Nürburgring - Sub 9min BTG - 120hp Mk2 Golf GTI 8v

The fastest run of my 2023 trip. Chuffed to get the wee 8v below a 9 min lap. Annoyingly I always seemed to get traffic in the worst places for a low powered car, where a drop of 1 or 2mph at the bottom of a hill can mean a drop of 10mph at the top!
Realistically I think the car has an 8:40/8:45 in its current set up, on a clear run. But thats the beauty of TF, it's a battle of weather, traffic and yellow flags.

What are you running for suspension, brakes and tires?

KW V3’s, custom made roll centre and bump steer correction, solid top mounts with added -caster. Brakes are 280mm G60s, single pot calipers, ds3000 pads, tarox strada rears Tyres are Nankang AR1 - 205/50/15 👍🏼

Do you notice a big difference in grip with the 205 compared to the 195?

Great question. I was previously running ns2r’s in a 195 but i did used to run ar1s in a 195, so i dont have a direct back to back comparison. But in short, yes a huge difference!! the front end grip is incredible. The only down side being its made the steering even heavier, which is fine 90% of the time but when you get into a slide and need some oppo lock its then you realise how much harder it is to correct. Nothing crazy, but something to note!

Amazing lap mate, just wondering what kind of toe and camber you run? Heading out there later this year in my 16v MK2 but don't want to obliterate the AR1s too soon😅

Thanks mate. Front camber was around -2.8 and toe was 0.1 toe out on the front 👍🏼 hope that helps

Unfortunately that wont happen… as much as I like his videos and enjoy the content, I don’t think hes a particularly good driver, he seems very numb behind the wheel and takes too much risk in other peoples cars.
