We loved staying in Nagoya and exploring. Also a great base for day trips like the Kiso Valley. Nabana no Sato was amazing too.

I just spent 4 days in Nagoya hitting various museums, and I didn't even have enough time going all of them. 2 days is definitely not enough for this city with so much to see. For me, I'd need at least a week :)

Yeah!! One of the most interesting cities to visit in Japan. Because Nagoya is not boring..at all! ^^

Love this. Nagoya has so much to offer...Tokyo is awesome but it's like a country unto itself. Kyoto is amazing and a must see but is extremely touristy. Nagoya is a big city but still "feels" like Japan. Also I find that Nagoya people focus a lot on value. Meals are generally delicious and well priced. Entrance fees to attractions are usually very reasonable (I think it cost $5 to take my kids to the science center for everyone!!). Also they have an amazing subway system that makes getting around so easy. You can do can a lot in Nagoya if you stay for a couple of days because it's so easy to get around fast. Also...Osu shopping. The greatest shopping district in Japan. Hands down. Mix of everything including amazing food stands. This was awesome timing guys, I'm heading for a month in Nagoya and Hiroshima in couple weeks, can't wait. 😀

@@japanguide Definitely be heading up to Meijimura and Inuyama castle. Lots of trips downtown to Sakae and Yabacho, Nadyapark now we're adding Tokugawa en! Perhaps make the trek to the Toyota museum...they have some amazing cars there...Science centre...and definitely several trips to Osu. My boys love all the new and used electronics stores in Osu (so do I!)...Hiroshima will be lots of food, peace park, museum, Miyajima...more food 😀. Thanks again for this video. Awesome content and beautifully filmed by Charlie (I now know how to properly eat a tabesaki after 20 plus years of making a mess).

Nagoya is great- I just visited a few weeks ago! Atsuta Jingu reminded me a bit of Meiji Jingu in Tokyo, and Osu Shopping Street has all the great Nagoya food... and both places not that crowded 🤗

I really wanted to check out Nagoya when I was in Japan a few years ago, but I just didn't have enough time to catch the last train back to my hostel. So, I ended up only going to Gero that day. It was a pretty packed schedule, though. I started super early, around 7 AM, in Kanazawa, took the shinkansen to Toyama, explored the city, castle, and park, then hopped on a JR train to Hida Furukawa. After that, I visited Takayama and Gero before heading back to my hostel in Kanazawa.

Wow, I couldn't eat those wings either without making a mess. Kudos, Charlie!!! I visited Nagoya my first time in Japan, but it was on a tour so we only saw the fabric of Toyota. I would love to go again and enjoy the city proper

There's a reputation that Nagoya is "boring" but that couldn't be further from the truth! Take it from someone who lived there, it's absolutely worth a stop on your trip!! Also look into the special cuisine of Nagoya because there's truly so much unique and delicious food~

I remember when I first saw the Sachihiko fish in the gift shop, I thought it looked very similar to the shape of Japan. Especially since the map and the fish were right next to each other on the display shelf.

Nagoya, despite being a major metropolitan area, is often overlooked by any Japanese not from Nagoya. Regional pride and discrimination happens in all countries around the world.. In Japan, people from one region will often boast to foreigners how good their region is, while ignoring or even disparaging other regions.. Nagoya is often called that one stop on Shinkansen between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka that you shouldn't waste time to get off at.

I have always thought that if Nagoya and Osaka switched places, people would like Nagoya more than Osaka. The main appeal of Osaka over Nagoya is its proximity to the major tourist destinations of Kyoto and Nara (where everyone is already going). That makes it a no-hassle addition to a trip. It's so cheap and takes so little time to reach from Kyoto, so travelers are more likely to feel positive about it. Nagoya on the other hand is not near Kyoto OR Tokyo which means it requires both more time and more money to visit. Those consideration means you need to be more intentional and less spontaneous in order to make it "worth it". With more at stake, the chances of being disappointed are higher. The location of Nagoya just isn't appealing for a Tokyo - Kyoto trip even though Nagoya has a castle, aquarium, theme parks, museums, shrines, food culture, etc just like Osaka.
