Fun fact: June Anderson actually won the Met Auditions at the age of 17 back in the day. The lovely Nadine is the youngest winner (she was 20) since the Met’s age requirements changed. 😊

Loved this episode, ladies! I’m a lyric baritone, and sang for a few years with the SF Opera as a member of the chorus. Eventually, I fell out of the career. You ladies talk about a lot of real stuff, and it’s humbling and uplifting. Bringing humanity to our rarefied art is the ONLY way to keep it relevant. And the comments about Bocelli!! I’m guilty of being one of those who have slagged him off as a pretender, and I never will again! Nadine is 100% right! I sang with a couple of “leading tenors” at SFO that made some pretty god-awful sounds - and they were “legitimate opera singers” on 3 days rest, yadda yadda yadda. Bravo, Bocelli, and thank you Nadine for speaking a little truth to our arrogance.

I just watched this one, which I have been wanting to do for the longest time as Nadine is one of my favorite opera singers. I found very lovely the part where she talks about Pretty Yende and how they know when they are having a rough time. Pretty is going right now through a really difficult time as her mother recently passed and I found out through Nadine that Pretty was having difficulties as she was wishing her well. They both sing beautifully, they are true artists and have a beautiful friendship!

You know I didn’t know much about Nadine Sierra until like 3-4 years ago and I love her, not just because she’s a classical musician who’s around my age and not just because she’s a fellow Latina but she seems like a humble and down to earth human being and I’d love to meet her one day. Wow, what an interesting person Nadine is. I had to pause at 28 min. because all she said so far I felt totally drawn to. I loved & admired her singing before, but now I also know a little of her mind and 👍. So, thanks #ScreamingDivas. Loved all the Bocelli part & will try to find her coach on YT to know him. I have to say I appreciated the discussion about testing because I agree that it makes you able to operate with more security because you know as well as you can if someone is positive, unless they are still in incubation. It should be the most important thing when entering venues rather than proof of vaccination status since that does not impede the spread of the virus. Great conversation!

Very interesting story about Bocelli. To be honest, I was never a fan, but when he appeared on the Tucker Gala with some accomplished legit singers, I thought, ok he’s putting his money where his mouth is, putting his reputation on the line. Kudos. And then he sang. It was just awful, and I vividly remember Nadine pulling him through it (was it a duet from Lucia?). She is very kind to speak of him with affection, but any of the tenors on that show could’ve sung him under the table, while earning a fraction of his income. Sorry.

On Singing With Andrea Bocelli- “‘Let me tell you something: I don’t have a single tenor colleague in our realm who can do what he does - sing every day, travel every day, then sing, memorise all of this new music, get up there in front of minimum 18,000 people and still have a quality in his voice that is beautiful. Can sing high notes for days and has breath control…. sometimes I’m singing high notes with him and I’m thinking, he’s gotta stop now cos I’m gonna die”. Really? Really Nadine? I can think of a few tenors you’ve sung with who can match him and THENSOME THENSOME on all counts you’ve mentioned. If you want to sing with him because it’s good exposure for you, FINE. Just say it. But don’t justify it by denigrating the talent you’ve been privileged to perform with. BTW, love your voice.
