I think her anti Europeanism sowed the seeds for the catastrophe of Brexit, which is the last gasp of empire. That said, many in the Conservative Party then were one nation Conservatives, more paternalistic in their outlook and conception of the role of the state. Not all by any means of course. The Johnson iteration of the Conservative Party is really a hard right ( a phrase the media never uses unlike hard left) takeover/ purge of what went before. There can be no excuse for the policies of the 1980s but some of the Conservative Party were motivated by a sense of public service and accepted the post war consensus with Labour.
