Awww, Nadine this was lovely. The beautiful churches, houses with grass roofs and the most verdant fields makes for delightful video; the sad part is, it ends too quickly🥹 Reporting from your tiny & cozy little cabin in anticipation of having pizza & wine, capped with a glorious rainbow - absolutely stunning! PS: I am enjoying your St Olav Way so much that I've taken the liberty of sharing your channel with my hiking buddies at my club🤩

The ship hanging in churches is a symbols of the church / congregation that carries people safely over the sea, the sea being a symbol of life itself. They are not viking ships. Many churches in Norway have them...

I wonder if the ship in the church, was a depiction of the “Fram”? Alcohol sales in Norway are tightly controlled, for a reason. So to find a shop that sells wine, it must have been like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow….🌈 Thank you for your great video…

@@caminodantoo Beer is sold in food shops / supermarkets. Wine and other drinks with a higher alcohol content is only sold in Vinmonopolet (= the wine monopoly). Vinmonopolet have stores all over the country, also in small towns like my little hometown with 3000 inhabitants. Vinmonopolet is a very big customer when buying in from international distributers, therefore they have a large / good selection and actually good prices for some of the more exclusive products. The reason for this system is to control that minors don't buy alcohol, and in general to control the sale of alcohol. Sweden have the same system, their stores are called Systembolaget. When it comes to the ship in the church, I wrote about that in another message... 😉

It was not a Viking ship in the church. Much newer boat. Nice following you on the trip.

In several churches will you find votive ships (church ships) hanging from the ceiling. These have often been made by sailors or ship builders, and are always given to the church. They can been seen as a passage over the ocean of life. The tradition are pretty common in the Nordic countries, specially in Denmark, but also Norway and Sweden. You will find these in many European churches, but there the tradition thrre died out earlier than here in the north.

The tradition about votive gifts goes back to antiquity, and was pretty common in old Greek and Roman religions. The tradition was adopted by the early church, and are common today many places. In some churches like Sant'Agnese fuori le Mura in Rome, will you find a wall just for votive gifts outside the church

@@NadineWalksalso: the main room (the nave) in a Norwegian church is called the 'kirkeskip' (the 'church ship'). Probably a connection there to these hanging ships.

The nave is the main room in a Christian church, also called the longship. The word is also used for a ship model that is hung above the aisle of a church. In Christian literature, the ship is often used as a symbol for the church. This symbolism is based, among other things, on the story of Noah's ark and the story of Jesus calming the storm.

Fundementals achieved... vino and pizza... the food and drink of the Gods... other than coffee, of course. (Hmm... perhaps the Norse Gods prefer pølse instead?) Yeah, sometimes you have to cut yourself the slack... glad you listened to your body. Cheers and adventure on!
