The tone is very nice, but it lacks core. There is almost always too much air in the tone, and it lacks variation. Sometimes, it's necessary to dig into the string more. Augustin also tends to use a very light bow, but the difference is that he knows how to dig into the string when it’s musically necessary. He brings such wonderful variation and imagination to his playing. When listening to Kogan’s interpretation, you hear a very full and, at times, rich sound. Paganini was also a showman, and Mr. Feng’s rendition doesn’t have any truly jaw-dropping moments, which I believe are essential in a Paganini performance. It should be exciting and thrilling to listen to.
