Biman Bangladesh B777-300/ER London to Dhaka (Trip Report Part 1)

Follow me on a colourful journey from London to Bangladesh on-board Biman Bangladesh Airlines B777-300/ER. This is their flagship route from London to Dhaka with an immediate stop in Sylhet.
During this trip report video, I will show you both Business Class and Economy Class service and seating. Watch out of many fun Interactions with many Bangladeshi passengers and crew!
This is the first part of 2 mega vlogs. Stay tuned for the next episode where I was given a tour at Biman Catering Center and hangar. I took 4 lucky winners and first time flyers to fly Biman Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

From one bustling metropolis to another by air - immerse yourself in an exhilarating flight from London to Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, on board the Boeing 777-300ER with the national flag carrier of Bangladesh, Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
We go via the Bangladeshi city of Sylhet, making use of Osmani International Airport, the third largest airport in Bangladesh after those in the cities of Dhaka and Chittagong. Our flight is delayed in taking off by a few hours but that gives us all the more time to experience the executive Plaza premium lounge!
On board, we examine the economy and business classes of Biman and enjoy the personal and delicate hospitality provided by Biman Airlines air crew. Due to the currently closed Pakistani air-space, this flight took a few hours longer than normal but this delay also works to our advantage, giving us more time to savour the famous and exquisite Biman Air curry and enjoy a well earned nap as we look at the sleeping arrangements on board Biman.
Whilst Biman operates internal flights between Sylhet and Dhaka which arrive from major international destinations such as London and Abu Dhabi, interestingly it is currently impossible to take a direct flight from Sylhet to an international destination; one must go through Dhaka first. This apparent contradiction is caused by the runways at Osmani International not being adapted for heavier aeroplanes to take off from and is set to be rectified within two years in a 63 million US dollar upgrade project.
Biman comes from humble roots, having been founded in 1972 as a government owned entity and initially only operating internal flights between Dhaka, Chittagong, Jessore and Sylhet using a single Douglas DC-3 aeroplane borrowed from India. It enjoyed a monopoly on air travel within Bangladesh until the dawn of competition in 1996 and was privatised in 2007. Since then, it has signed deals with Boeing for several new aircraft, including the Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and has greatly increased the scope and quality of its on board amenities, investing heavily to bring internet, telephone and television services on board its new Boeing aeroplanes.

In the middle 80' i went to Bangkok from Rome in Italy, via Dubai and Dhakka with Biman. Almost two days to reach Bangkok but I remember nice , polite, and beautiful people of Bangladesh. The aircraft was a Boeing 707 and we could smoke and drink beer. Thanks for your videos Mr. Chui and dont stop. Greetings from Naples, Italy.

I travelled in a Biman Fokker 28 from Dhaka to Kolkata on January 2008. Biman was really in a really pitiable condition then, struggling to keep maintain its network with the aging Fokker and DC-10s. We were served Muri and Chop (Puffed Rice accompanied by vegetables and meat fried in a batter) in a thonga (A funnel shaped container usually made out of an old newspaper). Now the thing is that the aforementioned snack is served and the serving technique is used only by cheap streetfood vendors of Bengal, and it is absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing to find such in the in-flight meal of a national airline. Years have passed, and I see Biman Has a improved a lot, but in terms of it's aircraft fleet and passenger services.

As one of your more skeptical followers, I really just have to say how much I was so deeply touched by this trip report. Biman Bangladesh doesn't have half the glitz and glamour of a Qatar Airways or Singapore Airlines, but what really stood out was the amount of heart and sincerity, both from the crew as well as the passengers. You could tell that there was nothing fake or staged either, just a genuine love of flying and pride in one's national airline. Kudos to the Bangladeshi people! I was also thinking to myself, out of all the aviation vloggers out there, Sam Chui has by far the best access and does a really good job of bringing out the best in people during his interviews. I used to get on his case for being too "commercial", but his trip reports have a lot more heart than most other vloggers.

I am really glad you were not too harsh on Biman Bangladesh, like you said they are not a 5* airline, but I am sure staff/crews do their best with what they are given. Like you I loved the way they helped the elderly pax, being an ex Flight Attendant it was great to see, it may seem a small gesture but it is something that all airline crews should try and do. Biman Bangladesh Airlines despite being a state-owned business has not and do not provide service to anywhere near to its existing capacity. Yes, Bengali language and culture has lot of similarities with Nepali. The earliest extant/surviving written Bengali text Charjyapada (almost a thousand year old) was found in the Nepali royal library in 1907 by the Bengali scholar Haraprasad Shastri. Those who say that Bengali culture has no similarities with Nepali or any other Indian language or culture are simply blind ignorant illiterate bigoted fools. These people have absolutely no knowledge of the history of Bengali language or culture!! This is not a place to give a lecture on the history of Bengali culture, but the bottom line is - many of the languages and cultures of this region are actually sister languages and cultures with common ancestry!!! Biman definitely stepped up in the aviation game. It was supposed to be one of the ugliest and unsafe airlines. But after changing the fleet, it improved the culture and definitely improved quality as well. For 777 with 3-3-3 economy is quite generous and customer satisfactory formation. Most of the airlines choose 3-4-3 formation and it's so terrible. Good job Biman. Maintain the quality and customer service, please. You'll definitely see more profits. Increase the destinations and fleet number. Thanks to @sam Chui as well.

Wow ! Its amazing to see my country's carrier flying directly from London to Sylhet. Hopefully next time I can enjoy the Boeing 777 at least from Sylhet to Dhaka. It gives me additional pleasure as I am from Sylhet region. I will be highly glad if Biman connect Shamshernagor to Dhaka, which is a emerging hub of tourism. Thank you very much Sam Chui.
