I got mine several weeks ago and have been using it on my Wouxun KG 1000G and KG 935G and this antenna is awesome and so easy to set up and use. It's built solid and pulls in signals way out there.

Thank you for the review of this Slim Jim antenna. Good to see the SWR results. Seems like a great buy for camping.

N9TAX does a great job with these. I have a 2m/440 slim jim from him; excellent quality.

Yeah he uses quality parts and puts them together very cleanly.

I'm going to put this antenna in my Oak tree, that is taller than my house for my Wouxun KG-1000G. I just ordered a Retevis RT97S I'll also put an antenna for use at home when I am not travelling. Will get a Slim Jim for it. Can't get my wife to use the base station, but can get her to use the HT through this repeater. (I've been testing with an inexpensive Simplex repeater.) Considering connecting the RT97s to the internet with Raspberry Pi. We will see. I also have solar/MPPT controller and heavy duty 3 X12V 110AH forklift batteries for storage.

Did you try the RT97?
@togeika11 ай бұрын
Yes. It works. No coax needed, just connected to the Slimjim and EdFong. Don’t have it up now. Purchased for emergency Neighborhood watch, camping, motorcycle meets and rides.
@Johnyrocket703 жыл бұрын
You can order one for just murs or just gmrs. Makes for a shorter antenna.
@Soladaddy3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I think the GMRS only is made from twin lead and will be very small.
@kevinbeardslee75879 ай бұрын
Does the MURS/GMRS pick up NOAA stations (162.4 - 162.55)?
@Soladaddy9 ай бұрын
It does. I have this antenna on a HT inside my one story house and am picking up two stations. One is close by, maybe 12 miles away. The second one has static, is understandable and about 60 miles away. The terrain here is flat so no election gain.

This antenna is getting a lot of attention on the Reditt GMRS page.

Interesting. A tree and some rope will get some height while hiking/camping.

I bought two 10' PVC pipes, stuck them together, and zip tied them to a tree behind my shed. Rigged a flag pole pulley attachment, and wala, I have a $30 tower

I don't use MURS really. I guess I could, I just haven't really. But I do use GMRS and they make a single band GMRS (or 70cm if you want) that is made with smaller ladder line but is a full slim jim not the trapped lower section of the dual bander. So it does benefit from the "folded dipole" in that the emission pattern is changed. It directs the radiation pattern more level with the horizon instead of upwards at whatever degrees. In practice you get better horizontal radiation. Disclaimer --> I don't know I'm not an expert but this info is what I have learned from my Internetting today.

I was tempted to get the GMRS only Slim Jim, but at the time was using MURS a bit more.

@@Soladaddydoesn’t matter. It’s not a frequency specific antenna. You can use almost anywhere throughout the 150 and 460 range so it’s really a dual band commercial/land mobile antenna.

Nice, wonder what the swr is on ch 6-11? Running the pipeline and the antenna on the truck is not that good, so something like that would be great to have. Oh,wait, sorry about that, business band, ch 6 (silver star 467.850) it's close to gmrs, even believe a few channels are on the gmrs band. Anyway, noticed the uv82, have you tested the swr on 467.850 or 469.550?
@Soladaddy3 жыл бұрын
I did not test that high, but would be interesting.
@Johnyrocket703 жыл бұрын
467 is the gmrs repeater input frequency. Its covered.

Can the antenna be bent in half and put on a standard window for better signal to fit on window square? Or will bending diminish signal?
@Soladaddy3 жыл бұрын
Bending it will hurt performance and change SWR. Best to keep it away from anything, especially metal. If this is for GMRS, then his GMRS only antenna is much smaller and may fit the window.
@CinematicTouchProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@Soladaddy Yeah thank you, I just spoke to n9tax labs the guy that makes this antenna told me I can bend it at the cut out Notch on the side 90 degrees but the top portion of the antenna must stay vertical
@Soladaddy3 жыл бұрын
@@CinematicTouchProductions Cool. Yes, the part under the notch is used for tuning to match the impedance and that can be 90 degrees from the top section.

You can do this yourself... I made a rigid aluminum rod (stationary for the house). I will make a camping one out of the wire. It is bad that it is impossible to adjust to 2 ranges.73!
@Soladaddy Жыл бұрын
I'm a fan of single band antennas for performance and ease of tuning. This one is good for quick temporary setups and is easy pack/store and not take up much space.
@ДенисПогрелый Жыл бұрын
I was inattentively watching this story... The antenna here is dual band. I'll try to make one. The dimensions are 145, and due to the inserted pieces of cable, it also works on 433. I found a scheme on the Internet, I'll try to do it.
@jkg62118 ай бұрын
@@ДенисПогрелый How did it turn out?
@ДенисПогрелый8 ай бұрын
What exactly? Why is it not working on 2 bands? It has resonances in other bands, many places, but it does not work to achieve the ideal SWR index (I have 1.3 - 1.5).
