Having been trained by the late John Mennell, MD, the Father of Modern Manipulation in the U.S., and author of many books, I can tell you that the positioning depicted in the above video wrong is, in addition, it also negates the use of long axis traction into the STJ prior to manipulation. I refer you to Dr. Mennell's book, "Joint Pain".

You negate the role of different techniques to obtain the same result

It was funny that you would intervene and mention that. I was thinking the same thing observing this video claiming that it was for the subtalar joint. I tend to keep things to myself just in case I'm or I like another to come forth to spar things on as a 2nd witness so to speak. You being that 2nd testimony! 😆 Just a little background I happen to be a retired chiropractor and massage therapist. I got my Chiropractic degree and training at Texas Chiropractic in the 1980s. That included studies in clinical orthopedics and clinical neurology. In the clinical orthopedic proportion of the studies we had classes on the ankle jt. and manipulative evaluation techniques. We were shown the axial distraction thrust for the subtalar joint that you referred to. Some of our academic information was taken from the works of doctor Robert Menell and doctor James Cyriax. However out of fairness to this gentleman, I did watch 2 other videos he does incl.an axial traction supine manipulative thrust technique he claims is directed to the talocural joint. I was taught by best memory that what we are watching here was actually directed to the mortise joint. What say you about these since you seem to have lower extremity training. I had been to other seminars over the years while in practice on extremity evaluation and adjusting because we always need to learn and practice to not lose it. The other importance is to address the kinectic chain which starts with the tarsus of the foot. As you know both gait analysis as well as supine and prone evaluation my be in line. A big thing in Chiropractic was always to look for leg length inequality and leg length efficiency with tension in the hill counter area. And that's a whole additional subject matter I won't get into. 😆 But we learned if you want to be more effective chiropractors you need to examine gait if you continue to really learn over the years so you won't keep adjusting the same things over and over again wasting the patient's time and resources insurance benefits. Again that's another subject. 😞 sorry for getting off track. But watch if you would please this gentleman's assessment and manipulative video for the talocural joint. If you would please, could you get back and leave your impression. I would appreciate it. Again your reference to doctor John Mennell just sparked a nostalgic memory. At 71 I need those memory prompts. 😆 thanks.
