Wow Rich,same age as me, 63, I was in junior high school but in the other side of the world, Chile. We had a rock band and BTO was among the bands we cover here. This song was one we used to play, it was simple as many others, drums, bass guitar and two electric guitars and we made great music!!

@DHudelson6 жыл бұрын
He played more rhythm guitar onstage, back when the only other guitar in the Guess Who was Bachman (I do think Randy laid down most or all of the guitars on the records) . When Bachman was replaced by Kurt Winter and Greg Leskiw, Cummings generally only played guitar on their typical closing song, "No Time".

It's kind of interesting to think this could have been a Guess Who song had Randy stayed with the band in the 70's - although Randy probably would not have been the singer. I think the Guess Who would have been even bigger than they ever got (especially in the States) when you factor in some of the songs Bachman wrote with BTO that the Guess Who could have done.

Burton is one the best keyboard players I've ever heard, along with one of the best guitarist's in the world, what a class act with a long line of great rock & roll hits.... They should have been in the Rock & Roll HOF way before NWA or Dr Dre & their rap shit...

Totally agree... Plus I heard Robbie Robertson and Paul Shaffer are part of the '20 odd people that are on voting panel are in getting people elected into the Hall of Fame. not really a point that I'm trying to make with that just curious that they would be voting in these other fellows that you speak of yet they are fellow Canadians who I would think would be well aware of The Guess who ..as well as Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings as solo artists deserving to be in the Rock n roll Hall of fame
@montydaniels10542 жыл бұрын
@@richeneflowease3622 I'm a fan of The Guess Who, BTO, either in solo careers or in bands, those guys should have been in the R&RHOF decades ago. Never heard that about Robbie Robertson. Shaffer I figured had something to do with it. He's always in backups with a lot of the bands & solo artists. I stopped watching it every year after Steve Miller made the remarks after the ceremonies & then seeing Tom Hanks name all over the place, I just said the hell with it. I've complained on a few podcasts that the R&RHOF put on KZbin. And I wouldn't be surprised if they deleted my comments. I was voicing my opinion about who gets in & who doesn't. I mean it's not fair that Neil Young got in like 3 times but The Guess Who still haven't. It's certainly not fair for the Canadian Bands. One thing though, their thick skinned and don't whine about it. Probably because of the Canadian R&RHOF....

Yeah I just love how Burton changed up the story years after his original intention... Back when he recorded it they were not on speaking terms as I recall it. I mean come on, anyone who heard this track has Burton recorded it years ago knows damn well It was the most beautiful snarky commentary on vapid lyrics and that's what it was all about. ... Of course, once they reunited and began performing again, This had to be reconciled and so this alternate rationale had to be constructed. My understanding is that back when it was originally released, Burton's version, Randy did not take to it well at all... And why would he. It was not intended to be complimentary. ... But okay, for commercial and other camaraderie reasons when they reunited they've worked it into their show, and just like any tall tale or lie you repeat often enough, you can get people to believe that there was never any ill intent behind Burton's brilliant satire on Randy's amazing lyrics. Come on people let's not be naive! But more power to Randy for his good sense of humor.
@DHudelson2 жыл бұрын
nah... I remember interviews at the time, and BC's cover helped bring about their reconciliation, in fact. Randy then played quite a bit on Burton's next couple albums. Randy, Mr. Looking Out for #1, would have been totally thrilled at collecting the royalties from the cover. The treatment definitely does poke fun at RB's stuttering delivery, but Randy thought it was funny... and again, royaltie$$....
