It should be noted that the reason why Echigo Tokimeki Railway runs the ET122 DMU train is that they didn't want the expense of buying the 521 series train sets that can run on both 1,500 volt DC overhead power and 20,000 volt 60 Hz overhead power, since there is a _dead section_ of overhead power just east of Itoigawa Station as we see at 41:08 in the video. This contrasts with Hapi-Line Fukui, which just took over a number of JR West 521 series train sets that already are dual-voltage capable due to the voltage just east of Tsuruga Station.
