The Magnus version actually came out first and the Prime is the retool, that's why the Nemesis and Shattered Glass versions are based on the Magnus instead of the Prime, which wasn't ready yet.

23:37 They actually did; it was either the Marvel or metallic releases that started it, but after them the later releases and subsequent reissues of David featured retooled biceps that removed that residual joint and replaced it with a proper double-jointed elbow, at the cost of breaking the sculpt if that matters to some. The recent reissues of Toon and EX David were updated with these as well, as my reissue copy of EX David from mid-2023 does have those new elbows.

Y’know, despite everyone shitting on MP-44 and its toy repaint at every possible chance, I actually kind of like it. I got MP-44S on sale for $150 a few months back, and as my first Masterpiece figure, I think it’s pretty good. Surprisingly, I haven’t had a single issue with QC, paint, or anything of that sort. Sure, it’s outclassed by a lot of third-party Primes (and even its predecessor sometimes), but as a super-articulated Masterpiece, I think it’s decent. Also, with a bit of practice the “nightmarish” transformation can get a lot easier, I’ve whittled my personal record for transforming it down to a little under ten minutes. Definitely not the worst Prime we’ve ever gotten.

While I understand your dislike of Magic Square's 1.0 prime, Ive got to argue your point again that its "just a retool" the ENTIRE upper half is redesigned to be more accurate in both modes and manages to have both the real truck grill and MP44 window flip built into the mold. But i will agree that the legs are a mess still. Id recommend, if you can, to grab some version of MS-B46, because I really believe you ought to give the 2.0 mold a shot. I believe the F release is the best version of him outide of the original release, although it doesnt come with most of the accessories of the original 2.0 release.
@fakename530729 күн бұрын
Yeah, I don't know who told him or how he came up with that it was just a retool, handling both 1.0 and 2.0 is a night and day difference, and I almost prefer how 2.0's leg transformation works against Newage Prime. Not the Newage Ultra Magnus legs though, I like those better than both of them.

I have the comic repaints of both David and Agamemnon, and on top of being just beautiful representations of the sunbow models, have some of the most RESPLENDANT paint I’ve ever seen. Both are perfect legends scale representations of Optimus and Megatron in my opinion. Even the boxes on the comic versions have special boxes that mimic the marvel comic run. The care and attention to detail put into those figures is so apparent, and I love them both

Okay so, I have an experience and perspective to share here. I was, and still really am not, a Legends guy. Wish I was in some ways, I love the idea of discreet transformer toys you can bring with you anywhere and fool around with without attracting much attention (I have a lot of downtime between Uni classes and like to have stuff to do with my hands). Something about them still hasn't clicked for me, but I LOVE buying Optimus Primes. I love seeing how many new ways you can turn that robot into a truck, so I'm always on the hunt for new ones to try out. I am a big fan of Magic Square...'s MASTERPIECE version of their 2.0. Light of Peace instantly became a massive favourite of mine and remains one of the few MP scale figures I own, it impressed me immensely from the word go. The fact that the articulation was out of this world, that it was so stable on it's own feet to hold nearly any crazy pose you could want, and looked like a dream of a transformation compared to the nightmare of MP44 made me a fan. Despite tolerance issues giving me issues at times, I still love that figure, so I always kinda figured I'd give their legends scale version, the one the MP was a revised version of, a try. Mistake. Let me remind a bit again. A few months ago I was itching to try out Legends "for real" and get my first one, and then I saw NewAge's Magna Convoy on sale on ShowZ... and man, I love a blue and black deco on a robot. I love Magna Convoy's colours, and I made the choice to grab that figure the moment I could. When I got it, I... instantly started getting frustrated. Nothing seemed to make sense to me, the instructions were confusing, there were few video examples that showed it's transformation (and none good, that I could find) so I struggled with it for nearly an hour, fumbling around and getting increasingly frustrated trying to turn that damn truck into a robot and back. Finally, I did, and for a time I enjoyed the time I had looking at it. Visually? A spectacular looking little guy. Very premium paint work, very eye catching in spite of the size, and the armor up was relatively painless and added a very satisfying amount of heft. But I left it there in robot mode, I already struggled with it a few times and had firmly decided that while I was keeping it for the sake of finally have a nice looking Magna Convoy for my growing Optiholic problem, I was firm in never transforming it again. Until I had to again, for a photo I wanted to take of all my Optimus figures, a tradition I've been trying to create for myself whenever I get a bunch of new ones. And I had to turn him back into a truck. And I struggled again, and eventually, more or less got it, but obviously not securely. But I couldn't handle that thing anymore and decided it was good enough as is. Fast forward back to now again. Hello. As of writing this, I've had the 2.0 of the LEGENDS scale Magic Square prime for a couple hours, and this... this is not my baby Light of Peace. Well, he is A baby LoP, but you get my meaning. He's cute, I adore him and he's as posable and articulate as I would expect from this engineering scheme, but wow... wow does this transformation FLOUNDER at legends where I found it to flourish at MP. All the worst parts of LoP are amplified, and the best completely dulled into a figure that feels positively terrifying to transform. I know that scheme like the back of my hand, and I've been terrified to ever touch it again. It's frankly insane how much scarier it is to handle than ol' Magna. I may not love NewAge's poster boy, but he sure as hell isn't terrifying to the touch. At the very least I don't feel like I'm going to break something at every turn. I think LoP is a wonderful figure and truly shows where that transformation scheme works best, in that context. Honestly? If the David mold (and it's kin) were scaled up to chug or MP? I might honestly like them better there, who's to say? This has been my long, rambling way of saying "remember, never judge a book by it's cover" when it comes to this stuff. I still wanna love you legends, please let me love you, please.

I've soured just a bit on this figure after getting 86... still an easy 7 or 8 out of 10 though. The problem is while it's undeniably better than 86 in most every respect, 90 bucks+ is just too much when there's an official figure that comes close to it at the exact same price AND a much larger scale. Still good (and easier to get than 86), but if anyone asks me which I recommend more I'm going with the official 95% of the time unless you ONLY collect 3p legends. Edit: fyi, the reissues and certain newer versions have double jointed elbows.
@scatterbrain8764Ай бұрын
Funny what you said about this figure convincing your friends to go in on 3rd Party Legends, because this video is honestly convinving me to do the same. When I was first getting back into Transformers, I was considering picking up MP-44+ as it first went up for pre-order, since I thought the toy stylings looked cool. Then Missing Link appeared, which was about as toy-styled as you could possibly get (being a literal recreation of said toy), and I bought that instead. And now, I see this figure reconciling the toon and toy stylings together, in a way the MP really failed to do now that I've gotten a closer look. So thank you, for not just helping me dodge a bullet, but also telling me that this figure would be readily available (at the time you recorded this, anyway), because now I'm excited to pick this up. I've wanted to take the plunge into 3P for a while now, and this might just do it for me.

@rascallymanx8947Ай бұрын
First point: Definitely, if you collect Magic Square then you know thier Legends releases are slowing down significantly over the next few years. Grab a repainted deco of whatever mold interests you. Personally I've started collecting Newage again (I sold off all of them when I got Light of Victory and MS Devastator because I hated Newage Hephatsus so much) and have been getting the toy/ diaclone redecoes and display them in vehicle mode like little hot wheels. Secondly: While I think that insulting Lockdown for not getting B46 is too far I think alot of his fans are discouraged that he's completely writing off a brilliant figure because it resembles B18 too closely. He's not giving B46 a fair shot, which they (and I) think it deserves.
@PamjameliaАй бұрын
@@rascallymanx8947 For the first point, yeah I've noticed that. But I'm not the kind of collector who buys a bunch of figures for a set; I just get stuff every now and then if they look fun to play with, which I find the MS figures I have so far to be! For the second point, I can kinda understand that. But at the same time, there's already plenty of reviews covering that figure. While it'd be nice to see his take on it, it's pretty clear that he's not interested. Ultimately it's his channel and his money, and B46 is a fair bit to pay for the full set if it doesn't interest you, which is why I'm still hemming and hawing over trying New Age again because their prices are... whew. Yeesh. Yeah.
@rascallymanx8947Ай бұрын
@@Pamjamelia you're not kidding about Newage prices, I got lucky with TFSafari and got a handful on sale, then found SG/Diaclone magnus at a local shop for 50$ You're also right about actually finding a full B46 set for a good price nowadays too. I'm glad I got my original release for 70$ when it came out, since then I've grabbed the E and 2023 releases and neither were as good as the Original. I'm tempted to try out the F release though, 50$ shipped from MSToys website with the metallic blue window paint and bigger eyes is really nice.

That goofy chest transformation is an issue for me (Magic Square 2.0 and MP44 have rotating panels to solve the window changing), but you absolutely can *NOT* deny that the Marvel G1 comic color repaint of NewAge David is a GORGEOUS repaint and almost tempted me to get it. I do wish that there was either painted detail or sticker detail for the interior of the trailers of both NewAge David & Magic Square Light of Victory. But then again, MP44 ain't got it, or so I don't think, and MP10 absolutely ain't have it (the downsized KuBianBao MP10V KO certainly ain't got it).
