I agree with 100% of your observations. I'm petite but do not have a skinny upper body. Even when I was younger and weighed 100 lbs I always had relatively thicker shoulders and an ample chest. Therefore, I cannot wear anything balloon-like on top, or those huge sherpa or fur-like coats. I did inherit a mink coat but it's not super fluffy and it's waist length so I can pull it off ok - but sadly some of the looks that look great on a tall, super thin person just don't work on me. I CAN trick an observer by elongating my line and proportions with wearing very high heels, of course, but it's tricky. Everything really is about proportion and I feel petite women like myself really are at a disadvantage when it comes to a lot of styles.
@NadaManley2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I agree 100%! These are so much harder on petite women because the proportions are so off!
@druidriley31632 жыл бұрын
I'm petite and am perfectly proportioned. Just some styles aren't petite size cut. I can wear some styles the models can, but the clothing has to be cut to a petite proportions. As my experience with the leather paperbag waist culottes proved when the waist came to my bra strap, the clothing needs to be designed smaller.

Agree. They're tapered pants with a little more give in the thighs, which I appreciate. As long as they're not TOO bulky, the tapered -"genie" pants are what I call them- pants can be flattering if the material is not stiff and are very very comfortable without being shapeless like a wide leg would be.

I’m so glad you pulled me back from falling into the abyss with these things lol . I was thinking I need to cave and get with the times since looking outdated will age me as well . I put off some of these new trends when they started coming out a few years ago because I hated them and knew that if they were making skinny teens that I kept seeing around town in them look wider than they were ( their upper body was tiny so I knew the jeans were adding the weight ), they would definitely make me look wider lol . I used to be small …98-100 pounds in my twenties ( that I’m kicking myself for taking for granted now😆) and I loved the grunge clothes back then ( those baggy jeans ) but after three kids and being 48 years old , my body is changing and I have no idea what works on me now . I do know that the 80’s mom jeans don’t work on me at all. I actually did get some pants that kinda’ sorta’ look like the ballon pants but they’re the j. Crew linen pants with a tapered leg. Not extremely balloon like?? I hope lol. I figured if the jeans are going that way in style I’ll just quit wearing jeans until that trend passes lol . I’m a stay at mom so I’d feel over dressed if my outfit wasn’t casual , relaxed and comfortable. I kind of thought I had found the happy middle ground with those pants. A step up from ugly jogging pants lol. I avoided pleats though and did get a pair that were hopefully slimming yet straight legged .( I just ordered them online like …. Today lol ) . The other two I found at thrift shops and they surprisingly looked good on me . Way better than the skinny , skin tight jeans I’ve been hanging on to since my youth . I tend gravitate towards the boho styles even when I try not to . I’m an artist and paint a lot so I guess it fits ?? I need to feel a bit zany lol. I have some olive green pants that might be a bit balloony lol but it seems to go good with sone boho tops I have . I hope 😆.

As an average height, curvy pear-shaped woman with narrow shoulders, I would wear some of these “frumpy” pieces and look good. The zip front wide collar knit Balencia jacket would probably look great on me; it would show off my waist and widen my shoulders. Similarly, the puff-sleeve pointelle sweater would look great on me. I agree with everything else! I was so interested in this video, because I am noticing so many shapeless midi-length dresses shown on young models with very chunky lug-sole shoes. I am looking forward to seeing how this trend is translated to streetwear here in Dallas, Texas. Another “frumpy” look that seems to work on some women are the highly promoted “Shackets.” I have seen tall and slim women look great in thick oversized shackets. They look pretty bad on me.

I don't find knit pants to be out of the house wear unless they are a dense knit that has good structure. Those paperbag pants loot stupid. Why is everything so short in winter?? Dumb. Everything seems cut to fall in the worst possible point on the body... I have to say I must have more of the top of my foot covered because my toes are short and I walk out of low vamp shoes. I like the look of shoes, like the day glove. I despise shoes that are meant to cover the toe, but don’t fully cover them. I don’t like the look of toe crack. And these shoes ensure that won’t happen. And I like the at they cover a lot of my foot and the skin the shows looks more long and narrow. I have very wide feet and when a lot of bare skin at the top of my foot is showing, they look even wider. I didn’t like those black heels though.

This is SUCH a good perspective. That can definitely be true with wider feet. I can see how this would make them look narrower for sure. Very interesting take. For most of us, these are not going to be as flattering but I loved seeing them a different way. Thanks for the comment!

Paper bag waisted pants don't even look good on the models. One of the worst trends ever.

Nada, $480 for those baggy jeans, really?? Wow, I've bought jeans less than $50 that have a much better look. Macy's sale, coupons and points are a much better deal and stylish, affordable pants.

I think that overly large clothes age you, and make you look bigger. As always, thanks for the topic, but I'm in no danger of purchasing any of these trends.

Cropped jeans or pants generally don’t look good on most people. I really don’t understand why you would want cropped pants anyway. Why not full length? Get them altered to the correct length. The exception is skinny jeans or pants.

I'm on the fence about them. Obviously you need coats to be somewhat oversized, otherwise how can you wear your layered outfits under them? If I'm wearing a turtle neck under a sweater and then my coat is fitted, It's going to fit tight. I need my coats to be oversized.

No! I’m actually not a big fan, at least in myself, although I love them on other people. It’s a personal style thing for me.

Part of the problem is that stylists don't know how to style clothes and models slump these days.
@NadaManley2 жыл бұрын
That is 100% true but I don’t think these clothes would look amazing even with great posture. Styling would definitely help

What it means "flattering" or "looking well"? Maybe it is not the point to look slimmer, younger, richer...
@NadaManley2 жыл бұрын
Looking more flattered in your clothes is definitely not the point for everybody but it is the point of this channel. My goal is to share my honest perspective on what I think looks good.

Petite ladies, just ride out this ridiculous trend for oversized coats with boxy cut and dropped shoulders. They're a waste of money for us. Just wait until you find a wonderful fitted coat with a waist and correct shoulder line and A-line skirt. And single breasted.

All the clothes most brands seem about 3 sizes too big. Is the population suddenly so obese or is there something going on. Certainly not attractive in any way.
