My kind of video; no music and just the sound of the motor. The placement of the camera behind the pilot makes me feel like I'm right there. Thank you for sharing.

How is the heating system in a Velocity? I see that the Velocity company has an electric heater option for the planes.

Do you have autopilot or was it that smooth that day you could trim it to fly straight and level? What was your fuel burn? What was your panel makeup? Thanks in advance.
@n6408s4 жыл бұрын
Both. I have an AP and it was very smooth that day. The first part of the flight was a TAS check. For that I used the AP during the four course run. The rest of the flight was had flown. Once trimmed, I can take my hands off the controls. Fuel burn depends on LOP or ROP. on this flight I was probably ROP and burning around 14GPH. For avionics/instrumentation I have a pair of Grand Rapids HXr's, dual VAL COM2K com radios, a VAL NAV2K nav radio, PS engineering PAC15EX audio panel, Trig TT22 transponder and a Garmin GTN625 GPS.

I didn't realize that a pusher plane would be this loud. Question for you: do you have to balance the aircraft with sandbags or ballasts for 1 person as oppose to 2 person flying? I ask because you have to do that for a Cozy.
@n6408s4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, there's no interior. That makes a HUGE difference. No lateral ballast required. I've flown with just myself and a 10 gallon (more in the left tank) fuel imbalance with nothing but a bit of aileron trim.

What was the high pitched 'alarm' sound about 1/2 way in video indicating?
@n6408s4 жыл бұрын
Gear warning. When the throttle is pulled back past 10" MAP and the gear isn't down, the warning activates.

Why do so many Velocity airplanes have the front wheel shimmy? That needs to get resolved.
@n6408s4 жыл бұрын
There was no nose gear shimmy on this flight. Or are you speaking generally?
@robertd44684 жыл бұрын
Don Johnston I thought I heard it on landing. Perhaps I was mistaken
@n6408s4 жыл бұрын
@@robertd4468 I held the nose off a little too long and it dropped when the canard stalled and hit a little hard. Is that what you were referring to?
@robertd44684 жыл бұрын
Don Johnston Yes, it sounded like shimmy to me. I know lots of RV’s suffer from that as well. I’ve heard Velocities do as well. Just about anything with a castering nose wheel can have that problem. I’ve heard that a lot of Velocities have this issue and that it hasn’t been resolved although per your previous comment, the dampener helps. If I could build a plane it would definitely be the Velocity. It’s the most intriguing design out there. University of North Dakota Aerospace grad in 2000.

Any wheel that is set to free swivel will have a shimmy, tail wheels even.

at the bottom, is that TAS? Even if it's TAS, 206 TAS at 6000 feet is really fast, like 185 IAS. How high can that IO550 go? 15,000 ft?
@n6408s4 жыл бұрын
No, it’s groundspeed. TAS is around 200 it’s. The service ceiling is 18,000’. But the sweet spot is 5,000’ to 8,000’.

How do you like the "in ear" style headsets? Does it block enough sound? Im building a velo and I hate having headsets on if I can avoid it but figured cockpit was too loud for in ear style
@n6408s5 жыл бұрын
I've had mine for almost 10 years. Started flying with them in my 182RG and then in the Velocity. The noise reduction is different than with Bose or Lightspeed Zulu's. Not much better or worse, just different. At 6'5", even with a drastically modified seat in the Velocity, I just don't have much headroom so the Halo's are a necessity. When I was doing my transition training, I noticed John Abraham had a set also. And he probably has more Velocity time than anyone. So that's gotta mean something. ;-)
