Nagmamahal Ako - Joel Malit (Pedro Concepcion)

I arranged the fingerings of this piece last October 16, 2010 based on an audio recorded version by the great Filipino master guitarist Pedro Concepcion. Thanks to my fellow youtube friend Mr. Mar Mendoza for sharing to me an mp3 copy of the original guitar with orchestra version which served as my guide for this beautiful arrangement. I just added my interpretation of the orchestral parts to make it a solo guitar version.
The main melody of this piece reminds me of the sound of some rare small birds that usually can be seen on high branches of trees. They are very shy and never get closer to people. When I was a small boy, I wished I could hit one with my slingshot so I can see clearly what it truly looks like. The size of this bird is more or less 5cm, brown to dark brown with slight shiny golden green...not so sure. Only a few months ago while I was on vacation to the Philippines, I heard the lovely sound of these birds singing somewhere on the trees near our house.

Nung isang araw pa ako nag-attempt magrecord pero pinagpaliban ko muna dahil masakit na ang rayuma ko sa kauulit.Mabuti at nakatsamba ako kanina ng medyo malinis na recording. Bigyan kita ng kopya nito, try mo kung abot mo din.... hehe

This is nowadays a rarely performed composition of Santiago Suarez who was justly celebrated for his other songs such as Dungawin Mo Hirang, Bakya Mo Neneng, Kay Dilim Nitong Hating-gabi, etc. An accomplished pianist who as a young man performed for cruise ships plying the American West Coast, he was also proficient on the guitar as witness his only composition on the guitar, Lumang Kudyapi.

Kamusta na Joel. Long time no hear. Still, same as always, nostalgic piece. It brings me back years with my cousins paying respect to young women and once actually out on a serenade. Unforgettable experience. Just a curious question - how many chord variations do you do with one same chord and, If I can make a request, could please do "Kapalaran," a piece made famous by Rico Puno? Thanks for this piece, Joel. I really enjoyed listening to it.

+John Cruz ...Thank you, Sir....I am not so familiar with this tune until I heard it from the recordings of Pedro Concepcion just 5 years ago.When arranging a piece or part of a piece for solo, I am not so particular with chords. I put the note first of the melody then I search for other notes to help that melody note....one or two notes are enough, then I will try to add the bass preferably an open string or if not possible, any bass note related to the melody. There are times that there is no good bass note available or it is very difficult to include it to the melody to form a chord.... so that one or two notes is ok. Sorry, I cannot explain it more clearly because I don't take any formal music lessons..... I'm just a self-taught guitarist, lacking those important theories.About your request, it will take time for me. There are also other people waiting in line for their requests. I hope you'll understand that I'm a visual artist by profession and not a musician. Music is just one of my hobbies.

+John Cruz .....thank you Sir John Cruz......hehe...ako po ang nagmamadali dahil sa gusto ko nang matapos irecord yung mga ibang kinapa ko na kundiman...marami pa....at dahil sa wala ako gaanong time magpractice....at sinabayan pa ng paglala ng rayuma ko....ay parang nawawalan na ako ng pag-asa na mapagbigyan ang mga request ng mga kaibigan. Yung iba ay naiinis na sa akin at umalis....yung iba ay sobrang inis at nilagyan na yata halos lahat ng dislike yung mga video ko...hehe kilala ko yun at hindi nalang ako nakibo kung ikaliligaya nya....hehe wala naman akong intensyon na makipagmagalingan sa kanilang mga magagaling....Maganda nga sana yung request mo....pero hindi ako masyadong bilib sa sarili ko kung makakagawa ba ako ng mas magandang areglo na kagaya ng mga sikat dyan sa tabi-tabi....try ko rin po......Salamat....God Bless you.

+joelmalit Actually Joel, tinutugtog ko yang Kapalaran sa key of G, pero tulad ng sabi ko noon stay lang ako sa chord structure-masaya na ako dahil nakalilibang na. Wala nga lang ng rebete at tone quality di kasing ok compara sa tipa sa ibang fret. Anyway, huwag mo ng abalahin ang sarili mo at mas mahusay kung matapos mo muna ang project mo. At aasahan namin na babalitaan mo kami ng launching ng kinasasabikang launching ng iyong record album. Hari nawa palarin ka at iyong project.

+John Cruz .......Ah ok...akala ko ay ikukumpara mo lang yung version ko sa gawa ng iba...gaya ng ginagawa ng karamihan na nakakausap ko.....pero kung libangan mo lang ay pwede akong gumawa ng solo arrangement base sa version ni Rico Puno....siguro ay ilang oras ko lang kakapain yun. Nagkakaproblema lang ko kung magrerecord dahil wala ako gaanong time para magpractice....mahina na rin ang memorya ko at command sa kaliwang kamay. Baka mainip ka kung hihintayin mo akong matapos sa mga video ko sa youtube.....kung mapapansin mo ay malalayo ang pagitan at mabagal talaga akodahil nga sa walang gaanong oras. Libangan ko lang talaga ang pagtugtog atwala akong ambisyon na mag-launch ng album...wala rin akong ambisyon na makipagmagalingan para sumikat.....hehe wla akong karapatan sa mga ganung bagay....dahil hindi naman talaga ako kasinghusay na inaakala ng iba.....hayaan nalang po natin yung mga mahuhusay at mga professional para sila ang mag-launch ng kanilang recording. ..dahil tila wala pa yata akong nakikita sa mga tindahan ng CD kung merong local guitarist na naglabas ng kanyang recordings.Hindi rin po ako naghihintay na palarin sa project ko....dahil gaya ng nabanggit ko na libangan lang talaga ang akin ang pagtugtog at wala akong balak na pagkakitaan ang aking recording. Yung mga tabs na dati ay pinamimigay ko ng libre....ay binastos lang ako nung karamihan sa kanila na mga hindi marunong magpasalamat matapos bigyan.......kaya ang ginawako ay may bayad na.......pero hindi para pagkakitaan ko ...barya lang sa akin yun.....kundi para maisip nila na mga balasubas...na ang mga tabs na ginawa ko ay pinaghirapan kong gawin at hindi ko lang pinulot sa kalye.....hehePero wag kang mag-alala Sir at yung ibibigay ko sa iyo ay walang bayad....ituring mo nalang na isang regalo mula sa akin. Sana ay magawa ko....Salamat.
