KZbin algorithm suggestion, this is great place for rail fan. It is not far from an torn down Santa Fe roundtable, near the old Trailway bus storage yard, which is now a city truck storage yard and salt removal. I visited this area often after Santa Fe passenger yard was closed on 22nd back in the 70s. This area has a lot of history, a bit cleaned up now. Before, there were three 1950s abandoned tanker cars, which has all been removed. Now, one can see some Amtrak train, some new from the north east corridor to different power units from BNSF to CN. Occasionally, one can find and see old passenger cars going along this area. Otherwise, it is a nonstop rail fan dream to see Metra, Amtrak. NS, and occasionily UP and other roads.

Yeah, I think they closed the route because of the 1993 crash in Mobile, Alabama.

That's the Sunset Limited route Los Angeles to Orlando, the full route was initially shutdown because of Hurricane Katrina and now almost 14 years later they give a million excuses on why they can't restore the full route.

Those Amtrak units are ready to be scrapped. There old and severely worn out.

This is just my opinion based on an article I read in Trains Magazine a couple years ago the Cardinal is one of if not the worst line Amtrak has. I wish more people were into riding it, but they are not. So instead of wasting money on a train that is considered one of the worst why not use that money for other areas such as restoring the Sunset Limited route east of New Orleans.
