I would agree! I think going with the classic charcoal with the ideal choice for this mod and console. I have been really enjoying playing the 64 with all these mods as well. While recording footage for this, I spent way too much time playing it and even my wife overhead the Diddy Kong Racing music and had to come race a few laps!

Soldering of that FFC cable is recomended to butt it up against the very end if the legs on the chip rather than halfway up the leg. This ensures the cable is attaching at a flat and level surface and reduces the likelihood over overheating and damaging the legs. Plus as an added bonus, it puts the part that attaches to the capacitors closer to the general area. But hey, as long as it works, then it's all good.

I prefer Voultars method of installing the FFC, by butting it up against the edge of the legs, rather than placing it in the middle of the legs. Using it as a guide made it rather simple for me, a novice at soldering, to install. My biggest issue was soldering to the PIF, since my revision requires that it connects to one of the vias rather than the chip leg itself. I ended up using a leg from the Blue LED I installed in the via, then connected the FFC to that.
@RockerGaming4 жыл бұрын
That is a great way to do the install on the PIF, I ran into a few that I had to do exactly as you did. It actually works pretty well!! Glad to hear Voultars method worked! I have been doing it this way for a long time, but I am familiar with that method and it works quite well!!

Thank you for your amazing work, I have both ultrahdmi and rgb modded n64 with deblur , I think the rgb mod is more convenient specially if you pair it with OSSC 1.6 using the new oled panels from lg or sony. ( only 12 ms input lag on screen, CRTS have 8ms) on UltraHDMI i get about 18ms lag, Im not sure if others get the same since the measuring method varies. Ultrahdmi is slightly sharper, but barley noticeable. but with 18ms lag, id always go RGB ---> OSSC 1.6

Yes very possible. Just wire the the BT controller to the rumble motor as it runs off the 5v line. From there you should be able to run RGB leds to the BT controller. As for adjusting brightness you can do that from the app that works with the BT led controller

It'll be fine. Those led strips use 3m adhesive normally which is not as good as hot glue in my experience.

I wonder how many n64s have been bricked, like mine, from not explaining to people where to get 5v from on the PCB. Even if you dig through the comments in both this video and the more general rgb led mod video, all you can find is "from the voltage regulator". Yeah well, where is that? Someone expressed concerns in the comments of one of these videos about accidentally frying the AV multiout by trying to get 5V from there and I think that's exactly what I somehow did.

not a fair comparison as you turned on deblur for hdmi and kept the blurred image for RGB. Should've used Tim Worthington's N64RGB board, it does deblur too!

Its a fair enough comparison. While ultrahdmi mods are impossible to find these days when that video was made the deblur options were not as readily available. To me it shows rgb + framemeister is a great choice and nearly the same as ultrahdmi

Great video. I was curious on your thoughts of the PS Classic announced as well as the inevitable N64 Classic announcement that should follow shortly in the coming weeks?
@RockerGaming5 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir! Well, without getting super into the details, I am excited about both. I personally think the N64 classic currently has a leg up as Nintendo has proved, through the NES Classic, SNES Classic and now NES on Switch that they are damn good at emulation. Having said that, Sony has proved to be able to emulate PS1 well on the PS3 and PS4, but that hardware is much more robust than what I would expect with a classic system. They will both be day 1 purchases for me, but if I had to buy 1 and wait on the other I would buy the 64 and wait to see how the emulation is on the PS1. My answer here is solely based up on Nintendo's excellent SNES and NES emulation and proven track record with those classic systems. My guess is there is no way Sony screws it up though and both will be excellent!!
