It really doesn't make sense why they didn't. Maybe it was all the cheesy, bad groups that made the more uneducated, ignorant people think *NSYNC were the same. When lyrically, vocally and sonically they were number 1. They were too ahead of their time, don't forget the choreography either. They were an idol group fused with an a capella five part vocal harmony group. Now you get a Grammy for your pop culture impact alone, which *NSYNC also had.

Tinker B I agree that Joey should have been third lead. But Joey lost his chance because he left his "cuteness" behind. At the time, he gained some weight, and he had a beard-he looked the grown man he was. JT and JC kept themselves clean shaven with light stubble (if sporting it). That allowed them to be more marketable in terms of appearance since a majority of fans were young girls. It's a dirty business where pure and honest talent is overlooked because of appearances.

This is the first time I've heard the sound engineers properly balance all the vocal parts for NSYNC. They usually make Chris' or JC's mic too loud during the pure a capella parts. It ends up drowning or Joey who I usually can't hear well. Can't leave a comment without praising the legend JC of course. Greatest tragedy in the history of music that he hasn't put out another album.
