Also happy he took the Gold. He really should have done the deed in Rio, but c'est la vie. I was lucky enough to get to train with him in 2015 shortly before he won his World title. Nagase really is a true traiditional judoka and I do have a really great memory of what the Tsukuba University dojo ceiling looks like, even to this day. Lovely guy too!

hey that's great to know! What did his gripping feel like? Would love to hear more. I've only had the opportunity to train with Takato, and some guys from Nittaidai and Kokushikan, but never really experienced a top of the food chain guy from my own weight class.

@@JudoHighlights2015 Sorry I only saw this now as I revisit this video post Nagase's successful title defence! From what I remember, his gripping almost seemed non-threatening, until you realised you were on your back! I am not at his level (obviously) so I don't think he was having to work too hard. However, I would say that what really stuck out was how stable he felt. It never felt like you were breaking his balance at all. Contrasting that with Ono, whose gripping is more akin to being a child held by an adult, it was a bit more relaxed and fluid.

I am so happy about this video and about Nagase getting some of the love he deserves. He is truly amazing. Too little analysis is to be found about him and his style - there is so much to learn from him.

I fell in love with Judo and Nagase watching the Tokyo Olympic. Is it just me that he looks lighter than his opponents?

Just got to train with him and Ono this past weekend!! His judo is insane
He's my favorite of this generation for sure, but Kosei Inoue is my all time favorite. Both of them being fairly traditional and ouchi gari/uchi mata specialists wih very clean and powerful judo

Um judoca único incrível como ele encara, as seus combates sinceramente, flexível, técnica, habilidades enormes, menos força mas inteligência samurai foram do comum.

He is my favorite judoka too and I did choose him to win gold... and he fought his ass off for it.. what? Nearly and hour of accumulative bouts to get the gold? Uff what a warrior

@@JudoHighlights2015 Yes I agree with you! When you see him you don't think he is strong. First time I saw him was in Chelyabinsk (was coaching) and that was the first thing I thought when I saw him. But than he went toe to toe with Trikishvili in his prime and I said right there and than Nagase will be world champion one day....
