After learning of WNBA star Brittney Griner’s detention in Russia, Naama Issachar knew she needed to share her story. While traveling in 2019, Issachar had a layover in Moscow. After authorities found cannabis in her bag, she spent the next 10 months in a facility until she was pardoned by President Putin. Issachar tells NBC News’ Kate Snow that she was held in cells with up to 40 other women. Issachar says that she was given food, but not toilet paper or feminine hygiene products, and was taken to a cell with an open air roof for one hour a day.

I was in Vietnam in the 1990s, traveling with a teacher from Canada. He had parents of students coming all the time to take things to them. One night a little, old lady knocked on the door and handed me this tightly wrapped package. I simply took it without thinking and put it in my luggage. The border guards found it and ripped it open. Fortunately it was only tea in there but it could have been full of drugs! I would never make such a stupid mistake again but I was 20 and naive. The Vietnamese would have executed me and no one would have believed my story.

Russians see her as a trader of her own country. She is not of importance to Russians. She isn't even a thought for Russians. I’m going to be honest, I thought the prison was going to be far worse than what she described. Aside from not having toilet paper and feminine hygiene products of course. I saw a documentary of someone investigating a Russian prison with men (I think it may have been DW News and a French news channel), and there were correctional officers that were torturing them, pining them to the table while raping some of the prisoners, and several other accusations of physical and sexual assault. So when I clicked on this video, I just envisioned the worst possible scenario. I also dont think it’s smart to parade around saying “what a lie,” towards her sentence. Even if she felt that way, and even if she knew about “political moves”, I would keep it to myself. This way it wouldn’t be heard by Russian officials, and they received it as arrogance and not “positivity”. Then they’ll REALLY want to make an example out of foreign prisoners.

I don't wish this on anyone, BUT... ignorance isn't an excuse. Unless someone planted that in her bag, she knew she was travelling internationally and should have had the brains to check her bag for any thing that would be illegal. No one should assume their bag doesn't have some little item they may have forgotten about. I'm glad to hear she was able to power through and get past this. Stay safe out there!

I didn’t hear this young lady say anything about going to a Penal Colony. It’s not the same. I didn’t hear anything about force labor. Sounds like she was in the prison and they let her out before she could be transferred to one. Mainly because she said she was in a room all day. Brittany is headed to a colony of long hours of labor and still has to try and stay positive.

Travelling with Cannabis through an international airport is not allowed anywhere, not in Russia, USA, and even Canada (where cannabis is legal btw). Saying is was not my "intention" would not save you ANYWHERE. All people caught with drugs always say the same "is not mine", "I didn't know". -> Guilty. In this happened in Indonesia or Singapore could be worse. Be careful people. Do not travel with any drugs. It can ruin your life.

The residue is nothing, if it hadn't been that, it would have been Brittneys dreads or her tatts. Funny how Orange Monster called Brittney spoiled. Great vocabulary as usual. Do a -Russia if you’re listening , why don’t you? Did Naama say she was leaving the country when they arrested her? None of it matters, they plant evidence, hey, just like cops do here. Russian soldiers carried off 70 year old grandmothers who were carrying a sheet of paper sign. One person was arrested holding a blank sheet of paper. Any connection between us siding with Ukrainian and Brittney being arrested? Timing and all. And for the "do the crime" set…residue is not a crime…it’s just residue. If it wasn’t planted, in fact. It’s all part of the great change. An upheaval. No more wars. Russians, lay down your arms and walk away. Unlock the doors of political prisoners. Free us all. We can turn this evil back on itself. A pendulum that goes in the other direction.

Very unfortunate situation. I hope this brings awareness to people that what is acceptable in one region of the world may not be in others. That even gies for certain substances in the United States. News has now reported, basketball player Iman Shumpter, was just arrested in the states at a airport with Marijuana. Though legal from the state where he was traveling, it is not in every state. Though I personally think the possibly of him being in jail for up to a year is crazy because it's legal in other states, the law is still the law. Please educate your self and the people you love It! It is very sad to see it play out the way it has and I wish the both the best. Peace, love and blessings y'all. 💜
