Man, i got to thank you. Not necessarily for any of the 2gr stuff, but for your videos on the e transmissions. More specifically, the info you provided for the narrow e series transmissions. Its been a while now, but your info on the e35x transmissions had inspired me to use one myself. Heres what my build is, and what its done so far. So i have an 87 Camry. I had 3sgte swapped it almost 5 years ago now. I started with using the s51 trans that came with the car, then switched to the s53. However, i knew this was going to be a weak point, plus they shift like crap. I had planned to use a e153, but trying to source one of them without spending thousands was proving to be nearly impossible. Then, one day i found this channel. You were talking about using the narrow e series in the mr2. I knew then that i needed to go that route. No plans for anything over like 450 whp, so i pulled the trigger and bought a e351 from a 2002 Camry. Installed it that winter, and went drag racing with it in the summer. Picked up nearly a second just in its ability to shift. I've since then figured out some nearly bolt in 1 piece axles. I had modified the stock s trans mounts, and solid mounted the torque mounts. Put slicks and a new fueltech ecu, as well as a bigger turbo from eBay. So far, that transmission has held everything I've thrown at it. Now, after this last summer, ive actually went and broke the 1/4 mile record for my chassis. Mind you the bar was not very high given it is just a second gen Camry, but i managed to easily push out a 12.8 at 105, with a 1.8 60 foot, and there was still more power on tap. I can guarantee i would not have reached that with the s trans, nor would i have been able to source a e153. But here i am, i hold a chassis record, and i owe it partly to you for your info on the narrow e series. So i thank you, keep up the great work with what you do!

I was honestly really shocked that the flaw that Toyota put in this motor was just replicated by camshaft manufacturers without giving it a 2nd thought. The key here is just to double check everything even the stuff you think is right. The other key is that a lot of old school tips still have validity to them but you also need to consider the variable cam timing capabilities, that really changes the game quite a bit. unfortunately you only have intake cam control on that motor which does eliminate some of the advantage but a lot of the old school tricks that would lead to excessively peaky power give you great wide power bands when you add variable cam control.

221whp is pretty normal. They generally get 220-230whp. I picked a dyno that was high for stock so there would be less chance of me being accused of baking the numbers to look good. Straight to the point with the dyno right away. This channel is a gem. I expect you'll continue to grow, the videos are great 👍

I hate clickbait so i really don't try to do that to you guys. I like starting with the results when i can and then the people that want to stick around for the details can stick around. It really seems like people appreciate that.

If there is one thing that I appreaciate about your vid is the fact that it's completely unscripted, all from the heart and just plain car enthusiast that does things with his own hands. Props to you bro! I was looking to get into building a Toyota Altezza (known in Australia as Lexus IS200/IS300) with a 2GR in it. And we are blessed with a possibility of getting a factory-supercharged version (from a crashed Toyota Aurion TRD which is just a re-engined and re-bumpered Camry of the same year lol). But for such a light car, a built NA 2GR would be PLENTY. Do you use MR2 ECU or did you use the engine donor cars ECU?
@FrankensteinMotorworks2 ай бұрын
That TRD supercharger setup is actually quite terrible. The NA version literally makes more power than the supercharged one as soon as you open up the intake and exhaust. This is because the lack of intercooler causing high intake temperatures and as a result really late ignition timing. that combined with the power loss to drive the supercharger results in a net power loss.

You loosing some weight? Looking good! Awesome progress on the 2gr- my favorite engine option for the spyder that one day I’ll be switching to. I would just want a turbo with it, can’t live without the turbo noises.
@FrankensteinMotorworks2 ай бұрын
Yes, a lot of weight. I'm about 60lbs down at this point and about another 20lbs to go before my goal. A 2GR like this in a spyder is already insanity, adding a turbo on that is dangerous, make sure you have a budget for sticky tires :)

That’s some impressive weight reduction. You’re really serious about this drag racing thing, huh?

Thats dedication and hyper focus on engineering and R&D to reach your goal! Your a madman! 😊 Great job! Maybe reach out to Snake Eater for the injector options?

There's actually a couple really nice factory Bosch options i will likely use to keep the price reasonable, i have a few in mind already and the intake is designed to be able to take most of those already.

Reminds me of the development i went through with my 6g72 one of our walls to making 300+whp NA was the OEM and "aftermarket" intakes that use shortened stock intake runners. They run out of breath at 6500rpms. Since i had limited myself to the 3.0l block instead of the 3.5l block the only option was RPM. Found an intake similar to the one on the right in your video with a holley LS intake plenum and 95mm throttle body. Makes power to 9k rpms to the tune of 305whp@8800rpm stock is 160-170whp. Would love a custom ITB manifold. Since none exist it would have to be custom. No one builds 6g72 na if someone does build them they go with twin turbos. So not a lot development going on lol.
@FrankensteinMotorworks2 ай бұрын
Yeah, there's a lot of aftermarket parts out there for many engines that are just designed to look good and aren't actually concerned about performance. Ending up with a set of cams and an intake that complement each other can be pretty tricky with all the misinformation out there.
@az_3kgt7142 ай бұрын
@@FrankensteinMotorworks Yea, people are making engines were the power curve is shoved to the right, but the engine is built in a way that cant take advantage of it.That and turbos make engines appear to have more horsepower, but its more like the turbos are making the power and if the engine did not have them. The short comings would become far more apparent. i think that lower manifold you made that seperated the runners and had them cross over is dope man. I dont have the facilities to do that or i would lol. That would work for the ITB set up i want really dam well. Would send you my lower to see if you could come up with one that thing is a work of art. You gotta have a casting foundry to make custom parts like that.
