Hi Rhoda and Sergio! I made a small web-research regarding this ancient Greek inscriptions on 6:35 and 7:14 These are tomb inscriptions (epitaphs) From what I can understand the name of the buried dignitary is Germanos Alexandro (2nd -4th line) And on the second inscription the name is Zacharia Seracin The menora flanked by crosses appears on many of the epitaph stones inscriptions of that period of 400-600 AD.

Great video, guys! My wife and I love watching your videos while we drink a cup of tea here in England. I met your friend Yossi at the Nazareth Village last November; his tour was the highlight of our whole trip and our whole tour took the time that evening to pray for him as he continues to shares the Gospel there. I thought I recognised him, and then I realised it was from your videos. I took a little Greek in Bible college and the second line and first three letters of the next line say "KARIOSGERMANOS" or "blessed Germanos," which must have been the person's name. It does look a bit like a eulogy tombstone. The menorah surrounded by two crosses makes me think he must have been a Messianic Jew!

These videos are great. For the inscription at the 6:30 mark, I translate the first sentence as, "The blessed Germanus [son of] Alexander lived seventeen years and seven months, and he died unmarried." I'm no expert, so take that with a grain of salt. The next part puzzles me. It appears to mention the month Dios, the ninth indiction (which would have run from about 432 to 446 A.D.), and the year, so it likely gives the date. But I haven't cracked it yet.
@slowscape4 жыл бұрын
R. Grant Jones another commenter has a very similar translation, I think you did well, thank you! Any idea on the other?
@RGrantJones4 жыл бұрын
@@slowscape - I can't tell what the first six characters mean. From there, it says, "The blessed Zacharias of Erasinos, in the tenth [day] of the month Panemos, the 14th indiction, on the Lord's Day, in the third hour of the night ..." From there, it becomes more difficult. It mentions "the third of the Sabbath" (I think) -- perhaps the third day of the week -- the month Panemos again, and the twelfth indiction. There is a parenthetical statement "Behold, those who oppose mercy", numerals I don't understand, and the words "Give him rest." It closes with "with your saints. Amen." It's a puzzle.

Nabatean King Aretas is mentioned in the bible in 2 Corinthians 11:32 (when the governor of Damascas tried to apprehend Paul). I collect ancient biblical coins, and found information on King Aretas researching the history of a coin I own. Aretas was the father-in-law of Herod Antipas who divorced his wife (Aretas’ daughter) to marry his sister-in-law Herodias (Philip’s wife) which John the Baptist criticized and for which he was murdered.
