MZ now that takes me back a few years. Bought a 250 from a friend the engine was stripped and in a box. He took it apart because it just stopped one day and he couldn't get it running. Rebuilt the engine found the problem, one new coil later I had myself a great little bike for my trips to and from work all year round. He was gutted that I wouldn't sell it back to him.

I have one exactly like this but it's new and unused, not even registered!! Acquired on ebay, around 20 years ago, from a dealer who was retiring so selling off all his surplus bikes from over 50 years in the trade. I wish I'd also bought a new and unregistered CZ 250 twin, missing a few parts but he reckoned he could probably find these in his stash of parts! Missed opportunity there! The MZ was £350, and there was only one other bidder, so an absolute steal! I'm thinking about registering it and getting it on the road, problem is, it's only new and unused once! Being over 40 years old though, it's exempt from the dreaded road tax and mot, so that's an incentive.

Beware. If you register it now it will have a contemporary registration and not an age related one. So you'll be in for tax, MOT and also any emission charges that may accrue where you live. I'd consider just keeping it as an ornament, unless you don't mind waiting anothe r40 years for it to be excempt?

@@mslattery8710 It is over 40 years old so is in fact eligible for a period registration, and therefore could be registered as an historic vehicle and thus exempt from tax and mot. As yet though, I'm undecided whether to go ahead with this, the temptation to ride it is very strong though!!

The MZ engineer/scientist the video mentioned at the start was Walter Kaden. He worked on the V1 during the war and was invited to join his friend Werner von Braun at NASA [ He was the one who built the Saturn Five moon rocket] after the war but prefered to stay in his home town of Zhopau in East Germany, In the early 60's he made MZ into a successful GP[ team due to his work on two stoke technology. However one of his riders ,Ernst Degner, defected and sold all his secrets to Suzuki and Yamaha
