Why not make enough for all of us no one has explained this if these work then why not mass produce again asking out of real curiosity 🤷🏿♀️
@thumper96334 жыл бұрын
@@sirenthomas4595 They are mass producing and in a month or two we should see much better availability of things like masks and sanitizer. That doesn't help us now, but I'll explain how we got here so people like you and I can do something about it (hold our leaders accountable) after this crisis and before the next one. The U.S. government used to keep a much larger stockpile for emergencies such as this. Unfortunately, and despite the fact that experts have been warning of an epidemic just like this one for decades, our government reduced those stockpiles over time to cut costs. Our system of manufacturing, inventory, and distribution is called "just-in-time" which means manufacturers generally keep only enough raw materials on hand, and only manufacture items, to supply regular demand. Combine that with the government not maintaining stockpiles of crucial supplies, and you have extreme shortages when a disaster of this magnitude happens. Right now they are switching gears and making as much as they can, but it will take a while to catch up. But consider this, much of the raw materials needed to make some of these products come from other countries, to include China. So if those countries have their own shortages, or if they want to weaken our economy (which also weakens our military capability), and either can't or won't ship what we need, then we have another problem to deal with. So when this is all over, start lobbying your state representatives to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. and to ensure adequate emergency stockpiles in the future. And if they won't, vote for someone who will. Good luck, be safe.

N95 is a rating that refers to the filtration (the minimum efficiency level of filtration for N95 is 95% upwards, so it's very good). As long as the mask has N95 rated filtration and it's worn properly (don't touch outside of mask after leaving home, disinfect hands and surfaces it touches when you take it off, ensure no gaps to the outside) then it should help lessen the chances of catching this new coronavirus. It's best also to wear gloves and/or carry 70% alcohol hand sanitizer, and cover your eyes and hair (wear a hat and goggles ideally, but if not, glasses are better than nothing) and maintain good hygiene (don't touch face once you're outside, wash hands regularly and lather them with antibacterial soap/hand wash for longer than 20 seconds before washing off with hot water)

you can sanitize these masks for reuse by tossing them into a UV-C sterilizer for 40 minutes. The UV light will inactivate any virus (and as a bonus, bacteria) without damaging the weave. At low viral loads as little as 20 minutes may be sufficient but studies found that 40 minutes is required when a high viral load is present. Look for baby bottle/toy sanitizers, jewellery/cell phone sanitizers, or towel warmers/sanitizers, many use UV light to sterlize, and ensure it is in the UV-C band (200--300 nm).

I had some n95 masks before this started and I’ve noticed that there is a lot of conflicting information out there. If you have N95 masks, lesser rated surgical masks, intend to purchase some when the supply frees up, are given one by your agency, or are planning to make your own (there are videos out there) the information I’ve gathered may be useful. Full disclosure, I am not an expert and my conclusions are partially anecdotal, but I’ve done my best to synthesize viable data from credible medical sources, as well as a few non-medical but logical anecdotal sources (use at your own risk). You may have seen that the CDC currently “does not recommend” a respirator mask, and that maybe because (1) they need to keep supply going to first responders, and/or it’s relatively easy to use or handle the mask incorrectly (2) doing so might increase your chance of exposure (that said, if your mask picks up enough viral particles to pose a risk, then we might assume your lungs would have done the same thing without the mask). (1) Although the coronavirus (and the flu) are smaller than the particle filtering limit of an N95 respirator, you must consider that the (airborne) virus is transported in larger “droplets”. The mask stops the droplets. “Yes, a surgical mask can help prevent the flu,” Sherif Mossad, MD, an infectious disease specialist at the Cleveland Clinic, tells Health. “Flu is carried in air droplets, so a mask would mechanically prevent the flu virus from reaching other people.” It would work both ways, says Dr. Mossad, preventing transmission of the flu virus to others and for keeping a mask-wearer from picking up an infection. 2: In normal times the masks are intended to be single use. That said, we don’t all have that option. Therefore I intend to reuse the masks but we must be careful not to transfer virus from the front of the mask to our hands during use, while removing, and during storage. My N95 masks (see manufacturer’s recommendation for your model) are good for about 8 hours of continuous or intermittent use. So if you properly handle and store after using you can use it a number of times. An N95 mask is better than the surgical masks you see used in most media clips of asian countries. That said, a mask can do two things: (1) Keep virus out, and (2) keep virus in. Both types of masks serve both functions in varying degrees, the N95 just does it better. If you have both surgical and N95 masks it is recommended to use the surgical mask over the N95, mostly it seems to prevent touching the front of the N95 with your hands while using. This video describes how to fit and remove. Key point not discussed in detail is not to touch the front of the mask when wearing or removing as this could pass virus to your hands. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKDboal6i9SShKs Sanitzing Mask Pt. 1: I’m still searching for the best way to sanitize a mask. So far I haven’t determined if a bleach solution, microwave steaming, or something like lysol will degrade the mask’s capability, but since my initial use is for a weekly shopping trip, a seemingly viable low-tech method would be put them in the sun for a few hours on each side as UV is fairly efficient at killing virus, then store them in a safe area in a breathable bag (if you store them damp from your breathe for longer than a few hours they can become bacterial breeding ground). Sanitizing Mask Pt. 2: A new analysis found that the virus can remain viable in the air for up to 3 hours, on copper for up to 4 hours, on cardboard up to 24 hours and on plastic and stainless steel up to 72 hours. But some of the studies offer conflicting conclusions with another indicating that COVID-19 may survive as long as nine days on hard surfaces....but won’t remain active for as long at temperatures higher than 86 degrees Fahrenheit. SUMMARY: BESIDES EXPOSING BOTH SIDES OF THE MASKS TO UV VIA SUNLIGHT FOR A FEW HOURS (BUT NOT TOO LONG LEST YOU DEGRADE THE FILTER FIBERS) I WOULD ALSO ROTATE USE OF MASKS SO YOU DON’T USE THE SAME ONE WITHIN 48 HOURS. Also, very important, while using, removing, and storing the mask, consider the front to be viral. So don’t touch the front during or after use, and remove, clean, sanitize, store it in a safe area such as your back patio/balcony. Ex. Don’t take it off in the car and toss it in the back seat. Again, my thoughts should be considered anecdotal and of the use-at-your-own risk variety. That said, if all you have is a few masks, now you have a process to adopt or reject as you see fit. If you find a credible source describing a better legitimate method to sanitize an N95 method, please send it to me and I will forward accordingly.

If i use my n95 and store it untouched for 10 days in my trunk of my car could i use it again?

There was a Peak Prosperity video where he said that after 9 days the virus deactivates (dies), so in theory it should be fine if you have 9 masks and you wear another every day. He said there would be more on the same topic (reusing masks), I probably missed that video (would be grateful for the link.) Mind you, if you cough or sneeze I’d sanitize the mask. Another doctor uses liquid Dettol sanitizer (and water mixture) sprayed on the mask at both sides. Let it soak for 20 minutes, then wash it with water and dry it. .. UV light is not good, because it will damage the mask.

@@danielzavala8014 Yup. Sounds pretty nasty to be taking these from a hospital, especially 100 rather than 2 or 3. It's not like you need 100 either. If there's an outbreak you need to stay the heck home and only go out if you need supplies, hopefully no more often than once every 2 weeks or so.
