Your personal protective equipment when testing the stone made me smile, but the warning behind it is 100%. I'd review your arbour and use large support washers - just like the wheel suppliers advise. Stones fail catastrophically, with a lot of energy.

Since you allready have a milling machine... would it not be a lot easyer just to use a small carbide tipped dovetail endmill (60°) to cut the nailnick ? Thats how i do mine.

Maybe... However, I used to use a 1-3/8" carbide end mill, which worked pretty well if I cut the nail nick before hardening the blade. However, now that I harden the blades before grinding, I've found that a stone works better.
