Even in the rarified world of virtuoso violinists, her bow technique is extraordinary. She is playing the original bowing used by Paganini when he performed this. If you watch the video closely, you can she she's doing three quick downward strokes followed by 1 upward stroke (3+1). Most professional violinists play 2+2 or 1+1 which is quite a bit less difficult.

Sustained high complexity mechanical tasks require the mind to completely focus on buffering chunked down segments of the performance, whether consciously or not. The performers actual conscious thoughts are pretty much blacked out in pure flow state bliss. It's a ridiculously fulfilling feeling.

It's actually pretty easy to figure out. Play a rhythm game. Just any of them. Even when you're really bad at it, you'll get to a level of skill in a couple months where you are good enough to push through songs that are hard for you semi-competently. If you get even better, you can figure out how it feels when those "hard" songs become ridiculously easy. That's about the same experience, though obviously pretty different.

@@starlightsall I typed each one new, and only typed 2 times as replies only, if I recall correctly. I didn't insult her. What is impressive is her being able to do this from a vilonist's standpoint. But that is because violinists can't do what she can, so it is impressive. We are talking winning talent shows. You need the sound to be impressive, not just doing what other violinists struggle to do. Let's agree that she is amazing, ray chen's version is a few points above. I'm not ray chen fan, but I feel like the difference is so huge I need to point it out.

No, not realyy. Have a good bow and do not interfere with it and it does exactly this kind of bouncing. Main problem is the coordination between left and right hand and s *_really totally relaxed bow grip and right arm_* and leave the rest to the bow. Of course you must practice that beast slowly, relaxed and withot the feeling, that it is dfficult. If you havepracticed your scales and broken chords and bowing execises thoroughly you should be able to have it in a few weeks near to the speed of Sumina Studer. Don't be afraid of the immense number of sharps and flats, the middle part consists almost exclusive of Triads, dominant seventh chords and diminished seventh chords and, hold your breathe - two different chromatic scales, all with permanently changing bass notes.

I am honestly without words. The display of in my opinion, such a wide spectrum of emotion translated though a single instrument within three minutes is astonishing. The way this woman achieves that through not only her skill and performance, but through the selection of venue with its aesthetics and acoustics, only shows that, not only can she understand music to the greatest degree, but that through her performance, also understands and complements Paganini for his extreme desire and aptitude to communicate such emotion. Brilliant performance.

This is ridiculously great. Michael Rabin's version has always been my favorite, but there are parts of this that even top that. Her phrasing is unique. I've never heard it played that way before. Many of the top performers, being afraid to be seen to make mistakes, play this at breakneck speed but with separate bows.....of course the audiences think they are wonderful because to many, speed is everything. But this bowing used here is difficult to control as the intonation and clarity of execution are paramount to the meaning of the music, which can really only be understood by the player.....it is after all a study.

I’ve listened to other great violinists tackle this piece and thus far Sumina is THE Standard. Itzak Perlman, Shlomo Mintz and others: all do well, ranging from 92% to 98% but this rendition by Miss Studer is a SOLID 100%. Others seem like they’re rushing through the piece or their phrasing and interpretation is either cookie-cutter or too finessed. Also the clarity is mind-blowing. No one else that I’ve heard can quite match this level or brilliance.

Bro I agree. The room and violin are obviously 100%, but this kid plays it. I love Heifetz but this recording is flawless.

Well, 11yo prodigy would probably still be unpolished. Even for this piece, I have to say Ray Chen's 19yo version sounds more impressive than her 19yo version to me though.

A stunning performance by the consummate musician David Garrett, the Prince of the magic tool violin, the delightful composition of «Adajio». A luxurious romantic melody, with a brilliant, amazing virtuoso treatment of David, with a very delicate, beautiful and emotional playing, the violin in the hands of David bewitches with such elegance, temperament, passion, with filigree technique. What a fantastic melody = light, pure, beautiful, tenderness and sadness is impossible to listen to without tears. What a masterpiece maestro David Garrett created from the composition Niccolo Paganini «Io Ti Penso Amore» in a delightful virtuoso arrangement by «Adajio»!!! Delight impossible be expressed in words that you are a miracle, and only the Creator can create such perfection!!! 🎻🎶🌹

Everyone I have ever seen plays this at one speed. Her lovely phrasing, which causes her to change speeds often with the bow flying, shows her astounding control. That bow bounces in perfect sync with her fingers.

I imagine that only a handful of violinists have ever played this composition with such perfect pitch and technique at tempo. And 19?!? Technical mastery: done. Next up: A lifetime of finding and growing voice - which, in a way, is even harder. It takes a second or two to hear Isthak Perlman or Keith Richards. I'm looking forward to hearing Sumina's unique voice in the future.
