I'm not on OSX anymore, for personal reasons, but I must admitt that what you did with your app is so useful, it deserves so much more be known ! many people should use it, because it's way more simple and user friendly than the usual midi controllers ; thank you for what you bring for the community :)

I was just thinking about buying an MPE controller but I only need it for very specific uses. I don’t want to upgrade from my push 2 to push 3 and don’t want to spend big bucks on more hardware. Thanks - I’ll be using my iPad for this and I’m sure I’ll be fine (and if it should get on my nerves I might try sth like the Joué)

With the USB method you can also use the device as an audio input. I sample this way from KZbin all the time or from iOS synths I have on the iPad like moogmodel15

Is it possible to hook your ipad up to your mac (hardwired via the USB to lightning cable) to use as a midi controller , but also somehow hook up an audio interface to get both midi and your guitar direct into the Mac computer?
@polarnj4 жыл бұрын
Mighty Boognish yea absolutely. You can use the lighting to usb IDAM approach from the video to get the midi and audio from ur iOS device, regarding the guitar, what I actually do is use Midi Guitar 2 (amazing app) as well as some other guitar based ex and tools using AUM-Audiobus 3 on my iPad, i connect the guitar in the approach by using an Ik multimedia irig (u can get them for $7 on amazon) so I’m able to run my guitar through the iPad through the headphone out jack, and the sound goes into the Mac through the IDAM w the lightning cable... Also you can use your audio interface (Ex I’m using a focusrite 816) to connect your guitar, mic etc and than run it as Audio input as usual while the same thing happens for the iPad. I Think I know where ur prob having the issue now that I had a min to think about it and u prob need to go into the Audio/Midi Settings on the mac and make an “aggregate device” just by hitting the + button and clicking the option, inside there you will be able to put both ur audio interfere AND iPad into a single system. Next in Ableton, goto audio input in prefs and click the aggregate device U made so u can have both iPad as well as the audio interface connected and make sure u know the channel number ur iPad and Interface contain (u can see this info in the place u Made the aggregate device). Hope this helps! I’m a bit fan of using Ableton and many controllers, as well as my iPad etc and a guitar and mic to live loop as well as use my guitar as a midi controller (I can easily change this using a blueboard midi foot pedal). It’s a blast to play this setup but took me forever to route it correctly and finally find a setup that works for me so I’m happy to help if I seem to be of any use to what ur trying to do. Cheers and good luck!

Get StudioMux. It enables MIDI and multichannel digital audio over Lightning->USB via a combination of a background iOS app, a connecting service in Windows, and StudioMux VSTs that you drop into your DAW to choose which running iOS apps to pull data from. It's also compatible with Mac. It's a more complex solution but also a more complete solution. StudioMux has really given iOS music apps the ability to be integrated with your desktop DAW, elevating those apps from mere toy status. zerodebug.com/studiomux.php

@@RhombusLabs hi, by the way would you have any hint on how to adapt this idea from an Android to PC interface?
@RhombusLabs6 жыл бұрын
All I know about Android, recent versions, is that when you connect to a computer a menu shows on the phone that allows you to switch to USB storage mode and MIDI mode. I don't know of a StudioMux-like solution that gives you multichannel audio though. Sorry.

Looks easy enough on Mac OSX. Not so easy on PC. Not found a way to connect my USB-C iPad Air to PC for MIDI i/o. Used to do over Wi-Fi, but this is no longer working. Not been able to work out why! Used to have an IK Multimedia iOS MIDI interface, which worked perfectly. But that's going back a bit. Was the old 30-pin iOS connector. Since moved to Lightning and now USB-C. So a bit stuck! Hopefully someone will make a simple USB-C iOS MIDI interface soon ;-)

Your app is great. In addition to that I wonder if there is an app which let you use the motion sensors of the iphone. So if you move the phone around it will just output midi data which you can assign to what ever parameter you want. Does anyone have an idea?
@onceuponasynth6 жыл бұрын
Funny you say that, I actually thought of the same idea a while back lol. I just thought it would be a bit gimmick-y (like roland d-beam lol) so I never built it. But maybe I'll make an app like this, should be pretty simple.
