Doing a good job. I first said 100 to 200 hours..... But doing the best job you are I will now say 500 to 600 hours. But and here's a BIG BUT, You will have a proper hardcore boat that will, dare I. say out last you mate. Keep up the good work!!!! You are doing a GRAND JOB.....
@C3BFA2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Matt. I think you are right with hours originally it was deck replacement but I can't cut corners so ended up saying bigger it I'm doing the whole lot properly and it takes as long as it takes
@matthewcadle72002 жыл бұрын
@@C3BFA I. think by the time you have done the complete project, like you say the hours does not matter, its the end result!. which will be better than new I would say. And you will have a fine boat mate!!!.. :)
@C3BFA2 жыл бұрын
Very true Matt. The boat is for me I'm not doing this to sell it so the hours don't matter if I was to sell I would never sell it for enough to make a profit lol but it's not being done for that reason I want a solid boat that will last year's and years

Looking good so far. If you’re still planning on using 2 part paint make sure there is no old paint on there at all. It will react with any single part part that has been used prior. To get paint off the best way I’ve found is to sand it with 40/60 grit all over to key it then using nitromorse or an equivalent, then scraping off. I done our Colvic in less than a day that way. It heat gun may have been quicker ?. Be sure not to hold the sander in one spot and always hold it flat never at an angle (you’ll regret it later) instead of using the 3m pads you could use hempel anti-slip pearls which you add to the paint on the pads. .. also I would suggest laying down a thin layer of Matt to the whole inside on the hull when you’ve sanded down and repaired it all. All the best!
@C3BFA2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input Sam i appreciate it. I have sanded it all with 40 grit do far and left a small amount of white as you see in the video my plan is to hit it again with possibly 120grit to remove the white bits then it will be primed and sanded again going lighter and light on the grits. The inside will be fully glassed I'm doing celotex stringers with 2-3 layers and and I will be glassing the whole inside of the hull when I do it and up the sides so it's fully tied in to the boat. If you have any more suggestions or input or even criticism please do it will all help Sam I hope you continue to enjoy the boat restoration series thanks for watching.
@samlane24402 жыл бұрын
@@C3BFA I would sand to 240grit before priming.. you can get a a high build primer like jotun penguard. It will fill a lot of small pin holes and bits you can’t see. The only trouble with it is poor curing times. Also I use an acrylic filler by 3m for finer detailing later on, it’s amazing stuff dries super quick. Also I use stuff called free fix from ECF for tacking in stringers and putting a radius from the stringer to hull. 👍🏼
@C3BFA2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that I did see free fix but been advised to use gravicol by Gary bull I'm buying 25kg of it for transom , stringers and deck that's the plan anyway

Look forward to seeing how your 520 looks,hope I can come back for some advice here and there,about what paints to use.

Hi dave,the faring on top,how do you remove that,I wish to take mine off,but keep cabin,also done sanding one bit I sanding to much,but learning as I am going along,hull and transom done already,dave can you give a heads up on what paint I should use,Hastings boatyard blokes,one saying gel coat,one saying marine gloss,one saying you only need 2 part part,all confusing me.cheers dave.
