Ah, straight off the bat Harry 'eye protection' for them nasty pine branches. That's a nice bit of kit. Gotta say I do like my Mark 2 Crusader - they are sturdy stoves. Thanks for sharing. A great unload. Mark

Thanks Mark, yes, I also like the m2 stove but have a serious love for the solid profile of the mark 1 also which fits into mist pouches. Atb Harry

Thanks Helen and girls, nice comment as ever. Longing to get out to do a Bergman Alaska style scouting day, life and occupation and lack of mojo is always in the way 🤣🤣🤣 so ill remain a fantasist for just a little longer until the ground dries and freezes. Nice to see you again Harry! Very well packed. I'm now looking forward to Saturday, when I'll go on a moorland hike and with a bit of luck, there'll also be some snow. At the moment it is very stormy and it is raining. Many kind regards from the north of Germany Viola

Have you tried the ones with 'balls' (if you excuse the expression), you can get them pretty cheap, designed to go through eyelets but I just loop them round the tie outs, you can get them pretty cheap from the usual sources.

@@deeps2761 no I haven't.can I get them on eBay
@deeps2761 Жыл бұрын
@@Yorkshireoutoorsandsurvival Yes mate, ebay, temu etc have them cheap, great for pulling your tarp tight when pegging them in. I kind of ignore the wee balls. They're much smaller than the 'bungies' you mentioned which have their place, especially if its blowy they can give a bit of stretch in a line supporting tarps. Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.

Thanks for sharing what you carry, Harry! It's always interesting to see what folk prioritize. I carry a ridiculously heavy load, but I like my 'creature comforts.'

I'm the same whether its a wee trip to the woods or a wander up the hills to a bothy, I'd rather go slower and take in those little luxuries like good scran and booze. Whatever works for us though eh ?

G'day Harry, it's always interesting to see what other people carry, and in some cases I get inspired to customize my own gear. I agree with the importance of storing things in a specific place so you can reach them blindly. Tfs, CU Hans.
@FlyingHaggisFilms Жыл бұрын
Hi Hans. A person of your experience I expect will have everything in correct place and priority. Hope you are well and are getting out a little and generating some fun now the election is over. 🤐

@@FlyingHaggisFilms Staying organized in a barrel is quite a challenge😅 Elections ...., not my cuppa tea mate (but have used my rights). Better to spend time in having fun. Perhaps I'll make a similar vid of how I try to stay organized on my canoe trips. Hmmm, I think you've inspired me. Tks Harry!

Having spent 24 years in the British army I do appreciate the value of military kit but people should always remember that squadies only use bits and bobs of the kit they are issued, if they have a choice. People need to consider that 'military grade' just means the cheapest that that the government could get that just about does the job. Most soldiers supplement their kit with nicer, lightweight 'gucci' gear. That being said, the NI pack is a nice bit of kit.
@FlyingHaggisFilms Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian, a fair comment. As a civillian with army connections I too have come to realise the validity of all you say. Personally, whilst aware of the weighty and non practicality of some military kit I do love the robust and durable quality surplus offers. All the very best to you. Harry

all tried and tested kit, ... looks like a good patrol pack for days out, my only advice ... would be to put in a high vis waterproof pack cover, Or a bright dry bag you could use as a signal marker just in case you sustained a leg injury out in the wilds, (or if you encountered anybody needing help and wanted to mark their position for search are rescue)
@FlyingHaggisFilms Жыл бұрын
Good advice, when I am sneaking about I aim to be invisible and carry my emergency phone, location share with my wife, but on a three day spring outing I would take my Hi viz patch. Atb. Harry

I use something similar but mine was “found” and was from the SBS but I unzip the side pouches most of the time unless I want to do more than a 72 hour travel

Nice video .may I ask what size is the ni pack I have one and was told 38 but it seems bigger .what is the extra pocket on the back ? Di you strap sleeping bag to bottom
@FlyingHaggisFilms13 күн бұрын
@@antonybuckley2645 Hi Antony, yes I understand the NI to be 35 litres approx, used it for 3 day patrol pack with light summer sleep bag, bivi , tarp and inflatable small mat stuffed into centre, food kit rations in side, waterproofs head gear gloves in lid, weighed in at 12kl, strapping a winter bag underneath would make it too heavy I imagine, 15kl straps not designed for such weight. Hard on shoulders. I’d use my 120 litre Bergen for non summer kit. Extra pocket on back medical pouch hard to find. Harry

@@xix94 probably unlikely bud. I can only squeeze summer bag, taro and bivi then rstions in side pouches at a push for its really a day patrol pack. I've wondered about a big sleep bag strapped underneath but that's pushing it. The vukingbpatril pack might just work but REALLY, A BERGEN IS NEDED FOR ALL SEASON KIT I GUESS.
