That is an awesome build. How are you going to get it to keep the power down so your not so loosey goosey at launch?
@superchargedfierogt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’m excited to get it done. With the Fiero being mid-engine, the engine is right over the rear wheels and the car is light so it hooks up pretty well. I need to take it to some better surfaces to get the best launches. I’m hoping to take it to the drag strip in the near future.

This is super nice and great sounding car! What transmission do you have in it? I’m starting a very similar build (:

What type of transmission did you use sounds and looks like it drives great...
@superchargedfierogt Жыл бұрын
The transmission is the 4-speed 4T65eHD transmission that came on the 3800sc engine. The car has been very quick, fun, and reliable.
@danielwilson6665 Жыл бұрын
@@superchargedfierogt… I have the same transmission in my 2002 GTP and with 250,000 miles it still performs quite well. I installed an external fluid cooler kit right after I bought the car new. It is a GM part like the ones factory installed on W-body vehicles ordered for police and other severe service applications. Installation was easy because all of the required bolt holes were pre-drilled at the factory. Along with the cooler I also changed over to Mobil-1 synthetic transmission fluid to deal with the extremes of stop and go traffic in Georgia summertime heat. I bought a ZZP PCM and finned transmission pan to improve the shifts and cooling capacity. All transmissions fail eventually, but regular maintenance using quality lubricant and filters is a good thing 🏁.

This is Stephen rush again what year and what kind of car did your 3800sc come out of I have a countach Lambo kit and I want to get my chassis and motor right before I install the body instead of finding another gt fiero to put on I have a 85 gt fiero with 19,000 original miles but you guessed it blown motor so I'm thinking maybe I should just remove motor and install 3800sc or do you think I should use another year model fiero just starting out so any info is helpful to me I thank you kindly for returning my comment I know what trans to use now thank you....

I absolutely recommend going with a 3800sc swap. The 3800 is one of the best engines GM ever made and it’s way more reliable then the 2.8 in the Fiero. You get many benefits from going with a newer engine with OBD2 support. My engine is a Supercharged 3.8L L67 engine from a 1998 Grand Prix GTP. It’s been upgraded with ZZP XP cam, 3800sc Series III lower intake and Eaton M90 Gen V supercharger, 3.4” pulley, Cadillac Northstar Throttle-body, and lots of other mods to add boost and horsepower. I’d go with either a Series II or Series III from a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The 3800sc Series 3 is the best and last version of the engine, but it’s drive by wire. I would get a series 3, but replace the DBW throttle body with a Cadillac Northstar Throttlebody that is cable driven, and use a 3800sc Series II computer. I would only rebuild the original 2.8L or upgrade to the 3.4L V6 if you had an all original Fiero, and you were trying to keep it stock and original. The 3800sc is what should have been in the Fiero GT! It transforms the car into something with real power. I have an LS4 5.3 V8, and that engine is way more sluggish and less powerful then my snappy 3.8L Supercharged Fiero. Here is a how-to on the 3800sc swap: www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/139530.html

Nice job so far ! I want to do one of mine. Any idea of ballpark cost for the engine total ?
@superchargedfierogt4 жыл бұрын
I bought the donor car with the 3800sc engine for $800, custom engine harness and Fiero swap tuned 3800sc PCM were $400... custom engine/trans mounts $500, custom fabricated stainless steel exhaust $1200, custom fuel system using PTFE AN6 $600, machine shop re-doing the heads $400, seals, paint, fluids, misc for rebuilding the engine, $800... I did almost all the work myself. Just getting the engine mostly rebuilt, and running, but using top quality parts and materials cost me $4,500. For mods, I added a ZZP/CompCam XP cam, ZZP full stack stage 2.5 intercooler, Northstar throttle body, custom 3.75” intake w/ 4” K&N air filter you are looking at $2000 more, so about $6500 just on my engine build. You can save money by going with lower cost parts and using very basic materials, but I wanted to avoid problems down the road.

@@superchargedfierogt…. You obviously did plenty of research into the engineering aspect and components required to complete the project with such impressive results. That list of quality parts is top notch as well. I just saw this post and it was done three years ago. I haven’t read everything yet so I’m not up to speed on the final details. How did it turn out ? The video was very impressive.

Why is the rear end getting so loose?
@CFoxtrot254 жыл бұрын
It might have something to do with the fact that the engine he swapped in produced just over 3 times the hp/tq then what the Fiero originally came with.... Idk, just a wild guess here. XD
@danielwilson6665 Жыл бұрын
It’s a common occurrence during hard acceleration when the engine produces more power than the tires traction capacity can handle. The resulting wheel spin and traction loss can cause the vehicle to get loose on the end where the driven wheels are located. My 2002 Grand Prix GTP has the 3800, L67 supercharged V-6 engine with ZZP upgrades. With the front wheel drive design, naturally the front end gets very loose when the tires are smoking. Obviously, putting the same basic power train like my GTP has including hardcore ZZP power upgrades into this lightweight, rear wheel drive, well engineered and beautifully modified Fiero would be a good reason for the rear to get very loose, even with part throttle response 🏁.
