Nagwa is an elegant and wonderful interpreter of the instruments. I saw her dance and met her in 1978 when she was at her peak. She was elegant, gracious and spellbinding dancer. She developed her own style and became a goddess of the dance. Each dancer has her own style and Nagwa broke a lot of barriers in her style. In belly dance, many times less is more. I find it quite irritating that so many non-Egyptian dancers think they know more than the Egyptians; we will NEVER outdance them.

Had workshop with her one month ago, and i'm still thrilled about it ! the passion, the love for the dance is there !!! no need to move like maniac on a stage, or do 100 things, just one small movement of the hand wrist when the music cries and you feel the soul of the dancer ! Respect !

I had the pleasure of dancing with Ms. Fouad, in 1987. I was shocked when she graciously let me have "the floor" to myself. I studied the music and play doumbek. GOD BLESS YOU dear lady.🌹

Just stunning! I had never seen that paticular footage of Nagwa Fouad - Thank you. So lovely to see the simple costuming & also to show that a dancer doesn't need to bare her belly.

Amazing interpretation of the music. I think most dancers today are not well educated about the origin and authenticity of oriental dance. I mean, look at the comments. No idea about it. Only talking about technique... it's ridiculous to reduce this artform to technique. This is the result of globalisation and it's western influence and the idea of perfection and competition! This is what the dancers today do: They compete! They have no taste and no imagination of stillness, righ dosage of movement, playing and teasing, improvisation. It's a shame... They can't even hear the music well. But they act up as experts. Who do they think they are? It makes me sick to watch these shallow people raping the oriental dance and distorting it.

I agree with you on some of this, but watching someone dance should never make one "sick," we can only hope they learn more and interpret through deep feeling as well as technique. To each their own. Relax and enjoy what you like, let others' find their way. Najua is a rare gem.

@sunurreta Obviously you don't undertand the Egyptian mind and belly dance. I find it quite interesting that so many dancers or lovers of belly dance criticize the women who created the dance that we know today as belly dance; Egypt is where it all began, Baby, so live and learn from the best. They interpret the instruments and don't rely on tricks to do this. I doubt Nagwa is jealous of anyone at this point in her life; it's all about "feeling" the music.

@sunurreta Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I respect yours, but disagree with you. I'm curious to learn which form of Oriental dance or dancers you hold in high esteem. Do you like traditional Egyptian dance or do you lean towards the modern style?

@sunurreta According to Hossam Ramzy she is one of the greatest interpreter of the baladi style ( the style of this vide)...This particular style does not require great skills in tecnique...the dancer has just to do the right things on the music.... also, remembre that this video comes from the seventies...40 years ago...the dance itself was poorer than
