Great job and I have one quick question since I don’t have experience with the dragon. I found an eBay every refurbished one for under $3000. My question is it only comes with one year warranty what happens after that that’s my concern. So for only one of these bad boys, is it worth the money?

Fantastic and thorough review! Liked and subscribed. As a lucky owner of the first 500 dragon, I agree with everything said here. After owning the system since early August, I have zero regrets and have been wanting a robust atmos system without the bulk and it works perfectly for me. Naka, has said they’d replace some of the damaged (from shipping) components for me, but haven’t delivered since. Though they respond quickly, their actions haven’t proven much as far as customer support goes for non influencers like myself. 😢
@neverenoughtech10 ай бұрын
That’s disappointing to hear they haven’t replaced. I will admit I use my channel as some kind of insurance to make sure my issues get resolved … but that’s a lot of work for non contractual insurance … glad you are happy with it otherwise

I dunno. I had the Shockwafe system. I got a used Marantz and discontinued sale on Jamo concert series speakers and while I loved the Shockwafe when I first got it, as soon as I plugged in a more traditional setup with some good bang for buck speakers and subs it was definitely much more brash and the difference between the highs and lows made it to where I was constantly grabbing the remote to turn it down when shit got loud. With my jamos they stay at about the 80% volume level and get loud without distortion or hurting my ears, but can be so quiet at the same time with objects getting kick clear out of my theater room and across a non existent hallway. It was a night and day difference and my setup is probably around the $2500 price range with 5 base layer speakers, two heights, and two subs. Almost half the price of the dragon for arguably much better quality. I gave my Shockwafe to my mom because I just couldn't go back to it after hearing a full range nuanced system that had an incredible soundstage and could handle low and high volume with precision and finesse

Excellent review. I think it shows something, when the high end companies are making products like this the receiver way is just getting too complicated. I own a Pioneer SC-09TX some consider it the "mother of all receivers" every time an up-grade comes along it's a nightmare to re-program. Sound bars look better all the time!
@overbuiltlimited9 ай бұрын
This! I had a nice Denon surround sound receiver ten years ago. Still remember how it took an entire day to get it working and even longer to fully set it up. Fun for some, but not for me. Been rolling with a Paradigm Soundscape soundbar paired with an RSL Speedwoofer for the past five years. Decent set up, but no surround and dialog is crap. I wanted a large enough of an upgraded experience to justify spending money to replace a system that is not broken, just disapointing. I also wanted something easy to set up. I simply refuse to go through the frustration of setting up a full surround system again. Screw that!Enter the Dragon. Receiving mine tomorrow. Looking forward to playing around with it. I may upgrade in a few years and go whole hog with a properly prepped room with sound deadening and high end system, but if I do, I'm hiring someone to do it. Until then, I think the Dragon will do the trick.
@robertliskey4209 ай бұрын
An excellent point! A cable "fell" out of the Pioneer, couple hours trying to re-figure the thing out. Your excellent note got me to thinking. I am 70 and when I wanted to up-grade my 2 channel system couple cables and good to go. I never "had" to up-grade it was always if something quit (rare) or a new bit of technology and that was only a cd player. It is funny speaking for myself that something was good enough 30 years or so ago it still is. Or cannot be bested on my income. When this quits it will be a soundbar for me! After all if a cable comes loose from say the "phono" jack on the back of any stereo piece of equipment I sure always know where it goes to plug it back in! Wishing you a great New Year!@@overbuiltlimited

Looking forward to the face off between the Dragon and the Sonos + 4 ERAs. I suspect in 2024,, the Sonos Arc 2 will make that configuration happen in a truly integrated setup. The Dragon may represent the limits of the current soundbar form factor (soundbar + 2 surrounds.) I think customers are open to a more flexible arrangement between soundbar and discretes.

Thank you so much for this INSANELY detailed video. I very much appreciate the time & effort you've put into it, & how you haven't sugar-coated anything. I decided to pull the trigger & I purchased the Dragon yesterday. I found it on eBay at significant savings as an opened box item sold directly from Nakamichi USA (100% positive feedback). It still comes with a 1-year warranty & they described it as being in A- condition with only (possible) light cosmetic imperfections 🤞, & they did show many (example) photos of what cosmetic imperfections I may encounter; I seriously hope I don't encounter the damage like what you've experienced 🙏. For what I paid ($2,600), I'm more than willing to accept minor cosmetic imperfections, but if it arrives with anything more than that, & if they don't honor their clear & very detailed description, you better believe they will be hearing from me, plus, if need be, eBay's guarantee has always done right by me. I contemplated going the official true Atmos route with all the proper components but decided the ease of setting up the Dragon along with its many advanced optional tweaks was more appealing. Don't get me wrong, if I hadn't grabbed it at the price I did, I would have likely passed on it.

Outstanding review, I wanted to ask you how well do you think this Nakamichi Dragon would stack up against a similarly priced AV Receiver with some Klipsch towers, Klipsch center channel, and Klipsch surrounds with Atmos, and Klipsch Subs ?Before this Dragon came out I was thinking of building a home theatre system with an AV receiver and Klipsch or Polk Audio Speakers and spending between 4k and 5k.

I suspect there are some fireworks kind of things the dragon can deliver that perhaps Klipsch won’t - I’m not delusional enough to think a proper traditional setup with quality components wouldn’t be more satisfying and/or technically sound. I’m still trying to find my best sound - I’ll disclose more in future videos when my preference settles … on the recordings the crossover was 200Hz

that was a quality review. I liked the era 300 comments as I've just paired a couple of them with my Sonos arc. you mentioned in the video about the Apple TV 4K being the best way to stream music to your setup I currently use the s2 app for my Sonos setup, specifically Apple Music, and it seems to work ok so I'd be interested to know your thoughts on how an Apple TV could improve on that...

Sonos is a somewhat rare exception where music playback is built in a bit deeper than say Q990C. In general I’ve found the sound to be richer, more stable, and distributed more coherently via HDMI. And apples music playback is a more accessible high quality than say tidals. Something about the Apple Music with the Apple TV integration just sounds better
@mickdenley10 ай бұрын
@@neverenoughtech in that case you may have just convinced me to purchase another apple tv (my other one is about 10 years old) haha. I look forward to testing it out sound wise compared to streaming atmos content via the sonos app.

Being in Australia I’d love a dragon but opted for the 990c. I’ve enjoyed watching movies on it but feel underwhelmed when listening to music. Only early days and haven’t figured out best sound settings yet and prob not even warn in. Hopefully I’ll get a dragon one day and retire the 990c for a bedroom solution Thanks so much for the time and effort of the review. It’s an absolute ball tearer as per your usual high standards.

After getting 990c it became clear to me that it sucks at stereo music... Therefore I bought a tiny Fosi Audio V3 and gave my old Wharfedales a new life. For around 100 USD with 48V/5A power supply it runs circles around Samsung and my old Yamaha RX-V471 receiver, too... Paired with WiiM Mini - fantastic duo!
@michaelbray649910 ай бұрын
@@sebanow interesting. I had a set of wharfedales not that long ago but they were cheap modern speakers which in my honest opinion I under powered. Might hunt around for a good stereo pair for music. Decisions decisions
@sebanow10 ай бұрын
@@michaelbray6499 well, as far as the speakers go, they were just waiting to be scrapped/sold cheap, because here was hoping for the bar to deliver... As it came out, while being great for movies, dialogue, atmos content and effects, etc., when it comes to stereo it's just a glorified bluetooth speaker, sadly, no matter how you connect it whatever source. Since the idea was to get rid of the Yamaha brick, I went the mini D class route with V3 and old speakers.

Dolby atmos soundbars are intentionally crap at music since they are optimised for surround home theater audio...

So toward the end of this extremely thorough review you eluded (with pic) that you could build a Klipsch system for less. I was wondering if you could expand on that. I am looking to getting by first system and would like your thoughts and compare the Dragon to that pictured system. Thanks
@neverenoughtech9 ай бұрын
The cinema 1200 is a lesser system but quite strong for $800 - the spatial element is not as strong and the sound is not as detailed - it can get very intense - it’s not a system you build. It comes as a kit though you can add a second sub via sub out

Great content 👌 👏 Question, can you connect something to the dragon to make it part of a multi room system 🤔 maybe a sonos connect or heos 🤔 Keep up the great content 👏 👌
@neverenoughtech4 ай бұрын
You can add a Sonos connect but it would require you keeping it on line in source which is not super slick.

Thanks for all your effort and dedication. Would be rather interested to learn now that you own the dragon how it compares to your Sonos config with grouped ERA 300 also up front. I felt so disappointed with ARC with music when I switched from my stereo ERA300 pair so I am tempted to buy a 2nd ERA 300 set to enjoy spatial audio again but then try the configuration you highlighted with a group set working with my 7.1.4 configuration. A question I have with this, is how can I combine the sub to then work with both scenarios, or do I need two subs and each paired with a) stereo 300s and b) arc/era configuration?
@neverenoughtech10 ай бұрын
My setup was really meant more as a demonstration - or a hint of the kind of thing Sonos could do if they had a mind for it - it has a bunch of usability issues … yes if you wanted to just play music out of the front era 300s you would need to pair a single sub to it and the other to the traditional pairing (arc and 300s) - what you are attempting is an extra layer of bravery

Hello Your videos are truly fascinating. I wish you continued success. Samsung Q990C price is 24 thousand TL Dragon price is 120 thousand TL What do you think of Q990c vs Dragon based on the price above? I ask you, can you make a real VS as the general sound stage between Q990C and Dragon.

Great review, I’m wondering how it would do with stereo music from my personal iTunes library at 256 aac. Or can I even play them through the Dragon using my iPhone?

It can BT through your phone or connect via aux adapter
@HansAramburo9 ай бұрын
You can use Bluetooth but obvious it's not ideal because incoming calls will come through on your system. Best if you dedicate a spare phone or a tablet just for the Dragon.
