton family as I navigated the last years of high school, leaving home for college and work to begin life on my own in CA, and feeling grateful that I now lived in an area of NC that was very close to the dream I'd always had of someday being on Walton's Mountain. This was a lovely explanation of the history of a family and program that captured several generations in many ways and still holds our minds and emotions.

I was born in 1963 and grew up watching the Walton’s every week for the years the series ran. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, as I grew older and experienced watching the Walton’s many years later, the series touched my heart and life in countless ways. Indeed, the tv show was real life experiences from within the home and out in the community. Now… today, here some 50 years later, I have profound memories of each specific show and the cast members - Grandpa & Grandma, John & Olivia and each of the 7 kids. Age wise, I grow up and was the same ago falling in the middle of the 7 kids. My favorites of the kids was John-boy of course, Mary Ellen, Jim Bob and Elizabeth. Today, when watching a rerun of an episode, I find great comfort in it. It takes me back to a place of my early youth and could identify with the kids as I had two brothers and two sisters. All said, though a couple of my friends have laughed and joked with me about watching this tv show from the 70’s and liking it very much. Again, I found so much comfort in watching the Walton’s and still do today in 2024. I must say that Earl Hamner did an excellent job with this series. It’s brought so much pleasure and comfort to the viewer. My hat off to Mr. Hamner. Brilliant work.

All the values they exude as in the mother and father Hamner come from the Bible. They exemplified the Golden Rule and taught those values to their children, Earl and his siblings. That is what people have fallen in love with. The other people in the community had the same values which stem from being a follower of Jesus Christ. You can have that to by asking Jesus into your heart today. God bless you. Thank you for this video and the Hamner family, especially Earl, and the town's people of Skyler.

And imagine having a great set of grandparents to love and learn from right there with you. I was only 11 and 12 years old when I lost all four of my grandparents within 12 months...my Texas grandparents and my Illinois grandparents. How I wish I could have known all of my grandparents better....they were in their 60’s and mid-70’s when I was born. Living close to your family is so much more important than most young people today realize.

What made The waltons so good was it just showed that nothing is impossible when a family support each other no matter how difficult sticks together stands together cares about each that's something money can't buy not enough gold and the world to buy that it's what's sadly lacking today that's why it's so much violence because there's no moral fiber today to everybody's out to beat someone but they all grew up to be successful because I'm a strong family unity are good moral fiber they were taught honesty and values today they're afraid to put a show like that on that's what television needs today strong religious family values

The Walton's Legacy is very good and informative.

I had history in Virginia being born in Roanoke and my parents live in Blue Ridge. I only experienced a part of what The Waltons had because my father joined the Navy and we went away from our family and hometown when I was only four. However, so many good memories of my grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles and cousins when we would come back to visit during holidays or summer when school was out. Unfortunately so many of them are gone now, But their legacy lives on in my heart despite the miles that disconnected us physically.

I loved this show when it was first run and still love it. I watch it any time I see that it is on.

When I watch the waltons I'm reminded when the young social media influencers state today's young generation has it harder then any other generation before them, I think about the episode where John Boy is graduating and going to college and grandma wants to buy him a pair of pants because he only owns one pair or when the whole family had to go pick apples just for some pocket change, a show like this should be shown to all young people. The past was not easy but people still found the ability to be compasionate

My Dad and Mom survived the depression. They would have considered families living like the Waltons wealthy .
@ladyagnes77814 жыл бұрын
My parents live through the depression in a bug city. My mother said that it was very hard in the cities (& the Dust Bowl region), but things were actually better in the country. She said when you got milk because your cow ate the grass, & veggies because you had some land to grow them, there was less if a strain to feed the family. Also, with cash money hard to come by( though folks lost the house for non-payment if mortgage or taxes on the mountain) the barter economy that was common on the mountain(& in many small communities) made it easier to survive the depression.

My parents were children during the depression..our Mama told us, the Waltons were rich compared to them.

I always thought that the show was unrealistic when it came to the Great Depression. They had electricity, decent clothing and nice house. The fictional veggie garden was tiny for even one person. Of course it was all filmed indoors.

Because they owned land... Also, the story Starts during the depression, but it went on for over eight seasons.

Why don't you bring Tillman's store back, fix it up or build it up again. If I could afford it I would do that, maybe the town would help you build it up and create a small store, I hate to see places of memory to go away
